🍄 baby. dummy. sweet girl. no thoughts behind those eyes. golden retriever? loves when she gets attention from friends!! will do anything 4 them!! the band is her life she loves them w all her heart! u can see her tail wagging when one of them texts her!

🍄 used to be social but having no consistent friend group since high school graduation has weakened her friendship skills.... not friends w her dormmates bc they have their own friends n dont invite her anywhere...

🍄 has a good social battery, good at holding normal conversations but horrible at taking the first step to ask to hang out, keeps to herself most of the time bc shes scared to make a wrong move around ppl

🍄 usually takes ppl telling her to do something for her to actually do it so after her fav prof told her to start a band she was like OK!... ILL DO IT FOR REAL! *determined*

🍄 can be cool... only gets nervous if she has to be the one to ask u to hang out... has a lot of anxiety around friendships/relationships bc abandonment fears; is a little excitable at the beginning of a potential friendship n wants to hang out n bake and get invested fast then ppl either draw back or she does bc shes afraid shes done too much n freaked them out

🍄 super sweet and loyal friend when u actually establish a connection w her, after the fog has lifted n shes not very anxious attachment anymore... gift giver likes getting or making things for ppl even if theyre small

🍄 very hard worker, good at planning and organizing because she tends to forget things really easily without any reminders— being extra organized but she does have tendencies to forget things once in a while if she's not in the swing of things yet

🍄  overachiever, tends to be a busy person because she does a lot & gets tired later... experiences harsh burnout so she decided to get mental health accommodations to help

 

LIFESTYLE poppy maintains a rigid morning schedule, waking up before 8am every weekday to make breakfast (for herself and her roommate(s) and also for rabbit) and review assigned pre-lecture content in the kitchen on the days she has morning classes. during classes, she's usually doodling in the margins of her notebook while she takes notes to help herself pay attention to the important parts of the lecture. specifically, on mondays and wednesdays, she goes to get lunch before her 12pm class sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 so she has time to walk or (sometimes) bike to class. lab days are tougher on her physically, so she tries to bring a bigger water bottle with her for post-lab hydration.

if she's too tired, she'll drag herself to bed and sleep for a few hours (usually happens on tuesdays and thursdays from 2:30 to around 4pm). otherwise, she'll be baking something she saw online and seeing if she can make it single-portioned so she doesn't have to go bugging her professors during office hours to have one. speaking of office hours, whenever professor melbourne is available, she invites poppy to stay and work and ask questions if she wants to (and she does). poppy sometimes helps with answering questions the lower div students might have and is often mistaken as a TA because of this.

on the weekends, she usually just vegges out at the apartment with rabbit and studies because that's all she really does. if she finds a new recipe to try out, she'll do it and forget that it's portioned for more than one person. when she has a shift at the nature center, she'll be doing behind-the-scenes work caring for animals under supervision of a mentor. she'd also run the help desk on certain, busier days. at the end of all her days, she'd just crash after a nice shower & whatever dinner decided to make or buy. rabbit finds his way to her in the middle of the night and sleeps in her bed.

 

was popular in high school, attention made her feel like sometimes she was being watched so she decided to leave norcal for good but no one decided they wanted to keep in contact with her if she stopped texting them first so she was!! alone in college for the most part (most of those friends were upset at her for leaving because she didn't have the exact same plans as they did, so it was a flimsy relationship from the start). had surface-level friends who she didn't see anymore once her GE's were finished and the people in her major felt kind of cliquey once she made her way into her third year so it was hard to make lasting friendships on her own. has roommate(s)[?? idk yet] who she's basically just living with, they don't hang out together but they help with the cat sometimes.

🍄 middle child of 3, only one to go to college so far

🍄 older brother taught her guitar in high school and went on to start his own band after graduating; he moved out after poppy left for college but she still listens to his old cd's

🍄 diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and adhd, has extra allotted time on exams and assignments and her cat is her esa she's been allowed to have in the dorms while she was living on-campus

🍄 has a habit of folding her hands when she's nervous or feeling especially anxious; stims include tapping her finger nails, touching her face, bouncing her leg, and playing with her hair

🍄 is a bio major bc she wants to work at a wildlife sanctuary helping rehabilitate wild animals

🍄 as organizer, her band duties are finding gigs, representing the group, and doing lots of menial tasks for the band like helping out with styling, breaking ties, and music input. she sees herself doing managerial tasks but doesn't really align herself with the "manager" title since she also does some backing vocals and writes a bit for the group

🍄 has a bit of a pottymouth when she gets drunk so she prefers to stay away from alcohol to spare herself the embarrassing videos & anecdotes in the morning. on the flipside, she hasn't gotten high before but she sure would like to try it someday...! hopefully things won't go down the same way they did when she had her first drink

🍄 uses a lot of adjectives in her speech when she's getting to know someone... it's sort of like . a nerdy thing she does to let people know that she likes them... that's super great! / i really love that! / wicked cool!

🍄 on a first name basis with most of her professors but will only call them by their first names outside of class. some people confuse her for a TA because she's there whenever a student visits for office hours

🍄 prefers to take early classes! gives her an opportunity to drink tea in the morning & make breakfast

🍄 she really likes to bake! it's her favorite hobby outside of music & she's been baking since she was old enough reach the kitchen counter. since she'd probably be the first one to practice (if not, one of the first ones) she bakes stuff for the rest of the band to eat between breaks (post-hand sanitizer, of course!)

farah glanced at the student sitting across the desk from her. she could tell something was bugging her somehow; maybe the energy she was emitting was something off-putting compared to the usual bright, poppy vibe she usually brought to office hours.

the small office was silent except for the occasional pen click and tapping of keyboard keys. the student's brow was furrowed in thought, chin propped up by her left hand on the table. farah opened to say something before being cut off.

"farah, is this figure in the lecture related to the essay question in the homework? i feel like it is, but i can't really explain it without cycling through the same words over and over again." the peach-haired girl pointed to a graphic in the middle of a sea of written notes.

"oh! um... yeah, what you wrote so far sounds good, you're just missing..." farah trailed off to see if her student would catch onto what she was saying.

"mm... ohh, my therefore statement. super cool, thanks! i'm almost done! i'll be out of your hair soon, professor." she laughed, turning her head back to her work.

"of course." she paused for a moment. "um, poppy?"

"hm?" the student's ears seemed to perk up again at the mention of her name. poppy pulled her eyes away from her notes.

"is something bugging you?" farah swiveled her chair to face her student. "you don't have to tell me if it's too personal, but i noticed you're not really... yourself today."

poppy heaved a sigh. her cheerful demeanor was clouded by a sober expression.

"i didn't think you would notice," she put her pen down. "i feel like... weird. i don't know. i realized i don't really talk to anyone my age anymore unless it's at the nature center. they're usually just asking for directions, too..."

"poppy," she urged. "you need to put yourself out there! it's what, your third year here? and you've been hanging out in my dingy office since last quarter!"

"i..."

"you need friends your age to hang out with. you're an excellent planner, as far as i know, so why don't you use that?"

"... like... plan an event to make friends?" poppy seemed confused. doing something like that sounded a little embarrassing.

"use your skills to organize something. like an event, or a club, or a band...?"

a light seemed to turn on in poppy's brain.

"yeah... yeah! a band! that's such a good idea! a band to make friends!" poppy smiled. flowers bloomed. the sun shone from behind the clouds. all was right with the world.

she started packing up her things and throwing them into her bag.

"i- poppy? what about your homework?" farah watched her stand up and sling her backpack onto her shoulders.

"i don't have any more questions! i just wanted to hang out some more before getting back home! thanks for not telling me to join a sport! hopefully you'll be seeing less of me this semester!! bye, farah!!!"

... and she was off.
