Ah, I kind of know how you feel. Every time a guy has asked me out, he was one of my friends, but not a super close friend. So it was a bit awkward for some time, but that was a while ago, so it's all good.
Every time I had to reject one of my friends I felt really bad too. Even if I did like them back, I probably wouldn't go out with them because I want to take my time, I'm still a bit young, and I don't think I'm capable either. But maybe later, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Maybe just give him some time to think about it. It wouldn't hurt for you to think about it either ^^

Been there, done that. But the guy was just a close friend, not a real bff. It was awkward after that, but now everything's back to normal. :)
