TRAINEE BACKGROUND as hybe's first new, not acquired, taiwanese/chinese trainee, pei was put under a much closer eye than some of the other girls. they had accepted her into the company as a way to test the waters with the chinese market, sure she was talented, but was she going to be more trouble than she was worth?
Idol Background
pei's time as an idol during the original timeline was not at all what she hoped it would be. being shoved into the background , and a lot of times she didn't get to participate unless it was a big event because source would claim she had "health issues" and pull her out. source seemed to take her being in the background literally, all her photos in the new albums were at the end, she was shoved to the back or edge of every single dance formation they had post debut, and they even gave her clothes that blended into whatever set they were shooting on. dejaboo was more of a 4 member group during that year and half than it ever was a 5 or even 6 member group.
she felt mostly like a trainee all over again, spending most of her days in the practice rooms trying to build up her skills to a degree that would make someone, anyone, have to notice her, but with no opportunities to truly showcase these skills, she felt like it all went to waste. while she did appreciate the fans she did have, she mostly felt bitter towards the people that ignored her the same way the company did. that bitter spirit turned towards the other members, eventually to the point that any semblence of relationship she had with them at the beginning of their time as dejaboo had been destroyed.

while originally source music was going to push her as a potential main dancer and highlight her talents, once they found out about her family's political affiliations and their active stance against one china it was game over for pei. the company didn't find out until the day their debut music video dropped, her uncle, the politician, posting a photo of her profile image and a picture of them together to congratulate her debut, though really it was just to boost his social media engagement. he took it down an hour later after an angry call from pei's mother, but the damage had already been done. though source music could've had her apologize or kicked her out entirely, they didn't want to dip their foot into the world of politics by opening that can of worms, especially when korean netizens had supported tzuyu from twice during her "scandal" and they couldn't afford to lose their main audience. thankfully xenia's scandal was bigger and outshined any backlash that was coming pei's way, so instead source decided on keeping pei in dejaboo, but in the background. they never ended up addressing the "scandal", just kept silent until eventually everyone forgot about it, and even pei herself. after all, she couldn't re-ignite the controversy if she was limited to one-word answers in her interviews. it didn't help that when you searched her stage name in korean, fei from miss a came up.

Her Plan
in the new timeline pei immediately scrubs all traces of her past. in the old timeline her uncle's post was the only time she had ever been associated with him publicly, but in this new timeline she refuses to let him be associated with her at all. she edits her profile before it goes out, in this timeline her birthname reads chu peijing (朱佩淨), her mother's surname, to avoid any accidental association with the tsao family. she gives source music some lame excuse about the surname having a bad rep in china and that it'd be bad for business and for whatever reason they buy it. so she changes her birth certificate, passport, high school diploma, anything left with that name on it other than medical records, thank god for hippa, so there would be no trace of her being referred to as tsao peijing. she calls her uncle, threatening him that she will release an incriminating photo of him cheating on his wife, (though she doesn't really have one, everyone just knows he's a sleazeball and his taste in women), if he were to associate himself with her. he promises to vehemently deny that they're related if asked, and thus pei feels secure that nothing will ever come out about it.
her game plan is to keep to the shadows in terms of her family and background, stating that she wants to protect their privacy by not revealing too much about them and giving vague details when she does. she wants the same amount of schedules, if not more, than the other girls. they had their turn during the last loop, now it was her time to shine. her backup plan? throw xenia under the bus to distract from herself. it worked the last time, so who says it can't work again?
