- she likes to wear silver jewelry, especially dangly earrings and fine-chain bracelets, and doesn't really like to wear necklaces. in particular, she can't stand chokers. though she has perfect vision, she also likes to wear cosmetic glasses because she thinks they're cute.
- as for shoes, she prefers sneakers and flats. she has a particular liking for combat boots and converse/vans. she dislikes wearing heels and sandals, mostly because she can't walk in tall heels and she doesn't feel comfortable exposing her feet to the many weird people out there.

nanako is sort of unassuming. she's pretty, but not to the point of turning heads, and she's quiet, rarely speaking to others because of shyness and because she's not confident speaking korean. as you may have guessed, she's pretty shy and usually has a poker face, which makes other people think that she's cold or mean, but in reality, she's really lonely because she doesn't have many friends in korea, though she's always willing to make new ones, as long as other people want to be friends. she does, however, greet the friends that she has very cheerfully and tries her best to get along with them despite not having grown up in korea and not understanding the culture very well.
she can also be pretty stubborn and stuck in her own mind or mindset, not easily changing her mind once it's set, but she's a loyal friend and cares a lot about her friends and family. if her friends tell her something that goes against her beliefs, she'll consider it very seriously and may change her mind without much convincing, just because it was her friend who said it. she's also very emotional, which makes her prone to anger, but though she's quick to anger, she's just as quick to forgive. she has a fairly good memory and will remember details that her friends tell her, like their coffee orders or their allergies. she's also a good active listener and is willing to spend money/time in order to help others.
in addition, she's quite smart, being able to keep up with training despite not speaking korean as fluently as the other trainees. part of it's because she genuinely just gets stuff, but the majority of it's because she works hard. because she's a foreigner, it takes her ten times more effort to learn stuff than it takes everyone else, and she's willing to do it. however, because she works so hard training, she tends to neglect living her life and often sinks into bouts of self-doubt and self-loathing where she doesn't think she's good enough. she also has a tendency to self-destruct and be like 'well this is already bad enough so i might as well make it worse'.

nanako was born in tokyo. however, her father was a businessman who mostly worked in china, so when she was five, her entire family moved to beijing, china, where her father had set up a medical supplies company. because her family was foreign, she went to school at the foreign school of beijing. her mother loved to sing and would always sing traditional japanese songs to her, but nanako preferred the current, trendy music like jay chou or cyndi wang.
when nanako was about 10, she started to pay more attention to jpop and became interested in the group hey say jump. her dad then dropped the bomb that one of the members, okamoto keito, was actually her cousin. nanako was super excited to learn that, and on a family vacation back to japan, her dad introduced the cousins, and keito taught her some simple dance moves. from that moment on, nanako knew that she wanted to be a popstar.
her parents were pretty okay with her plan, since they wanted their child to be happy, so they enrolled her in voice and dance lessons and supported her in various competitions. before she was 14, nanako was already fairly well-known in the area she lived in, as she became somewhat of a local celebrity who would perform at any free event that needed entertainers. of course, she did get teased for it at school sometimes, but she also had a lot of friends who supported her. then, when nanako was 17, she had the chance to audition for sm in a global audition. although she didn't make it through to the end, she found out about arthouse media and decided to try her chances there.

nanako and keito don't really have many interactions beyond the normal family reunions, but she's always looked up to him as a role model. when he heard she was going to korea to be a trainee, he gave her a lot of advice from his own experiences. they haven't seen each other in quite a number of years.

being both from china and around the same age, nanako and yiren became close friends during their trainee days. even though they're from different companies, they hung out and got food a lot, and even though sometimes nanako gets annoyed with yiren, they remained best friends after both of them debuted.

they became friends after debut. although elysium are the sunbaes, nanako was afraid to approach giselle because of aespa's immense popularity. however, they quickly became friends and text each other often (after they both gets phones). nanako often finds giselle too brash and rude, but she values her as a close friend.

nanako first auditioned for sm entertainment but didn't make it through. when she then joined arthouse media, she was a little thrown off by their preferred music style, since it wasn't what she was expecting. but she soon grew to appreciate the company and everything they did for her, especially training. she grew as a vocalist and dancer and even learned how to rap and act, though she's not good at either of those. she also became friends with the other trainees and artists under arthouse media and even met trainees from other companies.
