Thoughts about the omegaverse

In the comments to the copy of "TWICE as many alphas" posted at AO3, one of the readers commented that they were upset at the raw deal Jeongyeon had gotten (she[beta] was dating Momo[omega], but then Momo bonded with Itzy Lia[alpha] and and basically dropped her. Jihyo[alpha] tried to talk to her about it, but was unable to really see the beta point of view here). I left them a response, and in the process explained a lot about how the omegaverse works in that particular story, so I decided to repost it here so my readers over here can read it.

I really wish you had signed in to leave this comment so I could be sure you'd see my response. I really appreciate it when readers take time to think about what I've written and leave long, thoughtful comments like this.

You're absolutely right that Jeongyeon has really gotten screwed over here. She's in a really bad situation. I hope that she eventually gets a happy ending of some sort, but I don't know for sure if or when that will happen. (If you've read any of my other comments about my writing, you already know that I'm very much an improviser - I don't know what's going to happen until it happens. Sometimes I think my stories might work out better if I could/would plot things out beforehand, but so far I haven't had any success at trying to do that.)

As for Jihyo... All the alphas are kind of self-centered and then beyond that alpha-centered. Look at Tzuyu and Mina's conversation in chapter 19. Look at Lucy's treatment of Sei. Look at Lia commanding Momo to come to her room right in front of Jeongyeon in chapter 33. Alphas think the world revolves around them because to a large extent it does. I think Tzuyu thinks a little bit more about betas and omegas than the other alphas (see her conversation with Mina in chapter 12), but when all is said and done, she's still an alpha.

Also, when you're bonded - especially in the early days of a bond - everyone else seems not just less important than your bondmate, but somehow just a little bit less real, if that makes sense. So when Jihyo's bonded she's at a double disadvantage when, for example, trying to understand Jeongyeon's feelings.

Thanks for the rant. I thought it made great sense - you're better at expressing yourself than you give yourself credit for. 😊

Thts usually how omega verse goes too

Tho many authors do go the route of “but they’re kind to others/don’t care about their status” not many choose to write self centered alphas (besides males) since at the end of the day many of girls tht are written about aren’t like that to some extent

Tho some authors do go the route of “they don’t care for betas etc etc” or “beta there to be there”
