PERSONALITY
ESFP-A, determined, adventurous, fun-loving, caring, optimistic, hardworking, competitive, obedient, patient, practical, open-minded, courageous, naive, people pleasing
even though she had no friends growing up, it didn't stop nitika from becoming a social person. she can talk to strangers easily without being awkward and is very friendly. she tries hard to make friends by being nice to everyone because she always just wanted to fit in. the lack of friendships in her life has made her a people pleaser, she's nice to people that do her. wrong and tolerates a lot from others. when people are mean to her she'll still give them another chance and brush it off. her dad taught her not to be a petty person so even if people do her wrong she isn't the type to get even. she just lets it be and moves on with her life.
she prefers to look at the bright side of things, another aspect of her naivety. she doesn't like confrontation and arguing but she's also not the type to do something she doesn't want to unless absolutely necessary. she didn't have a choice but to marry nanuk and follow their rules but she didn't let her tribe's strict ways stop her from waterbending. it made her an outcast but at least she was doing something she enjoyed. she's a go getter kind of person, what her heart desires then she'll try to do it for herself without relying on others.
still she has a knack for adventure and spontaneity. she wouldn't mind doing things herself but would prefer if she had friends to do it with. there's a "tomboy" part to her personality which is only seen as boyish because the girls in her village are so pristine. she's close to her dad so she never experienced those girly moments of doing each others hair or having a sleepover and gossiping about boys. she's used to roughhousing, play fighting and burping contests. she finds those things hilarious and fun. take her somewhere new and she'll probably be the first one to try something daring. and she'll never say no to a challenge. but that doesn't mean that she doesn't want to experience girly "feminine" things either, she does want to try it. who said you have to pick one anyways?

BACKGROUND
Nitika was born in a small northern water tribe village to a nonbender mother and a bender father. Her father is a gym coach for the one boys school that her town has. Sadly her mother died in a snow leopard caribou accident when she was four. She doesn’t have much memory of her mother and her dad never got remarried so since she was young her father was the one who cooked and cleaned which was seen as odd in their town. The others reprimanded her father for not making Nitika do any chores, to them it was never too early to start but he thought the whole system was ridiculous. Even when his wife was around, he still helped with the chores because it seemed unfair to sit around while she did all the work. Nitika took healing classes from the age of six which she didn’t find very fulfilling, she preferred to learn bending from her father. Ahanu was a gym teacher but the games he played with the kids built agility and coordination getting them ready for military training when they got older, and when Ahanu got back from work he did taught the same to Nitika. He wasn’t an official bending teacher but he did teach them how to control their bending and dodge attacks. When Ahanu picked up Nitika from healing lessons, training was what she looked forward to the most.
It was clear that Nitika didn’t fit in with the other kids, the girls judged her for wanting to waterbend and the boys didn’t want to play with her because she was a girl. Her only friend was basically her father who adored her more than anyone else in the world. By the age of ten other girls started helping their families with chores but it just wasn't Nitika's cup of tea. She tried to help her father in the kitchen but made more of a mess than helped him so instead he let her be. While her father cooked and cleaned, she was out playing with the otter penguins and practicing her waterbending. He wanted her to enjoy her childhood anyways so he never pressured her into learning how to cook or any of those things. She was never a mean person, all she really wanted was a simple life to have fun and fit in. But instead she was an outcast, even when she tried to dress like them and fit in they still didn't accept her. They went as far as bringing her mom into it saying thats why she's such a weirdo.

As she got older she started gaining attention for her beauty and boys paid more attention to her but she was never the kind of girl to care for her looks or care about boys. The other girls in her village didn’t like how she got more attention than them and did petty things like talk behind her back and embarrassed her in public. Her father always told her not to worry about what other people think or stoop to their level so Nitika was always a polite girl but it still hurt nonetheless. No matter how much effort she put she just couldn't be like the traditional northern watertribe girl. It made her sad and lonely, her only friends were the animals around her village but being with her dad and waterbending always made her happy.
When she turned seventeen she caught the attention of Nanuk, the chief’s son, while taking a cooking class. Her fathers birthday was coming up and she wanted to surprise him by making him something delicious but she was in the back of the room somehow burning her stew. Even the instructor didn't know how it was possible. He stopped by just to say hi to the locals since it was apart of his duty and Nitika's beauty caught his attention. He went back there and helped her fix her burnt stew to many of the other girls dismay and the next day the chief showed up to her house with his son and a few other officials declaring their engagement. Nitika was shocked to say the least and her dad wasn’t happy but he was the chief’s son, he was the most sought after man in their village. It was every girls dream to marry him and considered a huge honor if you got chosen. After being forced to accept his proposal, the wedding was held soon after. Everyone in the village attended and Nitika was met with one too many side eyes from the girls her age as well as a few tears from her father who she would no longer live with from that moment on. Nitika was basically considered royalty, a life that she didn’t want nor was she ready for and it proved to be harder than she ever imagined.
Being a wife to the chief’s son was no easy task. She had to wake up early to serve him breakfast in bed, clean up after him, and adhere to his every command like a puppet. The other workers had to actually teach her how to cook since she had no idea what she was doing. It was really exhausting and she had a longing to go home after only the first few days.
Nanuk was apart of their village’s army and the expectations on him were high. Other than the group training he had with the rest of the troops, his parents got him a private waterbending master on the side to build his skills. Out of all the sparring practices Nanuk had, he never won a single one and when he got home he took all his frustrations out on Nitika. It wasn’t bad at first, it started with him just screaming more often, getting mad at the little things she did. But screaming turned into physical violence. At first it was throwing his plate against the wall when he wasn’t satisfied with a meal then it became actually waterbending at her when she didn’t clean enough. Women couldn't waterbend other than healing so she could never defend herself. Even the workers saw that their relationship was bad but didn’t say anything.
But Nitika was still poltie to everyone, even if she was in pain or unhappy she never let it show. Despite her terrible cooking skills the chief and his wife loved Nitika, she helped the citizens all the time and didn't let the whole royalty thing get to her head. But there's only so much one person can take, and on the day of the full moon she decided she’s had enough.
Nanuk came home angry as usual that day, he had a bad practice and was frustrated with his lack of abilities. Nitika did her usual housework, cleaned the house until it was spotless and made dinner. There was nothing for him to complain about because everything was in order, she even made his favorite food exactly the same way his mother taught her too. But Nanuk always found something, and this time it was hair. A long strand of Nitika’s light brown hair was found on the dinner table next to Nanuk’s meal. She usually had her hair down at home and a few strings leaving her head was out of her control, Nanuk never said anything about it before but today it ticked him off.
He suddenly grabbed Nitika by the throat and tosses her across the room into the kitchen supplies. How am I supposed to eat with a piece of hair next to my food? Did you forget where you are? This isn’t your poor one room igloo anymore this is the palace. He waterbended her off the floor and against the wall trapping her in ice. I wouldn’t have married you if I knew you were so disgusting. I should’ve known you were no good from the moment I met you. Now look at you, nothing but a useless woman. All Nitika’s life she was different, she tried so hard to fit in but they never accepted her. She tried everyday to please Nanuk to make him happy even if she wasn't yet he had the audacity to call her useless. Nitika knew she had potential to be the best female bender in her village and she didn't want to use it as a weapon, only for fun, but she was tired of it all and being called a useless woman especially pissed her off.
She freed herself from the ice and started waterbending back at him. He was taken aback but fought back, his skills were no match for hers, despite all his training she was still faster than him. She hadn’t waterbended in years and the fact that she was so powerful only highlighted her potential, especially with the full moon on her side but the one thing she wasn’t trained in was hand to hand combat. Nanuk pulled out his knife and slashed her slightly on the arm making all the water fall to the ground as she winced in pain. He tackled her to the floor and started choking her. You dare attack me?? I can have you expelled- worse, I can have you killed! I wonder how your father would feel seeing your headless body at his doorstep. Nanuk lifting his arm to attack her was the last thing she saw before she passed out.
Nitika woke up on the floor the next morning with no memory of what happened and a pounding headache. She looked around to see kitchen supplies all over the place and saw her husband laying next to her in a pool of blood with a knife in his chest. She panicked and tried to use her healing powers to fix him but it was too late. Nitika had no idea what happened the night before, she was convinced that a thief came in and robbed them but nothing was missing. Maybe he tried and Nanuk tried to fight him off but ended up getting hurt, it was the only plausible explanation she could come up with. The funeral was held and the search for the thief was on. For some reason Nitika couldn't cry at the funeral, she blamed it on shock but part of her was relieved that he was gone. The whole village attended to pay their respect to him and Nitika moved in with her father again soon after. Two weeks into the search they had a few suspects, there wasn’t any concrete evidence but the chief was just looking for someone to blame for his only childs murder.
One of the workers spoke out and privately told the chief that she heard commotion coming from her Nitika and Nanuk’s room the night before his death, saying maybe it was self defense. But the chief quickly shut down the possibility of his son being in the wrong. The chief found it suspicious that Nitika didn’t cry during the funeral. The palace nurse reported that she had a cut on her arm raising even more suspicion. The chief and the officials showed up to her home and arrested her on the spot for the murder of Nanuk. Currently she's in the small village prison where she still has no idea what happened or why she's there but her village is planning on sentencing her to death.
