TL;DR – minseo never saw herself as particularly special. or at the very least good at something. she's always been... average. in everything. ordinary. an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life, with no extraordinary dreams to aspire to. though, she guesses growing up with mother that was almost a member of m.i.l.k (an original girl group), is the most interesting she'll come by. becoming envolved in a school kpop dance group, she starts to actually become good at something. she enjoys being good at something, having a hobby. like the dutiful (and bored) daughter she is, she wants to make this dream come true for her mother. but no pressure though! it's not like she'll actually ever debut or anything...

BACKGROUND –
1997 – min eunyoung is 14 years old and the prime age to enjoy new age boygroup h.o.t and s.e.s. she was obsessed to say the least. 14 years old, in middle school, not really dedicatd to school, didn't really have a plausible dream to aspire to. forcing her dad to hook up the tv so that they can get the weekend music shows. and when s.e.s debuted, she was obsessed with the songs, the outfits, the hair, the makeup, the dance moves... and it clicked for her. "i want to do that!"
2000 – eunyoung is about 17 years old, in high school, and worked hard enough to save up her money, as well as consistently begged her parents to finally move to seoul with her aunt and uncle in order to follow her dreams. being that sm entertainment is the main, most active company out there, eunyoung auditions. not having much experience, but dances well enough, she gets a callback audition and then ultimately becomes a sm trainee. it's a lot more work than she thinks, but she is willing to do it, even though financially it's not working out for her.
2001 – talks of debuting another girlgroup circles around the trainee halls of sm entertainment and eunyoung tries her best to stand out, hoping for a chance to be picked amongst the seven other female trainees. eunyoung is confident in her dance, maybe not so much her vocals or rapping, but she believes she's got the monopoly on dance. she thinks so... until october rolls around. and she's not chosen for the new four member group, named m.i.l.k. she's devastated obviously, but doesn't give up. she stays faithful to sm, and continues to better herself in vocals as well.
2003 – she trains for a total of 2.5 years, until she finds out she's pregnant. from a male trainee. and somehow the company finds out and terminates her contract. eunyoung is even more devastated than before, if possible. with no money, no future, and her relatives wanting to kick her out, she had nowhere to run but to home. the last place she wanted to go back to. but it wasn't just about her anymore. she was going to keep her baby, regardless if it's father cared or not. eunyoung gave birth to minseo, june 9th 2004.
2014 – 2018 – minseo is 10 years old and growing up more and more everyday. she starts understanding her role in the world, which she sees as quite miniscule. she understands how to make herself likeable, so that she doesn't offend anybody. she learns how to get good enough grades, so that not to disappoint her grandmother. she listens to her mother brag that she was almost apart of a first generation girl group, almost never believing her, until eunyoung pulls out the scrapbook. she thinks her mom is the coolest part about her. but she did not know what she wanted for herself. she wishes that she was as determined as her mother in making her dreams come true. her elementary school teacher gives them assignment asking: what do you want to be when you grow up? and minseo has her first ever existential crisis. at age 14! so she makes something up. ehh! she's got time!, she thinks...
2019 – minseo starts high school and ultimately feels very lost. again, she has her second existential crisis. like everybody in highschool, she starts her adolescent "wanting to find myself" journey, but at least her few friends and seemingly everybody else in her class at least knows what they are striving for. she, at the moment, has nothing. that is until a couple of her friends encourage her to join the school kpop cover dance group, DTS, where they mostly did bts dance covers. minseo, being a bts fan (obviously), decides to do it, especially with the push of her mother. and she starts to see the glee and light in her mother's eyes when she tells her and decides, she'll try it. her mother runs with it. "and maybe you'll love dancing and want to go to dance school. we will scounger up the money. i can work extra shifts! and then maybe we can send you to seoul and see if you can get an open audition with a comapny..." minseo just smiles and nods, loving seeing her mother this excited. so she continues to dance with her group, until one member (read: the total idol insider know-it-all) mentions that mnet is taking auditions for a new girl group show and that they should all audition just for fun. minseo is down because why not? she just started dancing, but she likes how she feels when she learns a new dance. and she likes how she feels when she mentions it to her mother. why not put herself out there for once? "what's the harm?" she says to herself. and her mom says "i'll help you".

what made her audition? one) her mother always hinted at how she wanted her daughter to succeed in the dreams she couldn't. inspired by her mother's ability to have a dream, and the lack of minseo actually having a dream, she decided to adopt her mother's. and when she started dancing, and learning that she can be good at it. she gave it a shot. why not? two) she didn't expect much out of it (though her mother hoped.) but she just figured it was a good starting point. a way to get exposure somehow, even if she didn't pass auditions. but she... does? and she's confused. maybe it was less because of her dancing skills and more of her quriky personality that was shown in the video (thank you, lack of editing skills), she believes. and she was worried she was going to be laughed at when she broke down into her nervous ticks when she messed up on tape. but apprently this is exactly what the producers wanted. a girl-next-door, underdog vibe. and minseo is that girl.
