U-Kiss 0330 Album explained

110331 Bran New Kiss: Mystery Solved! (ukissme.se article)

With the new album release, there has been extensive debate going on about some of the meanings of the terms used in the songs. Here is our take on them!

#01: ‘Don’t deny our r²π’ in 0330

Everybody should have figured out that r²π is the mathematical formula to calculate the area of a circle. After some quick searches on Google, this is what I got.

In ancient Egypt, the circle was considered as a symbol of eternity, because it has no beginning and no end. So when the circle is used in the context of love, it represents eternal love.

Hence, this line should mean? Don’t deny our eternal love.

Alternatively!

The circle is used to replace <3 to represent love. You see, in <3, there is a gap between < and 3 whereas in a O, there is no gap. The love is complete in a sense and not broken. I r²π U-Kiss!

#02: ‘I can’t give you up so please be my Wendy’ in 내게 아픈 말은 (Words that hurt me)

WHO IS WENDY?

Eli’s secret lover? I don’t think so! Our take on this is that it is a Peter Pan reference.

Translating the lyrics of the rap:

How do people’s hearts change so easily?

I still have a lot to show you so how can we end?

The ring on your fourth finger represents forever.

I can’t give you up so please be my Wendy

To be honest my rusty old brain cannot remember the story line of Peter Pan. I did some snooping around on the net and I think basically Peter Pan loved Wendy. At the end of the book ‘Peter and Wendy’, the author writes that Wendy asked Peter if he would like to go and talk to her parents about ‘something sweet’ - hinting at marriage! And we all know that the ring on the fourth finger is the wedding band!

You can read about Peter and Wendy at the wiki page: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_and_

Wendy)

#03: The title - 0330

According to the boys on Twitter, 0330 implies that the song is best when listened to at 3:30am (Has anyone tried this?) We also know it stands for 30th of March which is the date of release of the album. Random thought though, I wonder if the song was originally 0303 since they were supposed to make a comeback early March, before it was postponed… Hmm…

Another take on 0330;

We’ll take the explanation of the circle for 0 - it can work too. Eternal love!

3? The number 3 represents wholeness, holiness (like the Holy Trinity), and the Pythagorean three means completion.

So there, 0330 - eternal, whole, complete love!

Or, looking at it another way.

Flip the first 3 to get 080. 8 symbolizes new beginnings. A new beginning for the group? 0 symbolizes eternity, a horizontal 8 gives you infinity - Eternity? Eternal love, like r²π? The lyrics don’t mention 0330 at all r²π may be the only link between song and title? Then again some songs don’t relate to the title, right? They probably have mentioned their titles too often in their past songs. (The titles have been in the chorus for each song! Not Young, I Like You, Talk to Me, Man Man Ha Ni, Bingeul Bingeul, Shut Up, Mworago…)

On another note. How do you read 0330? In my mind I call it zero-three-three-zero (공삼삼공 - gong sam sam gong in Korean) and in real life I call it ‘The Song’. I’m really curious and cannot wait for the boys to actually say the title.

#04: Why is Bran not a spelling error?

LIGHTBULB!MOMENT! (Thank you Rusee!)

Bran-new is a legit word in the dictionary. GASPS. Yes, it is!

The adjective BRAN-NEW has 1 sense:

1. conspicuously new

So okay, bran-new is no longer a spelling error. But I still wanted to know why it is not a spelling error. Turning to my best friend, Google (who insists on correcting it to branD new)

First off, it may be a linguistic reason. Bran-new is a simplification. Quoting the article I just read,

The consonant cluster that arises from bringing brand together with new, /ndn/, is prone to “simplification,” as phoneticians say. Even in careful speech, the /d/ sound is likely to be reduced if not elided entirely.

Say whaaaaaat? Basically, say ‘Brand New’ out loud - do you actually enunciate the letter d? No? There you go. It’s the same reason why Iced Cream is Ice Cream and Popped Corn is Popcorn.

BUT! There is yet another meaning behind using bran… And this is finally the bran we’ve all been laughing about.

The term ‘brand new’ or ‘bran new’ was when new items were packaged up with unwanted bran grain in the 18th Century to protect the object during transit. When the item was unpacked, the owner would often find traces of bran in the item. Hence the term.

Hands up if you learnt something new tonight :O (Said article: http://www.visualthesaurus.com/cm/wordroutes/1626/)

By the way, for the 2 songs mentioned, AJ wrote the lyrics for 0330 & co-wrote the lyrics for ‘Words that hurt me’ with Dongho. New found respect for AJ!

So what do you think? Do you have other interesting interpretations? Are there any other terms used that you are curious about?

haha thought some people might need that cleared up~

@KissMe yeah the first time I saw that MV that's what I was thinking was going on. Either that the girl left or she died, and Dongho was either delusional or in denial...and finally U-Kis was sick of it so they interveined!
The only thing Id say differently is that 0330 (still 03:30 am) represents their sleeplessness. It even says in the lyrics that they are unable to sleep at night so that's what I think they are referring to. ^^

The main character (Dongho) is pretending that his girlfriend is still alive when she died at "0330" (military time for 3:30am.) He doesn't want to accept that she's dead so he goes along with life doing everything he did with her pretending she is still with him when he knows she is dead. His friends help him along the way, them knowing it's hard for him, but they don't want to see him suffer like that.
The MV kinda show this... Don't you think???
@VictoriaDm lol, haha I think Hoon helped write it too :P I have to say, him and AJ are fitting in nicely~ haha to be honest, who cares if it doesn't make complete sense, it's U-Kiss, does it really have to? Besides, they made math class more interesting for me~ every time I hear r2pi, I start singing that now :P

@susanyeunkim In all honesty, I couldnt agree more~ sometimes I think they should just keep simple things simple, but I won't lie, in this case, I kinda love it~ I dunno, it just sort of...fits.
Haha yeah I knew the Wendy thing right away Coz I'm a Peter Pan fan xD
lol love this song too! So beautiful~
