levi tak comes across as someone who doesn't need help. he's used to doing things for himself and for others rather than relying on anyone else; he doesn't need anyone to guide him in the right direction or tell him what to do. if there's not a clearly marked path, levi makes one for himself. he takes on and takes care of his own problems and takes responsibility for his own behaviors; self-sufficient to the core, levi personally would call it his best quality. 

 

when someone else needs help, however, levi would absolutely be front and center; he's there for everyone, no matter what the issue (or lackthereof) is. responsible and with the tendency to take care of things on his own and as quickly as problems arise, he's someone it's easy to put one's faith and trust in. he takes care of his team and he does his best to be a good leader for them, making sure they get where they need to be and do what they need to do... and also that they're being taken care of and not mistreated. 

 

always looking after the people around him, levi's caring nature comes to him as easily as breathing. be it in the little things or the big things, he's prone to focusing on the health and wellbeing of the other members; he's always the first to notice when something's wrong and try to do something to fix it. he does whatever he can for the rest of kng, be it cooking for them when they're sick or taking the fall for something one of them did. he never acknowledges his own selflessness and will look at someone as though they've grown a second head if they mention it, but he will always put the rest of his group and his family first. 

 

despite being as prone to talking about his own feelings as a brick wall, levi is a very warm and outgoing person, striving to make others feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved. he's not cold by any means, and he's someone it's easy to be around; he's only strict and puts his foot down when he has to. he'd much rather keep peaceful, smooth relationships with everyone than create a conflict. levi just wants to keep their team running, and will mediate any conflicts as they arise—as the leader he views anything that happens within the group as his responsibility, and therefore making sure any potential tensions are diffused before they can explode is also his responsibility. 

 

levi is one of those people who is prone to feeling things to his core—as a result, it's no surprise to find him tearing up over something, be it a song or a movie or something touching that one of the members of kng said. it becomes something of a running joke among kng and their fans alike, teasing levi about his tendency to cry and have emotions but for the most part it's affectionate teasing. 

 

on the flipside of his crybaby antics, levi is one of those people who tries to lighten the mood, most frequently with his dad jokes and puns that get him shoved off of the couch or out of his chair and bullied by other members of kng for his bad humor. 

 

just as he's used to doing things for himself, he's maybe a little too used to it; levi's a stubborn soul through and through and when he does put his foot down it's impossible to make him budge. he's the type to not back down under pressure even if it might be for the best. 

 

you'd never think it by looking at him or listening to him talk, but levi's extremely low on the self-confidence. he doesn't have a lot of faith in himself or his own abilities, and frequently struggles with feelings of self-doubt and worries of dragging down and holding back the other members of kng. he's very good at hiding this, internalizing it with the rest of his struggles, but it is a running theme—is he even good enough as a dancer? do they need him when they have kino and yunseong? is he even good enough as a leader or a person to be a member of kng? it's a constant, niggling thought in the back of his mind that he isn't good enough and it's one of the reasons he works himself so hard. 

 

when it comes to his own negative emotions and feelings, lack of self worth and the burdens he carries on his shoulders, levi tak is very good at burying them and keeping them away from scrutiny; he's a master at diverting the topic away from himself when he's upset or somehow emotionally compromised, and he hates to show perceived weakness to the other members of kng because he's supposed to be their leader and therefore the member responsible for them and someone they can lean on, not someone they have to worry about. 

 

just another thing in a long list of things levi is good at hiding: how easy it is for him to be stressed and overwhelmed. with the amount of weight he already carries, little things can chip away easily at levi until he's stressing out about everything: if kng will make it to practice or a performance ontime, if things will go well, if he remembered to turn the stove off, if he did everything he was supposed to do. he has extremely high standards for himself and expects that he'll always adhere to them and if he doesn't, he's frazzled about it. 

 

there's never a guarantee of how levi will react to something or what he's going to do next; if he's anything, he's unpredictable. sometimes, he worries that kng walk on eggshells around him because they expect him to snap, and sometimes he does snap, though that's usually after his patience has been worn very, very thin by the chaos and his stress and the burdens he carries. sometimes he does things that seem out of left field, sometimes he says strange things, but he's never easy to read or guess.

TAK FAMILY. mother, father, grandparents. 

 

levi has a good relationship with the adults in his family. his parents don't understand his choice or desire to become an idol but they support him. they're supportive to the point that levi feels the need to apologize to his mother before every y performance he does. his parents are kinda scandalized by some of the things they've seen him do on bighit's channel but he tries to warn them beforehand.

 

levi's grandparents are proud of him but his grandmother nags at him to stop being a and be a gentleman. but she plays kng's music in her restaurant, specifically their more fresh and elegant songs, and she has levi's picture hanging on the wall. one day she'll wrangle all of kng into her restaurant for a picture and to feed them because they're too skinny.

 

LINCOLN TAK. lincoln, the middle child in the tak family, has seen it all and (along with lynzie) is one of his biggest supporters. lincoln is the type to text levi "wtf is wrong with u bro" after seeing yet another compilation of his brother crying on youtube. he acts like levi embarrasses him, but lincoln bumps kng's music in his car and has a copy of every album released. can and will expose levi for being a dweeb to kng, but would throw hands if he thought any of them were being out of line to his big brother. 

 

LYNZIE TAK. lynzie, being the youngest baby in a family consisting of two boys and one girl, has grown up both pampered by their parents and ornery as hell. levi and lincoln had a tendency to put her in headlocks and give her noogies, as big brothers should, and now she's a holy terror. lynzie will take any chance she gets to big brothers, especially levi because he's the soft one in the family, and she enjoys terrorizing him whenever he comes home or she's visiting their korean grandparents and happens to encounter him. she likes kng, but she might be a bit jealous that they get to see her brother all the time and she's only gotten to see a few times since he left when she was eight. 

 

KNG. levi's members and favorite boys, of course.

TAE is the other braincell in the group and the person who has to control kng when levi is incapacitated, be it by how gay he is or because someone broke his nose again. 

JUNGTAE is one of the more mild members sometimes, but never when yunseong is involved. the two are worse than tom and jerry and leave levi finding new grey hairs every time he turns around. 

KINO is levi's son, hands down, no questions asked, levi raised him and would fight anybody for him. if anyone in kng is most whipped for kino and his whims it's definitely levi, who can rarely bring himself to say no to kino unless it involves the coffee pot or levi's feelings for a certain loudmouthed vocalist. 

DURING BIGHITBOYS...

⤷ one. was theorized to be a redebuting idol, hence why he was so careful to hide his identity.

⤷ two. was suspected of being the main dancer from fairly early on in their predebut era, because his content was mostly centered around dancing. 

⤷ three. was speculated to be multiple different people, each idea more and more ridiculous than the last. 

⤷ four. nicknamed the pink one by fans because he wore pink in every predebut video he was in, even if it was just a wristband. if there was pink, it meant it was levi.  

⤷ five. was discussed a lot for bighit seeming to give him the least content out of the kng project trainees, which lead to discourse about whether or not he was actually capable of anything other than dance and bighit was just covering low talent areas by only posting dance content.

TRAINING BACKGROUND. levi tak started his training journey at cube entertainment in 2012, and that in itself was a show. levi doesn't talk about what happened while he was a cube trainee, and rina is honestly far too lazy to bother writing about it, but the only highlights were meeting seungyeon and some of the members of pentagon, who levi has something of a friendly relationship with (not nearly enough to call them friends until after they meet as peers). he was cut by cube in evaluations in 2015, and then he went on to be scouted by bighit. 

 

it was a nicer atmosphere, training under bighit. levi became someone the other kng trainees could lean on, helping them even though they were competition. he'd work with the trainees who were weaker in the dancing field, and encourage any of his peers who were discouraged by trainers' criticisms or by the skills of others around them. when he was placed in a project group, he did his best to make that project group thrive; if one of them went down, the rest of them were going to go down with him, after all. if anything, this served to be what drew bighit's eye to him as a potential leader for their next boy group; his willingness to lead a team to victory, rather than allowing any of his teammates to taste defeat. 

 

PREDEBUT EXPERIENCE. levi was, of course, part of the kng project before the group made their official debut. he was best known for his dancing (of course) and for how little attention bighit actually seemed to be giving him lol. there was some suspicion that he was a filler member or a last minute addition despite actually being the glue of the group.

there's a brief pause, levi shifting on the stool he's perched on the edge of. "hi y'all," he starts, his eyes flitting over to the right, where out of frame, the other members of kng are lurking. "i'm levi tak." 

 

behind the camera, kng's manager hyesung gestures for him to continue.

 

levi stares at him like a deer caught in headlights, like he doesn't quite know what hyesung wants from him. kng's manager looks exhausted, after wrangling all of the other members for their own interviews, and doesn't pursue the matter. 

 

AS A MEMBER OF KNG, HOW DO YOU FEEL?

 

"excited," replies levi, without a pause. "and nervous. but i think that's normal, isn't it? there's a high standard for us to live up to." 

 

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?

 

"my role?" levi's eyelids flutter as he smiles, pained. "the leader and main dancer. and, if you ask the other members—" 

 

"mom!" kino cheers from off camera. the lens pans to the culprit, then back to levi as the leader slumps down a little in his chair and covers his face with one hand. 

 

"mom," levi finishes miserably, half-muffled into his palm. 

 

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TRAINING?

 

"for, uh..." levi counts on his fingers, eyes focused upward as his lips move, whispering to himself as he counts. "seven years," he concludes.  

 

WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNG'S MEMBERS LIKE?

 

"we're like family. complete with the, ah, um." levi waves his hand to the rest of the members, who are doing #kngthings while their leader tries to finish his interview. "whatever that is. i'm not sure. i'm honestly terrified to be here half the time, one of these days they're going to burn the dorm." 

 

hyesung looks pained. 

 

WHAT IS YOUR CHARM POINT?

 

for a moment, levi blankly stares at the camera. then hyesung repeats the question and he shrugs. "my abs."

 

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM THE OTHER MEMBERS OF KNG?

 

drily, levi replies, "braincells and common sense. none of them have any... tae-hyung does, actually, but he lacks patience to make up for it." there's some whining and cackling from the other four, but levi ignores it as he shrugs. "and i guess... my dance style, too. but mostly the braincells."

 

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL TALENTS?

 

"i can play guitar, fiddle, and violin. they ain't the same thing. and i can put my foot behind my head. don't know if that counts, but it's a thing i can do." 

 

WHY IS YOUR STAGENAME LEVI?

 

"the company wanted me to use remington," levi replies, "but levi rolls off the tongue better. it's part of my name, still, so... levi."

"everything?" levi replies. he looks puzzled. "i mean... we're a group for a reason?"

there's a sparkle in levi's eyes. "anything?" he asks. when the manager nods, he grins, throwing his arms in the air. "attend a country music festival! or a carrie underwood concert. honestly i'd be over the moon for either."

LOVE STORY. levi and yunseong first meet at bighit as fellow trainees. as trainees close to the same age and in the same projects, it was easy for levi to grow closer to yunseong as a friend. and that's how things started. they were friends, picking on each other in and out of practice, finding themselves in the same predebut project and preparing for their debut as a group that would be known as kng. 

 

levi's good at keeping the lines between friendship and feelings drawn until he isn't. somewhere in the haze of practice rooms and yunseong's loud mouth running a mile a minute and throwing plenty of flirtatious jokes his way, the lines get blurred. it's a recipe for disaster, the way he ignores the fluttering in his chest and butterflies in his stomach in favor of playing things off as jokes between friends, like they always have. even when they're standing together, getting ready to step onto their debut stage with the boys they've trained with. 

 

yunseong set a precedent that he was a flirt by nature and levi leans into that in order to ignore his own feelings. he can hide them since there's no chance of reciproacation; arms wrapped around yunseong's shoulders are just fanservice, even if he doesn't let go when the camera's off. hands held are just from a need for touch, even if he doesn't reach for tae or jungtae in the same way. 

 

flirting turns into pet names and pet names leave levi winded but not daring to question it. it's for the fans, he tells himself, even when there's not a camera or a microphone in the vicinity. 

 

maybe he's greedy, selfish in the way he takes everything yunseong gives him without a word. maybe he's cruel to himself when he brings yunseong into his personal space, warmth as familiar as it is bittersweet. maybe it's setting himself up for disaster when he lets yunseong drag him to bed to keep him from staying up until the odd hours of the morning, listening to the rise and fall of his breathing.

he's not ready for it when it snaps, like a thread pulled too taut. he's not ready for the distance, the quiet, the cold. he's not ready for it when it really is just for the fans, and everything he'd quietly taken for granted is gone.
