[DISCUSSION] Homouality In K-pop/J-pop World

DISCLAIMER: I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO VOICE OUT MY OPINION AND SHARING MY POINT OF VIEW. THE RANT BELOW CONTAINS STRONG REFERENCE TO HOMOUALITY OF SOME IDOLS (K-POP & J-POP WORLD) AND IF YOU  ARE UNCOMFORTABLE PLEASE READ! YES, I WANT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO READ AND DISCUSS THIS BECAUSE SOME STUPIDITY GOING ON WITH SOME FANS HAS TO STOP!

I always wanted to talk about homouality and it's been in my head, bothering me like a little bee buzzing 24/7 for the last couple of months.

The aspect I wanna rant about is of course related to idols we adore and lose our minds over, as well as, some general point of views about the whole issue…

We all know, a homoual person is a person who is interested ually in another person from the same . Meaning, either a man wants to have and love another man, or a woman with another woman.

Now, lets move on a bit and see some fans' reactions and feelings towards their beloved idols. From faraway, you will always see comments such as;

" Ohh Jin, I love you and I'll always support . . ."

" Kame-chan, you are so cute, I love you and I'll always support you . . ."

"Eunhyuk oppa, I love Super Junior, you guys rock! Please come and visit xxx."

" Heechul oppa! Your sharp personality made me fall in love with you, please never change!"

" Taemin, Omo, you're too adorable! how can a cute boy like him exist?"

" Diva Key, you are so awesome! I love you so much!"

And now to some fans's comments if something bad happen and anti-fans left hurtful and stupid comments:

"Bakanishi, we love you no matter what! Stay strong and don't worry about haters, they r so not worth your time."

"Kame, you are always beautiful, we love you so please don't pay attention to haters!!"

"Super Junior, ' true ' ELFs love you, so stay strong, haters don't have lives so ignore them!!"

These comments and similar hundreds of thousands others are what we see in lots of communities' articles, forums, and videos in YouTube, or any other online portals.

Move on to the more debatable chunk where lots of fans fight within each other (not that I'm supporter of any fan wars or any kind of this stupidity), which is fan-service, or couples or whatever you wanna call it.

I'm gonna mention some common (for me at least) couples to make my points a bit clearer;

AkaKame or Akame : Akanishi Jin x Kamenashi Kazuya

Ryoda: Nishikido Ryo x Ueda Tatsuya

RyoPi:  Nishikido Ryo x Yamapi

Pin: Yamapi x Akanishi Jin

TomaPi: Ikuta Toma x Yamapi

EunHae: Eunhyuk x Donghae

KyuMin: Kyuhyun x Sungmin

HanChul: Hangeng x Heechul

2Min: Minho x Taemin

JongKey: Jonghyun x Key

Okay, the whole drive of " coupling " idols together is the idols themselves behaving in certain ways in public which leads fans to match them together, based on their interactions, PDA (public display of affection) on stage and during TV shows, their stories and how much the years of working together have rubbed on the bond they have created with each other.

Some fans, especially those from western side of the world, are more acceptable and knowledgeable of the word: gay. Gay couple, gay , they know people who are gay or they are gay or Bi, so when they see asian idols (J-pop and K-pop especially) they will assume the idols are gay or at least Bi, and most of the time they don't care.

On the other hands, korean fans, or asian fans in general, have a bit of homophobia going on, which what ticked me off and opened my eyes about lots of things.

The fact that you go around and leave comment over and over about "supporting" your idol, but when the topic homouality touches him, or her for that matter, you become someone else and all homophobic ery appears when I read some comments. It pisses me the off when I see how much hypocrisy going on with so called "fans".

When some fans make videos about their OTP (one true pair/ing) or favourite couple, some put in the description box stuff like:

THEY ARE NOT GAY! THIS IS JUST FOR FUN (the stupidest description ever)

and other fans would leave comments like:

"Awww, so cute!!! I love them together!"

"OMG!!! So hot!!! Thanks for sharing!!"

"Wow, they have so much chemistry together!! I wanna see more!!"

Now, if a fan left a comment such as;

"Waaa, they look lovely together, are they gay?"

If someone left such a comment, she/he will get all the stupid answers in the world, such as;

"NO, they are NOT gay" (dunno why they use caps as if the person wont read it right if they wrote it normally, and my question would be: how the hell did you know for sure?)

"They are NOT gay! They are both christians" (WTF??)

"This is just fan-service, it's very common in K-pop, google it and you will understand." ( WTF again?)

"They are just very touchy because it's very common in asian countries, no body is gay." ( Seriously? and you know this how? you lived with them and saw them ing women only?)

*shakes my head*

Now, some fans would reply:

"So what if they were gay?"

Others would reply:

"Ewww, don't come here and insult them, this is just a fan-service!! Don't be judgmental just because you don't know them!!" (what's the actual here??!!! How could you say some stupid like this? who is passing judgment here?? and insult?? seriously??? I swear to God, sometime I so want to jump from the screen and kick some sense in them)…

Mind you, these stupid comments are written by same usernames who at the beginning squealed and screamed at how cute and how lovely the couple are together!!!! I mean, are you Bipolar? or Schizophrenic with spilt personality disorder??

Tell me if it makes sense to "support" your couple then go crazy homophobic when someone write the word GAY!!!!

If you don't like the whole deal don't pretend to be a fan, don't lie through your teeth, don't go read or write fan-fiction with the couple having graphic with each other, don't ing defend them, because you are a hypocrite, a pathetic and a judgmental loser.

If you like them for their musicality and talent then listen to their musics, sing their songs and learn their dance steps, don't bother with their private life and where they stick their behind closed door, because bottom line here; it's none of your ing business!

No one is forcing you to go date some jerk, your parents wont force you to marry an who you hate, your friends wont drag you to a blind date when you don't want, then do the same and don't force the idol's ual orientation according to your own selfish needs and some stupid fantasy, because no matter how much you scream, no matter how many albums you buy, and how many concerts you attend, he will not marry you, he will not go out with you, and he will not be your friend. You will always be his fan and thats IT!!! So ing wake up and STOP being homophobic prick!

I'm gonna write some comments that I saw regarding Heechul(Super Junior) and Key (SHINee) on YouTube and asides from them not making any freaking sense, it showed the double faces fans use as a retarded way of supporting their idols:

"He loves to kiss s, he dresses like girl, put make up, and act girly, he is very close to his male friends and doesn't know how to treat girl well. BUT, he is so NOT gay! Heechul is as straight as every other man."

"Key is diva and act girly with his band mates, he cooks and is a mother-like in SHINee's dorm, but he is straight and likes girls!"

Okay, tell me how these comments are making any sense? Because for me it doesn't make any sense. Instead, they would support my belief, if I had one, about the guy's swinging direction.

First of all, how on earth you made that statement about every K-pop/J-pop idol is as straight as a pencil when you are some thousand miles away from him? Based on what? The country's culture? The media articles? Are you a psychology specialist? A body language expert? Who are you to state on their behalves about something so private?

I dare you to say if you ever agreed on something that you don't like without a fight, whether with your parents, with your friends, or even with your boss or teacher. I do know for sure that I'm a free person who has the right to choose the options and the way I wanna live my life, the meal I wanna have and the cloths I wanna wear and the guy I wanna love! You don't let people decide how you live your OWN life, then who are you to decide how someone's else has to live a certain lifestyle? Just so you wont be uncomfortable watching him/her perform or whatever? Well, if you think like that, then honey, YOU.

Secondly, people have different perceptions and they grew up in different cultures; some of them open, some of them close, some of them in between, so I understand why idols or a TV personality whose life is being watched by so many might be afraid to show his true colour, I don't  understand however, people who watch the said person have the nerve to suppress him/her even more because of some stupid idea that they have the right to tell an idol how to be a role model for everyone in the whole world, like the idol is the one who got pregnant and brought every teenager to the world, and teenagers have no parents to raise them. This is a bull set of mentality and it needs to change since century ago, we are in 2011 for God's sake.

Thirdly, people who act like God… Excuse me for saying this, but you are being a delusional to sentence someone to hell and another to heaven because you think you are right! Now, i'm not attacking any religion out there because believe it or not, I do follow a specific religion and I know what I'm talking about, but I'm also a human being and my parents told me God is there to judge people so it's not MY job to sit on my and say:

Oh, shame on you, you are gay, you're so going to hell!

Oh, you women, I think you are safe!

You have so much infidelity so bye bye to you…

I don't do that, because even if my parents didn't teach me that, I have a brain with over billion active cells which, if I let it function, will tell me I am a mere person just like the other six billions on this planet earth and I better focus on making myself a better and useful person to this world, instead of passing empty, baseless judgment just because I can!

Fourthly, people are entitled to their own opinion, and no, i'm not with people who go around articles and videos and make some boring insults just because they are pathetic and have no life, BUT you can't in return insult a person because he/she think a certain idol might be gay, because A) we are not stupid people, we can identify attraction between two people when we see it, and we know the meaning of the word attraction between people of same gender, and B) it's not our fault when idols exaggerate their so called fan-service and they get caught even when they are not on a stage. So, calm the down and let people voice out what they think, they didn't say they hate the idols nor they insulted them out of the blue, in fact, you would be the one being an for erasing the possibility of your precious angel being gay… BIG DEAL!!

The whole issue gives me the creep because I think it's childish and annoying and so useless! So what if an idol decide to go on an interview and come out, you will what? Die? Hate him for real? Next time he go on stage you gonna throw something on him and hurt him? Because let me tell you this, lots of celebrities who decided to come out, especially in Hollywood and here in UK, have the same fans still, and fans who turned their back on them they got replaced by other fans, so seriously, your opinion at the end of the day DOESN'T matter, because we are not talking about a celeb changing his taste in music from hip-hop to jazz or classic to rock and metal, or from acting in drama to action movies, we are talking about personal choices in their private lives that should absolutely NOT concern us and would NOT affect our lives!!

You know what happen when, for argument sake, an idol decided to do something like this and you or any brainless fan leave hateful comments one after another? In western world, especially America, they wont give a because the public and celebrities alike know very well they have the freedom of speech as well as freedom of choice, both parties might exaggerate in their actions but at the end everyone does what he/she fully wants! But in K-pop/J-pop, these things leave idols with mental breakdown, never coming out, attempting suicide and , so you are not just a hateful , but also partially responsible for someone's ending his own life! What a splendid job, now you should be proud.

Last thing I wanna say about this, is this is a very personal point of view and I don't mind hearing other views on this so share what you think because I think recently fans have lost their damn minds thinking they can control their idols' lives, and not only about this, but also for idols not dating and having a relationship… I mean people date from high school if not earlier and some idols are reaching their 30s and they don't date because of fans… Does this make sense to you at ALL??

Thank you for this. What really bothers me, is that [a lot] of k-pop fans are being real hypocrites. They say they "ship" a pairing, because they find it cute and "HOT," say "Omg! They are so real!", even when in reality, they admit themselves to only ship them because they would LIKE for them to be real. But when it comes down to people saying, without malice, that they think that some of them are G/B/L, then for some reason, they get really crazy. Yet they're the ones saying they find it hot. You can't be half-open minded; and actually, it just shows how selfish some fans are, only viewing their idols the way they would LIKE them to be. And I must admit, that I can say this from a neutral point of view since I've already been like that when I was 15-16. Now I'm almost 18 now, [it seems short], but I've matured. I've also seen my fair share of K-Pop, skinship and fanservice to be able to differentiate things. Also, no matter the culture, humans stay humans. Idols aren't robots; they're humans too. And humans can be gay. Saying that NO IDOL is G/B/L is just being an obstinate fangirl, and to me, really ignorant and stupid.

I'm not an expert, but I know body language enough to be 100% sure that the whole YunJae thing was real. Yes, as in I think Jaejoong is bi, while Yunho is gay, and they were really secretly dating. And from my observations, they starting "dating" somewhere in early-mid 2006. I've been a fangirl before, and when I first saw them (especially their couple talk) I thought they looked pretty fishy. But back then, I thought "Ha! I knew they weren't real! Look at how awkward and nervous they are!" (Off-topic, but a LOT of what some shippers call "evidences" actually came from before they started dating) And I kept denying because of course, I was dreaming about marrying Jae one day. <---yes I was like that.
To be honest, I don't care what other people might think of this, but close-minded people DO piss me off.
Oh, and I'm bi. :)

So all in all, I agree that this homophobia and insanity needs to stop...let them be themselves and support them because you think that they are talented and deserve to continue making music...granted, I am an American and my culture is more open about homouality than Asian cultures(from what I gather...never actually been to Asia) but we are all people after all..<br />
<br />
P.S. I love your pics >..< because yes, whether they are gay or not I still ship Hanchul and Eunhae...if they are real, awesome...if they aren't, awesome still because it is entertaining to watch them mess with each other and well, Heechul looks hot in a mask almost kissing Hangeng and Donghae looks hot on his knees for Hyukkie :)<br />
Sorry I took up two comments, I had a lot to say on this too….<br />

So I really, really, really agree with you on this last part here...about how fans try to control their idols lives...I EXTREMELY hate the no dating policy because it makes our idols seem inhuman almost...and ya know what? If Eunhyuk(my bias) wants to date a girl...good for him, I'd be glad to see him happy. If he wants to be with Donghae, again...good for him. I ship Eunhae majorly because well, I am a fan girl and I do love the fan service but unlike some ELF I get the fact that they are people too and while Eunhae makes great fan fiction and it is fun to watch them mess around on stage I kind of want them to be happy and have girl friends(or boy friends)too. This whole debacle really makes me think about Adam Lambert and how, while he was in American Idol he didn't publicly announce that he was gay(even though most people asumed). After the show when he came out 'officially' his fans still supported him, myself included. Whether he is gay or not his voice still sends shivers down my spine and I find him attractive. Same goes with every K-pop Idol I follow...I will love and adore them whether they are straight, gay, bi or whatever...<br />
<br />
Also, those fans that claim their biases are 'theirs' and plan on kidnapping them or the whole 'I am going to marry him' thing...they are crazy! I will fess up to wanting to kidnap them, but it was more of just a joke and all in good fun...sometimes it is OK to fantasize, but there are people who take it way too far! and I honestly think that some people are serious...I mean, really? they are people too! I would be honored to see a Super Show and maybe get to meet them and get a hug...that would make me so unbelievably happy! I worry that there are people out there that call themselves 'fans' but that would never be enough and they really would hurt them to try and get their attention. <br />

True fans would NEVER EVER stray away.<br />
Because in my point, lets just pretend this situation is real:<br />
News Report: Groups of K-Pop Idols have been Confirmed Gay.<br />
Yeah so what? I bet those thousands of 'fans' would freak out and stop liking them. If not that then they would go on a homophobic streak... er.. well like go crazy and be like:<br />
"THEIR GAY?! OMFFFFGGGSOIHSODIHAKNCE!!!!!!"<br />
Etc.<br />
If it were me I'd accept it. The reason why I admire the idol is because of their talent and skill. THIS is why they worked so hard to BECOME an idol. To show the world thats who they are and want to be. If people or 'fans' are going to change because of whats on the outside.. well I'd say this to them..<br />
" OFF AND DIE"<br />
That's my pov for ya... *dramatic music plays*... lol... :DDDD<br />
I'd really like to see more of these rants or whatever you call them from you... its really interestiong... :D.<br />

Ive read the whole thing and here's my point of view:<br />
People or aka 'fans' only see the outside part of the idol. They dont know any inside information unless your friends or family with the idol. Im not critizizing you okay? But, people tend to put together things from what they see because have you heard of the saying<br />
"Seeing is believing"?<br />
That applies to this case. Fans never ever get to live with their idol thats why they are fans. Because of that they start 'seeing' and then 'beliving'<br />
Its like a game of chinese whispers.<br />
"They are not gay" from the start becomes<br />
"They are engaged" at the other end.<br />
Also I agree with you, no one is God. There are, actually, 7 billion people on earth as of this year.<br />
You cant decide whether someone goes to hell or not because their gay or not. Its impossible to decide unless well your God yourself.<br />
AND. I agree how some fans INSTANTLY change face as SOON as someone says the word 'gay'. Its a pain. The reason why your a fan is supposed to mean you'll follow your idol forever, through the good and the bad.<br />
Even when Jonghyun dated Sekyung I was still them. I kept following SHINee.<br />
Even when Hankyung left Super Junior. I was still with them. I kept following Super Junior.<br />
Hm I think Im gonna need a second paragraph and another comment.. lol...
