seo chomin is the type of girl that mainly gathers two types of reactions- love or hate. people either love to be around her or can't stand her at all, much to her chagrin- in chomin's ideal world, everyone would be throwing roses at her feet. it's no wonder why the young girl is a magnet to some- she's always cheerful and energized and can certainly bring the life to any occasion. unfortunately chomin has something of a "too much" gene which results in her antics sometimes being over the top and straight up annoying. this paired with her dumb disposition can make her absolutely insufferable. "ya know, i always wondered how the little spinny thing in a microwave works, how can it spin like that!?" try not to hold it against her though, the last thing she was doing in school was paying attention to lessons. one of her many faults is her willingness to do absolutely anything for attention. you can equate her ostentatious behaviors to clickbait or clout chaser videos on youtube, chomin will without any hesitation make herself look like an absolute buffoon. she doesn't exactly have the proper foresight to realize that this can sometimes come off unlikable or garner negative attention, one of her many fears. chomin hates being unlikable or being looked at in a negative way, when her antics go wrong it'll eat her up inside but she'll quickly find determination to win everyone over again.
now, what if i told you the above was fake, that everything was all an act? to be fair, it's not actually THAT deep- but chomin definitely knows what she's doing. she may not be the smartest tool in the shed, but she plays it up even more for laughs. her antics may seem completely unscripted and natural but a lot of thought actually goes into it. chomin wants the attention, the love, the praise, and in her mind this is the surefire way to do it. i mean, the funny people are always the most liked, right? because of this, chomin comes across as insincere to those who are good at reading others. chomin is fairly good at this herself, the young girl can scan a room and read the vibe of it instantly. despite how much she loves having friends and people around her, chomin is undeniably self-centered. she moves in ways that are beneficial to herself, and will unintentionally leave others behind. it's not that she wants to be a bad friend, she just doesn't know how to be a good one. when she sees that a friend is upset, she'll think about things that make herself feel better without taking into account of what the friend wants or needs. "just because you like getting your nails done doesn't mean i do, min." despite this, the girl is still amicable and can handle herself perfectly well in most social situations, there's never an awkward moment when talking to seo chomin because she's so violently herself, it leaves no room for awkward tension.
the most sincere part of her character is certainly chomin's dedication. when she realized she wanted to be an idol, there was nothing that could stop her- she did everything she could to make her dreams come true and that willfulness will certainly follow her in any other endeavors she may have. there's only one thing that could possibly cause her to stumble on her path, and that is her raging insecurity. chomin amplifies her ditzy drama queen antics because she fears that she's not good enough without it, that she's only worth paying attention to because of her 4D personality. simply being talented isn't enough, there's so many amazingly talented idols in the k-pop world, if she doesn't stand out she's just going to fade into the background. chomin isn't a stranger when it comes to comparing herself to others, she does it as soon as she enters a room. who's prettier, who's funnier, who's capturing the most stares? she HAS to see who, and if it's not her, why? at this point its pretty evident that there are not-so pretty things swimming around in chomin's mind, and most of it goes unshared to even her closest of friends. if asked chomin will give a "safe" answer, especially since her face is so easy to read, she knows she'll be questioned eventually. however she absolutely refuses to go deeper and prefers to keep things to herself, something that results in her having mood swings thanks to her pent up thoughts. these are referred to chomin's "drama queen" moments, trying to talk sense to a moody chomin is basically talking to a brick wall.
it is important to keep in mind that she is so young- in the grand scheme of things, seo chomin has no idea who she even is yet. there is still much growing that needs to happen before she can begin to even process who she is. this is the main hurdle of her journey- self-discovery. it can be super easy to get lost along the way, with the potential of her ego to grow unbearable from success. however, my main hope for seo chomin is to realize that being herself is enough, it will always be enough.
BACKGROUND
seo chomin was born as the daughter of two workaholic software engineers. it's a wonder that youngji, her mother, even bothered to leave work to give birth- chomin theorizes that if given the choice, youngji would've popped her out at her desk right then and there and go right back to her job. alas, chomin first opened her eyes in a stark white hospital during the early hours of april fifteenth. it's not often that couples that meet at work stay together, but seo hyunbin and dae youngji make it work- in fact, they wouldn't have it any other way. the two are known for being quite nerdy and in love with their jobs, if they didn't see each other at work then they wouldn't see each other at all.
the couple really weren't ready for a child, and that couldn't be any more evident given that they didn't reduce their work hours after chomin came into the picture. once her maternal leave was up, youngji was right back to work, chomin sent off to a daycare until she was "old enough" to be home (which to her parents, was age ten). thankfully a kind elderly neighbor in their apartment complex offered to check in on chomin every now and then, until she unfortunately passed away. by that time, chomin was twelve and appeared to have enough sense into looking after herself until her parents could come home. because of her upbringing (or lack thereof), chomin had a complicated relationship with attention. she never got much, if any, and like a typical child chomin craved it.
chomin became some what of a problem child at school, falling into the class crown role almost naturally. the laughs and applause she got when she would disrupt class to make a joke at the teacher's expense or sing a top 10 hit at the top of her lungs was super addictive. her parents were being constantly informed of all the trouble chomin was getting into and at first they did try to discipline her, but none of it worked. "oh so you only bother talking to me when i'm in trouble, is that it??" chomin was a firecracker and her parents inevitably couldn't be bothered. middle school was a mess but one good thing did come out of it- chomin discovered a hobby. at first, the young girl started learning girl and boy group dances so she could show off and maybe get some praise in class, but chomin found that she actually liked it a lot. she became somewhat obsessed with watching the live stages of all the top groups, she reveled in the screams and applause from the audience. the ultimate way of getting all the love and attention you could ever ask for- chomin couldn't see herself doing anything else, she HAD to be an idol.
luckily for her, she had a knack for it- chomin was pretty fast at learning new choreos and anything her voice lacked, she made up for in charm and stage presence. she begged her parents to sign her up for dance and vocal lessons and they obliged, hoping it'll keep chomin from getting in further trouble (it sorta did, having a goal kept chomin focused for most part but the goofs stop for no one!). she learned and practiced for two years (age 12 to 14) before auditioning for bm entertainment. "really min, bm entertainment??" / "what, like it's hard?" chomin wanted a guaranteed debut, there were no other options. her developed skills combined with her undeniable star power was the reason she was accepted into bm entertainment, and chomin couldn't recall a time in her life when she was ever this happy. a new journey, of unbelievable proportions, began.

chomin's time as a trainee was pretty turbulent despite how short that period was. fellow trainees either found her hilarious and stuck around her for entertainment, or disliked her because of her natural talent. chomin still trained very hard but she seemed to pick up things faster than some of the other girls, and the competitive atmosphere of bm entertainment was something fierce. some had tried to sabotage or bully her, but most gave up when they realized how weird chomin was and they didn't want to deal with her odd behaviors. she realized a few months in that with the exception of minseo, she didn't have any real friends. the people that stuck around her didn't really like her, they just found her amusing. keeping in touch with friends from school became nearly impossible because of her busy schedule. this was really rough for her, and she'll always be thankful to minseo for being her support system at that time. the last thing she wanted to do was cry to her parents on the phone, chomin was and will probably always be bitter towards her parents. adding to the fire, chomin found herself getting in trouble with her trainers every so often. she doesn't take being told what to do well, and it's a wonder she was never kicked out of the company given how strict bm was with that sort of thing. thankfully chomin realized she was probably on thin ice and tried to get her act together, really not wanting to risk her dream, and it must've worked- chomin was chosen to debut with chérie.

❝ HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES? ❞
♥ chomin huffs a bit, before straightening her back and flashing a lopsided grin. "i'm really heckin' nervous to be honest!! i mean, 2018- isn't that basically ancient history?" her face twists up as her thoughts about the situation come to her mind, "like, i don't even know anything about the past!! i was reading webtoons in history class!! but at least my group mates are with me, and i'm not doing this alone." her eyebrows go up almost comically as yet another thought occurs to her. "i wonder if my parents even realize i'm gone- unless there's a clone of me in 2036?!"
as she said, chomin is very nervous at first. unlike some of the other girlies, chomin prefers the present (aka the future) pop culture as opposed to the past. she's very much a fish out of water at first, but she tries to make the best out of the situation. besides that first initial thought of her parents, chomin isn't particularly worried about them missing her or her missing them.
❝ HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT THE PAST? ❞
♥ an almost dreamy-like expression takes over her face as chomin looks off into nowhere. "ya know, i was really unsure at first but it's not so bad! i kinda miss the technology but i can't deny the music in this time is really good." she laughs and fiddles with the rings on her fingers. "i thought i was dead meat for being so clueless but it's not even that different. i can probably get used to it!" chomin animatedly raises her first as a determined glint flashes in her eyes.
chomin definetly gets used to the past fairly fast, and even enjoys it! she loves how successful and famous fortuna becomes, it's exactly what she wanted when she decided to become a trainee. among the friends she makes and all the cool things about the past she discovers, it almost makes up for how much chomin misses the technology and pop culture of the future!
❝ HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT BECOMING A MEMBER OF FORTUNA? ❞
♥ the young girl bounces excitedly in her seat. "it's so amazing!! like at first, i didn't even know who they were- apparently some legendary group or whatever? but it's so cool to just debut!! even if it is with a different name..." chomin visibly slumps slightly, before being reinvigorated by a new thought, "but we're so famous, it's totally worth it!! sure, not at first, actually it was kinda hard when our debut didn't do so well, but we got there eventually and it's so cool!!" chomin is visibly overjoyed thinking of all the attention she gets since fortuna starting blowing up.
despite not knowing who fortuna was and the bumpy start to the group's debut, chomin loves being a part of fortuna after they blow up. a part of her does wonder if chérie would have had the same success, but getting caught up in the fame of fortuna erases that thought fairly quickly. she also finds it odd how similar she is to the original lead rapper and vocalist, but she just assumes it's a coincidence.
❝ IF THEY HAD A CHOICE, WOULD THEY GO BACK OR STAY? ❞
♥ chomin actually ponders this for a bit, brows furrowed as she chews on her bottom lip. "actually i... i think i wanna stay." perhaps the calmest she's been this whole interview, she smiles sullenly "i don't have the closest relationship with my parents, i'll miss them of course but i- i'd rather not give up all the amazing people i have here. i really will miss minseo and the other members who choose to go back, i hope they're happy always." chomin thinks about how the possibility of chérie not doing well and having guaranteed success here with fortuna also played a factor in her decision, but chooses not to say this as she fears it would make her seem unlikable.
chomin plays this off like it's a huge decision, but honestly deciding to stay was a no-brainer. fortuna is guaranteed success, chérie... not so much. she feels bad for leaving minseo, but her parents? it's kinda sad that she doesn't consider them, if only because maybe when she's older and her parents admit their wrong-doings, they could possibly repair their relationship... but oh well. chomin is too young to think rationally and take that into consideration.

♥ chomin needs the time to figure herself out, as mentioned previously her story is going to be one of self-discovery rather than love. she still has plenty of crushes, in fact she tends to crush super easily but it doesn't last for a long time and she doesn't act on it. i can picture her having crushes on her groupmates and other idols she comes across, gushing about them in her head for a week or two before forgetting the crush was even there to begin with.

♥ so here she is! i hope you like reading about seo chomin. i tried to keep in mind the meaning of her flower, but there seems to be so many different meanings depending on the species and color so i kinda went a little wild. however, one meaning i found was "innocence" which could correlate to the fact that she's so young trying to navigate in a big world that she doesn't entirely understand. i hope this is okay!! i also wanna point out that i at picking talent twins, i wasn't sure since BM trainees are so talented, so please let me know if i should change them up. also, i do prefer chomin being single since she is so young at the time of the story starting, but if after a few years you wanna spice things up, i wouldn't be opposed to an eventual love story with kai. totally up to you! but anyway, i'm totally in love with the story concept and can't wait to see how it unfolds. c:
