TL;DR – lee insol lives in a world with rose-colored glasses where life is all about k-pop and never becomes too serious and if it does . . .well, she'd be the first to break through that croissant with a silly joke or pun. never one to meet a challenge with nervousness but with confidence instead, insol would rather laugh in your face than fumble all over herself. never one to mean any harm but does not realize when and if she is overstepping a boundary. she's a bit self-centered only because in insol's world, everything is peaches and cream with a side of hot members in a k-pop group and outside of that, she'd rather turn a blind eye to it all. nothing should come between a girl and her a delectable dessert (or dream, should i say).

school was always boring, teachers are satan's spawns and life would always be considered a playground for miss insol's delight. concerts, fan-signings, k-pop groups were more her speed whereas structure and obedience would forever be the bane of her existense just why should she have to walk on eggshells and abide by such silly rules of "dictatorship" when there is so much out there in the world to explore?

rules are what ruined her sister's life for many years.

rules are what caused her parents to split apart.

rules are what injae ignored to pursue his dreams.

and quite frankly, insol wasn't going to become another victim of such things imposed on her by others because in her world, she is the captain of this ship.

whenever someone tries to "advise" her on what they think is best for her despite expressing her dream multiple times, insol pretends to listen but zones out, daydreaming of the day that she gets to grace the stages of mcountdown or smiling into the faces of fans greeting her at busy airports, bearing gifts and their undying love for her. however, the opposite occurs whenever someone else is struggling with an issue that the woman deems unnecessary and insol inserts her two-cents by suggesting that they "live a little more instead of stressing over such trivial things that won't matter twenty-four hours from then". . . at least that's what she would tell her fans whenever they're having a hard time with silly exams and whatever else society throws their way.

at the bright age of twenty-one, lee insol is the epitome of a dreamer despite having a mother who is forever concerned and wanting to ground her youngest in realism. but ask the daughter how she feels and often times, insol will call out her mother for being just a tad overbearing; even over the miniscule of matters like insol taking a three hour train ride for a vip member fan-signing or working a late shift at last notice to have extra funds for new album releases. and in that same moment while her mother is fretting over her safety, insol is making instant pals with other crazed k-pop fans at concerts or having a pointless conversation with the staff members of the fan-meetings who look like they're having the most tiring of shifts, cracking wise jokes and making those around her obnoxiously cackle. and then whenever insol decides to return home, she doesn't see a worried mother concerned for her wellbeing, she sees a tired woman who needs to live a little more.

insol sets up the new streaming equipment, solo-dolo mind you, in the living area so she can stream produce99 on the television screen for the two of them and while jaeree is commenting and cooing over inree's "exhausted" expression, insol just sees her sister's dazzling smiles and fun-having demeanor. whenever insol meets with her father for a one-on-one dinner to catch up, his concern of her attending college to get a decent career and get over her "k-pop obession" it is seen as a control tactic or a way to hold a grip on her similar to when he had one on inree. insol is fine with navigating through the life she has stitched together for herself even if she isn't to where she wants to be just yet and no matter what another's opinion may be, she's happier just being the boss of it all, in control and what not.

so just why did insol decide to compete on project dream4u again?

it is all she has ever known for the past three years of her life. setting up the blog, digging into idol's pasts and delivering the scoop was just step 1 of the process; someone had to be the person to do it and it just so happened to be her. but making it on project: dream4u was a dream-come-true-step-2 that became unexpectantly but at least she had her blog and followers to thank for the opportunity.

this may not be the most conventional way of becoming a trainee or getting a step closer to becoming an idol but when has anything that insol has done in her short-lived life been considered "conventional"?

BACKGROUND –

THE PAST INSOL
the product of a broken marriage, divorceés who parts ways without realization that the woman isn't ill just
over a lost relationship but because she is carrying and has been weeks before the finalizing of papers.

lee insol has entered the chat . . .
[ y2k ] woo jaeree takes a job opportunity close to the captiol of the united states to start fresh after dedicating all her younger years to a pitiful dork named lee hansol that she met in her teens. they'd birthed two children together, tried to conquer life's difficulties together but in the end, they just weren't any good together. then, as soon as jaeree is settled in her tiny, cramp two-bedroom condo, her nausea doesn't let up. seven months later and in enters a healthy baby girl who will never get the same experience as her oppa (injae) or unnie (inree) had: a seemingly functional family dynamic but truthfully, ask insol today how she feels about it and she'd just shrug with the following statement, "you cannot miss what you never had."

[ 2006 ] woo jaeree's important job comes to an abrupt end during a time that replicates the 1920's great depression all while under the presidency of a republican administration's obsession with war and revenge. with a self-pitiness so deep, jaeree packs up their belongings and boards the next plane back to korea but instead of seoul where she knows hansol resides, she returns to her hometown of gangneung where she frequently picks up her now fourteen and eleven year old kids to spend many weekends with her and insol.

baby meets pure affection and doting from the older ones but injae and inree are often left
confused whenever insol starts jibber-jabbering in english and neither of them are fluent.

"riri unnie, that's the best thing ever!" insol excitedly screams as her sister hands her a newly purchased doll sent by their dad. "it's so fantastic! daddy is so nice to get this for me! it's just like the one i saw on tv in america!"

"what did she say?" injae murmurs as inree stares at her sister in awe, the language foreign, the excitement evident. "i think she likes it?" inree replies as insol continues to coddle the doll while smiling at her siblings.

[ 2013 ] lee injae is accepted into a company as a trainee and insol is all the more atonished and more bewildered than even her eomma. after watching inree's dream fall apart, injae boldly decides to take his own life into his hands. are her siblings obsessed with fame? perhaps but insol wonders why. whenever she would ask inree about becoming a singer, her unnie would remind her to study. whenever she would ask injae, he would tell her to follow a different dream but whenever she would ask her eomma about her, jaeree would just pitifully gaze at her daughter before ultimately instructing her to finish her chores, avoiding the topic altogether. still, their responses would forever spark an interest in insol.

she had heard a few songs over the years of residing in korea again but most of her playlist consisted of western songs ranging from pop to rhythm and blues and if one looked into the genre further, there wasn't anyone who really looked like her. to know that here, teens could audition and train at a company to become one was ever more odd but all the more interesting and despite her sister failing to do so because of the company itself, injae was willing to give it a try without the consideration of his parents' disapproval. insol doesn't give up the notion and begins her own research.

she starts turning into bed early only to sneakily stay up later and watch music videos and live performances of various k-pop groups into the wee morning hours. she would make frequent trips to the album store where they would sell discounted k-pop groups albums for half the price. insol went even as far as trying to sneak into a fan meeting amongst a dozen of screeching fan-girls of a newly debuted group when the security guards caught and tossed her out of the event. this must be why her brother and sister are so adamant on becoming idols because feeling this kind of love and support from strangers was another realm of appreciation that insol could understand.

[ 2015 ] she's the class clown and no one is surprised for lee insol is nothing but an obsessed k-pop fan that is never taken seriously. mr. han is glaring at her beyond his specs, tapping the ruler against his desk aggressively as she makes dasom obnoxiously giggle over her dislike of kai's awful hairstyle but by accident this time. and then, the next moment, insol finds herself staring in the tired eyes of the principal, her wits end tested by the sixteen year old almost everyday. principal nam asks her if she will ever take life seriously and realize that education is her key to a successful career in which insol replies, "i am serious about things that matter but education will not be how i become an idol," this earns her a week's worth of cleaning tasks that even jaeree tiredly accepts despite her daughter not doing anyone harm.

the next interruption, insol is sentenced to help out the class president with the boring school newspaper, all because ms. jang caught her watching monsta-x's debut music video. still, insol adjusts the printer to the correct settings before hitting send and waiting for the pages to print. "you know, i am not sure why the principal is punishing me by helping you out," insol starts as the class president, kyungsoo curiously gapes at her, waiting for something else to be said. "honestly, i really do like writing but i'd rather express my own thoughts than write senseless articles like how the mathematics team won the national competition for the third year in a row."

"have you ever considered starting a blog where you can write your own opinions then?" kyungsoo asks, the hesitation absent as soon as she started speaking informally to him. "i am not sure how good of a writer you are but by putting your energy into something else worthwhile like writing about k-pop, it may help keep you out of trouble more often."

and insol actually considers what kyeongsu says as she moves the finished stack of copies over to him.

[ 2017 ] insol tries to save her blogpost once again, the wi-fi connection suffering with the congestion of the customers feeding off the one modem in the café. "please save," she chants while watching the wait screen spin around. her blog—woo! so sori!—has steady been gaining a traction of followers ever since she started sharing very small industry secrets about the entertainment world as well as newer groups; small tidbits that she had gathered from injae whenever he had time to visit and so forth. two hundred or so people who follow out of curiosity and twenty more who'd just subscribed last evening. she finally gets the article to submit, her frustration alleviating as she scrolls down to view it. "ugh, the comment section isn't enabled again, fiddlesticks" she screeches, startling inree who nearly whacks her with a dining utensil in her hand. "inree, you shouldn't threaten me like that. it's not my fault! it's all because of this bull's knuckles wi-fi! i told you i wanted to go to starbucks anyway!"

steadily over time, woo! so sori! grows a decent following of three hundred, an accomplishment insol's extremely proud of as a small-time "blogger" from gangneung under the alias of woo sori. slowly, she starts to implement more "secrets" and opinions into her blog about certain k-pop groups, members and gossip amongst the nation regarding said idols. luckily, more followers subscribe and woo sori's fame starts to skyrocket in the small blogger community despite insol's perfectly constructed alias and thus, she starts to experience a taste of what an idol may feel but on a much, much smaller scale.

this only fuels her more.

[ 2018 ] the lees are having a nice dinner, hansol and jaeree are cooperating quite nicely and injae is absent due to his idol schedule (which insol knew would collide with the dinner before her own family did, for sure she had to keep tabs of schedules like the news). insol and inree are dressed nicely, in simple but pretty dresses all thanks to their mother's paycheck when the bomb is dropped. inree announces her decision to join a survival after years in the medical field, being offered a another chance at her dream once again. jaeree is stunned, hansol is unimpressed and insol is excited. they (meaning hansol) try to talk inree out of it while insol reminds them that it is inree's decision after all and being an obedient daughter for so long is what caused her to miss out on the opportunity in the first place. hansol is agitated with both his children, jaeree shrugs and insol just smirks at her unnie as inree scrapes the spoon against the procelain bowl, a smile steadily breaking out onto her pretty face.

and then, insol gets an even grander idea.

not only had she completed step 1 of immersing herself into k-pop but now she would have two sources to gather even more intel especially about trainees who the public wouldn't know about unless under a program like sm rookies for example. with bright eyes and all the more excited, insol creates a username and starts searching through threads before creating one all by her lonesome under the survivol shows tag.

the forum on produce99 is littered with all types of comments, some cheering on her older sister, others questioning why someone from the medical field would try to be an idol at her age and so forth. others had commentaryt regarding other contestants like gaeul, girim, taeyang and so forth but to play her part, insol instantly cracks open a word documents, starts taking notes and makes a promise to follow the melodrama of it all. she also sends a quick message to inree to call her when she can, knowing that the network would be returning the cellphones back to the participants soon. she uploads a short blog, letting followers know of her promise and manages to create a username (seolwoo000207, seolwoo) on the forum to troll and gather the information needed from those claiming to be insiders or family members of the participants, just like her.

funny enough, if insol even mentions inree's performances on pd99, the harder she feels like she has to fake-hate her own sibling just to keep her cover in tact for her blog-posts.

I am all about about Kyungmi, Liling and Juri surviving as long as they have! And even Inree is fairing well for an older woman. @seolwoo000207 Are you an anti or a fake fan of hers? I bet you're not as pretty as she since you're cooing over simple visiuals like Gauel. I want to see a photo of you, better yet, like @yoonseobestgirl said, I want to see you become trainee. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

still, insol isn't ready to reveal who she is to a forum of strangers and instead fiddles with the idea of becoming a trainee herself. of course, with never having taken any vocal or dance classes, she would be put her at a really awful disadvantage but at least she could finally get a glimpse at the reasons why her siblings pursued such "unattainable" dreams as her father strongly believes even after the succession of his own son.

[ 2019 ] the mnet scandal hits the nation with rumors then strong allegations of voting manipulation fraud surfaces and well, insol isn't the first to break the news but she does add her input on the matter to the blog. so many angry followers are disappointed with the aftermath while others feel betrayed. they blame insol for not telling them much sooner about the lies despite her having such good inside scoop (gossip) about the participants of the show. and completely stunned by it all, insol debates if shutting down her site would be a better idea, in order to keep her sanity afloat. she keeps the same amount of followers but then more people start to follow only to inflict their negative emotions onto her sacred space, victim-blaming and cursing her and the forums are not any better either, with many deactivating their usernames altogether.

insol is simply stuck in a hard place, the difficulties of the situation weighing heavy on her while she witnesses her sister inree sign to an indie-like company called mystic to pursue her dreams; the gravity of mnet's wrong-doings plummeting inree into the limelight and for good reasoning.

[ 2020 ] january is brutally cold this year as insol stares outside the coffee shop, her shift almost over as an elderly woman bids her a good evening. she continues to people watch just as her iphone vibrates with a notifcation from her blog, a once sacred place of hers that she hasn't touched or uploaded to since last year. curious as to what it could be, insol proceeds to open the message and gasps out in shock that a baby starts to cry. apologizing profusely to the customers, insol asks her boss if she can leave early in order to process the message she'd just received.

how in the horse-stall was she supposed to break it to her old schoolmate, nam kyungsoo that she was the face behind "miss woo sori"? but insol , being who she is and hating stress, brushes it off and hits "reply". she will attend this auditon but she will attend under her real long-syllable name and not the gossip blog persona she had once come to label as a sacred place. perhaps she could restake her claim as a blogger by actually going into the industry and gaining first-hand experience. perhaps, she could serve a double agent while feeding her curiosity once and for all. she probably wouldn't last that long anyway.

lee inree – older unnie. docile, determined, empathetic. first born child of the lee clan of talent, always pressured by father to do well. dotes on her younger siblings a lot. admires insol for her bold personality. inree happens to be closer to her mother than father just like injae and insol. after being in the medical field for so long, inree takes a big risk and auditions for pd99 where she places pretty well but does not make the top 9. despite it all, mystic wants to sign her as a trainee and since then, has been working hard on polishing her skills and keeping in contact with her family as often as she can.

"insol, when i told you about those girls, it wasn't for you to expose them on your blog!" inree sulks as she reads and then re-reads the post for the third time in a row. "you're a gossip blogger now?"

"inree unnie, they all think my name is woo sori." insol explains while patting her sister's shoulder for comfort. "they will never find out that i'm your sister, okay? i will make sure of it as much as i can."

"ah, this unnie has forgotten the small people already," insol murmurs as she peers into her bowl of ramyeon. "i hope you're enjoying your new life and all."

"who knew you'd be this jealous?" inree teases while slurping up some ramyeon of her own.

"i won't be jealous for long. mnet wants me for their new girl group project!" she reveals just as inree starts to choke on her spoonful of noodles.

nam kyungsoo – former schoolmate. polite, patient, witty. class president of year 3, a year above insol in school, never quite understood the weirdness of american-born koreans much like insol but is polite because his parents would scold him otherwise. graduated college a year earlier than projected and is interning at cj e&m; was instantly recommended to the project dream4u team to recruit. he hasn't seen insol since graduating high school and is shocked when woo sori looks eerily similar to her.

"woo sori-ssi?" he calls while darting hid eyes between the sheet of paper containing the information he could gather and the woman standing boldly before him.

"ah yes, it is me, nam kyungsoo." she replies, her smile growing wider by the millisecond. "insol lee is present to audition. it's so nice seeing you again, oppa."

"does your followers know about this?" his asks, face littered in worry after the younger woman passes the audition with flying colors.

"my followers don't even know my birth-name let alone my face," she confesses while removing the clip-on microphone from her blouse. "i can't even believe they liked it? i mean, i can carry a tune but i'm not like injae or inree. can you believe it?"

"i can," he genuinely replies, his smile bright and sincere.

ENTERTAINMENT BACKGROUND – absolutely no experience whatsoever, unless you call her "ground-breaking" blog experience in the entertainment world when everyone on there thinks her name is woo sori and not lee insol. you've got a hot mess on your hands but insol will just simply say, "how would you know if you don't give me a try?" besides, despite her approach to k-pop, this is all she's ever wanted to do. it may not be the traditional way of becoming an idol but she's proud nonetheless.
WHY IS SHE HERE? – content, baby, content. is what she would say if she were woo sori, but in this lifetime insol knows she's struck gold and she's here to accomplish the one dream she's always wanted to pursue. and just like that, fate always has the last say and she's actually chosen as a group member per miss rona. now, she's "stuck" between being a gossip blogger and an idol and we all know insol's heart. does she actually enjoy prancing around the stage? flipping yes. does her adrenaline pump wildly? halmic-maneuver yes. is it more rewarding to have people be a fan of you while knowing your real name? well, duh.

when insol was offered the chance to become a trainee for a national televised show, her mind never floated to boys. her main focus would be to debut despite both her idol siblings' warning. particularly injae who would often remind her that boys could cause a distraction if she let her mind stray too far from her purpose. it was astounding to hear such a harsh statement come from injae of all people after being outed by a gossip magazine for dating a soloist within their company. needless to say, insol decided she wouldn't become a victim to such notorious gossip portals. besides, she'd never had an actual crush on a guy before aside from her two-second, very one-sided infactuation with the class president of year three, nam kyungsoo who she now considered a dear friend.

now, she looks at the older boy with a sense of pride and platonic endearment, his worried expressions always making her chuckle within. he was much like the older brother that injae couldn't be when attending to his own life. besides messaging kyungsoo via kakao, insol did not have much interaction with other men until helix's plans to debut an upcoming boy group started circulating around the set of dream4u which truthfully peaked her interest further. she was a renowned gossip blogger, a seeker of information who was now training as an idol and could not be the first to hint at such exciting news. it crushed her to not be able to followers but curious as lee insol is, that emotion would only remain relevant for so long.

the next couple of weeks, she finds herself bumping into nearly every potential member for the future boy group and specifically one guy who she had heard the others gossip as to be the main rapper of eterne. shin minseok was considered polite, visual material if not for some kid named sihyuk and . . . that was all she could gather from the tea the girls were willing to spill in her presence. not much else could be said about him and this made insol all the more curious. just what in the world was this minseok guy hiding that everyone could only fawn over his face and manners?

she plays it cool though and when she finally gets the chance to converse with him, he is kind but doesn't really talk much about himself and instead, the conversation leaves insol incredibly frustrated. whenever they would pass one another in a corridor, he would politely smile at her before turning away or to look down at his phone. whenever in the same room, he would greet her just as quickly as he would turn to chatte with another. soon, insol would find herself thinking of minseok whenever her mind would drift, whenever it wasn't focused on training or eating and then one day, she gets ridiculous courage and waltz right up to him without any consideration for consequences or awareness of the intense atmosphere brewing.

she shoves her phone into his face as sihyuk gapes at her in shock and woobyul mutters a string of curse words, completely taken aback by insol's boldness.

"you use kakao, right? i'd like to add you so we can chat," insol insists as she tosses her cell into his hands. "we can be friends, yeah?"

"well, insol-ssi," minseok softly calls as he gazes at the device in his palms. "i would hate to make this awkward but i don't want to be friends, especially with someone like you."

"is there a reason?" the latter asks, her tone completely monotone but her eyes glazing with a fury barely contained. "have i done something to you?"

"not personally, not yet." he replies before holding up the cell, "i'm just not keen on being friends with a person who doesn't know boundaries and you darling, are completely trampling mine."

THE END

COMMENTS – insol needs to be called out of her "insensitivity" or lacking of boundaries. she's too "blasé" fo her own good and therefore, it needs to be smooshed by someone super sensitive, i'd like to think. other than that, do your worst. chaos meets structure.
SCENE UGGESTIONS – let one of the girls discover her dirty little secret and hold it over her head until she stresses out about it then let it all explode into smotherings. or not. kyungsoo keeps it a secret despite being the one to accidentally recruit her under the alias of woo sori in order to protect his former classmate.
