SONG JANGMI

MODE's Main Dancer, Vocalist
BG-BIT
FACECLAIM : 90 x 90

,

NAME : Song Jangmi

BIRTHDAY & AGE : January 30 1998 (21)

ETHNICITY : Korean

NATIONALITY : Korean

BIRTHTOWN : Daegu, SK

HOMETOWN : Seoul, SK

FACECLAIM : Soojin (Aisha, Joy)

HEIGHT & WEIGHT : 170cm & 48kg

APPEARANCE : There's something magnetic about Song Jangmi. She no visual, those round apple cheeks prever that, but her eyes draw you in. When she's on stage they grow heavy-lidded, the smokey eye makeup accentuation the intensity in her gaze, that little mole asking for attention. when she's off stage they are filled with life, twinkling with delight or amusement. Her lips and plump and curved into a lopsided smirk, ready to break into a sincere full-toothed smile at a moment's notice, ready to part for a booming laugh or a witty retort. Everything about her is vibrant like a live wire, thrumming with life, ready to shock the world.

STYLE : She's a mature girl with a mature sense of fashion. She wears her trusty leather jacket unless it's truly too cold or hot to do so, usually with tight jeans, a casual shirt or blouse, and heeled boots to stomp on anyone who needs it. A lot of blacks and darks that contrast beautifully with red lips. She's certainly not the most fashion forward but she has a unique tough-girl fashion sense that sets her apart.

PERSONALITY (N.)

❝ The Queen has arrived! You wanted mocha, right?❞

/ / /

TRAITS:

Dramatic, stubborn, ambitious, self-reliant, loud and proud,

chill and no chill, confident af, extra and dramatic af, constipated af

PERSONALITY : Jangmi is made of the pure extract of life. She's the reds of her lips, the cheek in her eyes, and the glint of her teeth as she barks a laugh. Jangmi embraces every part of life, she's lived in povery and she's lived in comfort, she's lived with restraint and she's lived with freedom and she would fight to keep her freedom on her own terms.

Jangmi is chill without having any chill. In general she's cool, she's fine, she's easy-going and doesn't demand much, she's like water she'll adapt to whatever obstacle is in her way. Where she has no chill is she's loud and dramatic and extra as all hell. Jangmi is a girl of freedom and fun, she'll throw a door open and announce that the queen has returned just to drop off some coffee. She has no shame and plays it up for laughs to entertain the room and herself. Sometimes just herself, does it matter? She's having fun, why aren't you?

It's the quiet confidence. The real security in who she is and what she can do and where she will end up, that's what sets her apart. Some people shout at the world that they're confident, hoping the world buys it. Jangmi sits back and sips her iced coffee while flipping through a magazine and you just know this knows she's hot .

In the end, whatever you say, Jangmi is going to do what Jangmi wants to do. She's an unmovable boulder, you can try pushing her up the hill but, much like Sisyphus himself, there is always a point where you slip and fall and the boulder gets its way. Sure, you can argue with her, you can reason with her, you can order her. It might work, temporarily, but Jangmi will do what Jangmi will do. The hundreds of times her ex told her she shouldn't become an idol did nothing but cement her resolve to get there anyway, and she will. She has no worry about that. She'll get there.

Still, things aren't all rosy. Jangmi is private, very private. She's loud and free with her quirks an her humour but you'll find you can spend a full week with her and still not really know much about her personally. Jangmi is very carefully about which snippets of private thought she doles out to whom, she's one of a few close friends not a wide net. She's friendly with most, she makes you feel like you're bffs the moment you meet, but do you really know anything about her beyond the shallow? Even with those she loves it's difficult for her to open up an to show weakness, as she sees it. You can be friends with her for years and still you won't hear a word of how she cried herself to sleep out of sheer loneliness just last week.

It's not that her loud extra personality is a front, that's really her, but there's no denying it's also an easy shield to not let things get too serious, at least on her end. She won't mind listening to you vent about your problems, she'll offer her candid and (as she thinks of it) down to earth and real advice, just don't expect her to confide in you in return, you feel?

She's a bird, a magpie flitting from shiny to shiny, free in the air and miserable when caged. Namtaek was so right when he told her not to become an idol but does she ever listen? It's the little things that get to her, how suddenly when she sneaks out the dorm to go somewhere someone stops her and asks her for a photograph. At first it's fine, it's fun, she pulls out a wicked grin and feeds off the ego , but soon it becomes an annoyance, a hindrance. There are times of the day where she want's to be MODE's Jangmi and there are times where she wants to be just another girl Song Jangmi. She takes her little freedoms where she can, often vexes the manager by sneaking out of the dorm to just go do something she wants to do. Curfews can't hold her and managers certainly can't hold her. In the end nobody tells you how lonely and isolating fame can be and she feels it.

Well, no, that's not true. Namtaek told her.

REPEATEDLY

But who's counting?

TRIVIA :

【 ✕ 】: She's a high school dropout, one o the few things she's a little insecure about. Truth is, Jangmi is pretty smart, she was just a ty and stubborn teenager much more interested in escaping town and becoming a dancer than academics. Now she wonders if she can do the exam and get her diploma anyway but she's a little scared to find out that maybe she is too dumb for it.

【 ✕ 】: Her laugh is LOUD and sometimes she snorts like a lil piggy.

【 ✕ 】: Professional photobomber. She's in the back whenever she can pulling faces and being extra.

【 ✕ 】: General queen of super extra poses and selfies, try and get her to be serious if you dare.

【 ✕ 】: Call her Houdini cause this girl can vanish at a moment's notice from anywhere. One moment the manager is doing a roll call the next it's "where the is Jangmi". On her way to the clubs of Itaewon, probably (what, you thought she went to Gangnam?? Please. Unnie Itaewon freedom).

BACKGROUND (N.)

❝ Good morning, don't become an idol❞

❝ Good morning, doing it anyway xoxo❞

/ / /

So how did she get here? Let's start at the beginning. Jangmi has been dancing since she was little: she did ballet, some jazz, the 'proper' stuff. When she was 12 she used to tell anyone who wanted to hear that she was going to be a professional dancer. Her dad would gruffly say that, no, she was going to become a doctor when she grew up. Or an accountant. Or a lawyer. Her mother would desperately say no, she was going to become a housewife and give them tons of grandbabies. When she was 13, 14, 15 years old, Jangmi would shake her head, jut out her chin, and say no I am going to become a dancer.

She was 17 when she quit school and moved to Seoul to become a dancer.

She here she is, all alone in the big city with no safety net and precious little money. She got a job as a waitress to pay for the way too expensive apartment she shared with 3 others and made ends meet. She started regularly going to classes at a decently known crew, it was no 1Million but it taught her hip hop and gave her connections. She was friendly, she was funny, she as personable, she made friends.

This dance academy she took lessons at happened to be affiliated with DM Ent, for which they supplied backup dancers and choreography. It just so happened that one time one of their failing boygroup's members got an opportunity to perform on a show and he wanted a female dancer to make the performance y, at the same time the dancers were booked for Aleis' asia tour and couldn't make it. One of them called up Jangmi wondering if she wanted a freelance dancing gig, Jangmi fell out of bed and tried not to sound too desperate as she agreed.

So she packed her dancing bag, put on her best sweats and crop top, and took the metro to the DM headquarters all the while fighting down a wicked grin. In the practice room she found a certain Namtaek, an awkward looking guy with a great voice and great ideas and charisma that made all the awkward angles disappear as soon as the music . They got along swimming. Very, very swimmingly. Too swimmingly. And then his group members walked in on them making out and he never ever heard the end of that one.

So they started dated. Jangmi still did her waitressing, she got some more dancing gigs here and there but nothing major and things settled into business as usual, now with a boyfriend and a rowdy extended family. They didn't have much to do between promotions and she often hung out with Namtaek and whoever would walk into the dorm and drop onto the sofa to watch Goblin with them. It was one of the happiest times of her life but also it became so apparent that both of them wanted different things in life and it didn't work out. Well, actually, maybe they wanted something of the same thing. Namtaek would always complain to Jangmi about the idol life, complain about fans (then too much, then too little), complain about the workload, complain about the stress and expectations, complain about schedules (then too many, then too little). She heard it all and despite the wall of negative press her curiosity rose. She'd stood on stage with him, basked into the applause with him, but all of it had been his and not hers. She wanted that applause and adoration for herself.

They broke up after a year of dating. Him to concentrade on his career, her to focus on scheming to get hers. Namtaek strongly strongly strongly advised her not to. It's not worth it, he said. Spotlight asks more than it gives, entertainment companies ask more than they give, fans ask way more than they give. Don't do it Jangmi, don't subject yourself to this, there is no going back.

it. Jangmi wasnt meant for life behind the scenes, have you seen her? Have you seen her dance?

Namtaek had told here a thing or two about the goings on of his company and she had a wicked idea. She went straight to the front desk and demanded to see the CEO, was denied until Jung Minah happened to walk back from lunch and Jangmi managed to corner her. "You know me," she said. "I've danced with Namtaek before and I was fire on stage, I can be your new main dancer if you'll have me."

Jung Minah looked her over once, twice.

She was hired.

TALENTS : (make sure the twin matches her position!)

【 vocal 】: Seungyeon, CLC (Soojin, (G)I-DLE))

【 dance 】: Soojin, (G)I-DLE (Seungyeon, CLC)

TRAINING YEARS : 2 months at DM

TRAINING : It was really less training and more a crash course on how to be an idol. Thankfully for DM she has a nice natural voice that just needs to be honed, something many future vocal session will work on for sure. She hasn't gotten the time to get to know the other girls very well at all, only a shallow idea of what they're like while many of her classes were one on one desperate acts of trying to get like 3 years of trainee information into her skull.

/ / /

PREDEBUT EXPERIENCE :

【 Backup Dancer 】: After she danced for Namtaek she danced a handful more times here and there, the most major thing was probably when she danced in the MV and stages for Minseo's Is Who, but that's really the only experience she got. Just enough to get a taste.

Mixed feelings is one way to put it. On the one hand Jooa's childishness and spoiled brat attitude are a major buzzkill for Jangmi, god she is not paid enough to deal with that , and Goddess is she ever going to stop babbling on about this her-life-is-a-drama bull??

But on the other hand Jooa is alive in a similar but different way to Jangmi. There's an impulsive energy to her, even more so than Jangmi's own. She's chaotic neutral and if anything nobody can say that Jooa is boring.

There are times when she lights up the room and times when she shrivels away. A push and pull. Jangmi wouldn't say that it doesn't worry her sometimes, but then Jooa opens and something so bratty comes out that the worry evaporates in the sun.

Miho is exactly the kind of person Jangmi underestimates. She seems very weak, she has no backbone and constantly relies on others, tries to make peace at every costs, could get lost if her only directions were 'go straight until you hit a wall'. She's nice, don't get Jangmi wrong, but there are a lot of eyerolls and a lot of 'honey how on earth are you even still alive??'

Were it up to Jangmi the girl would just grow up already. Whenever she convinces Miho to do something together she always feels at least partially a babysitter, here to make sure Miho is okay, and Jangmi is a horrid babysitted. "Wait... where's Miho? Oh, ."

They are complete opposites, probably as far on the spectrum as you can go, but they both posses something the other can learn from. Miho is unafraid to be vulnerable in a way that Jangmi would never admit she needs and Jangmi has the backbone and ability to take from life what you want that Miho would do well to learn. As they learn and grow they might grow towards each other and see the value in the other's way of life. Opposites in harmony.

Jangmi is private in that she has specific areas of her mind walled off for nobody to enter. Gireon, though? Gireon has a 10 ft. electrified fence around all of her at all times. Fine, whatever, if that's how you want to be. Jangmi believes in free will, just don't expect any friendliness in return. There's only so many times Jangmi is willing to send a playful jibe her way only to be met with the north pole, you feel?

That being said, despite not being close at all, Jangmi would fight for Gireon just like she'd fight for all of them. Found family is a thing, even if Jangmi can't open up herself these people are still her pride and she gets to complain about them but nobody else can, got it? She would absolutely have Gireon's back if ever Gireon needs it, no matter what.

There is something about Aera that reminds Jangmi of herself, moving to Seoul age 17 all by herself, learning everything one needs to learn about adulting all on her own (how do washing machines work? Wtf are taxes even? Oh how do you change a lightbulb? How do I not burn my apartment on fire) now featuring fame and constant surveillance.

Don't get her wrong, Aera doesn't start out being her favourite person, the quiet standoffishness does nothing to warm her to Jangmi, but the quiet sense of I'll-do-it-myself does, and Jangmi feels compelled to help where Aera will accept it. They're both hella tsundere, Jangmi only helps in ways that make both of them feel like it's no big deal, for Jangmi a way to not let Aera in, but even the best tsundere can't keep up permanent defenses.

Meanwhile Aera, quiet little Aera, sees all and remembers all. She pays attention to the little things the way Jangmi never can, pays attention and cares. And Jangmi finds she cares a whole damn lot too. They're an unlikely pairing, Jangmi and Aera, but Jangmi thinks she'd probably kill for Aera when all is said and done.

Jangmi likes her from the start, she's the only one who truly vibes with her, the one up for adventure, the one who laughs at her sassy jokes, the one willing to sneak out of the dressing room and explore the music show halls with her. Harin both audience to and participant in various antics, just the way Jangmi like it.

But of course things can't be that easy. When one person doesn't let anyway in farther than skin-deep and the other slips further and further into jealousy. Jangmi cements herself as fandom meme-queen darling while Harin takes her place as front and center empress of CF's but for Harin it's not enough and for Jangmi it's all too much. Friendships fray, distance grows one night sleeping at the dormroom at a time, one solo escape out of the dorm at a time.

But all is not lost. As characters grow and learn, Jangmi and Harin can grow and learn to mend the chasm. There is much Harin can teach Jangmi about dealing with fame, there is much Jangmi can teach Harin about not being a tit. They just have to grow to get there, and until then the chasm widens one step at a time.

The great scandalous Kim Jinyi, once a member of the girl group Aleis, now an actress and model still under DM. She breathes and people are offended, and Jinyi gives no . Posting provocative images on instagram? Being an unbothered queen about hate comments? Letting her s go bra-less and free? She can even accidentally flash a in an insta live and remain completely unbothered and continue getting CF offers by the bucket, such is her power.

You can see how someone like Jinyi might end up a great influence to Jangmi who struggles to keep hold of her freedom and sanity as cog in the MODE machine. Jinyi is proof that there might be another way, that being an idol doesn't have to mean being a robot, and if it does then there's always a way out, you just have to earn it.

LOVE INTEREST : Lee Namtaek, main vocal and (hopefully) leader of AXIZ

FACECLAIM : Hui (Pentagon)

BIRTHDAY & AGE : NOVEMBER 20 1995 (24)

PERSONALITY : Namtaek has music in his bones, though nobody would look at him and assume it's the idol path that he chose. His face and his attitude is more that of an indie star. His posture is relaxed, slightly slouched, hands in his pockets and a smile on his face as he looks into the distance, no doubt contemplating something of real importance like his place on this mortal plane. And then he snorts to himself, turns to you, and tells you that cloud totally looks like a turd and you realize that, yup, he sure does belong in Axiz.

Namtaek is the beautiful soul of an artist trapped in the body of a total dork and they're constantly vying for control. One moment he's all philosophy (and he legit has brilliant thoughts, he thinks things over a lot and is generally introspective and intelligent) the other he's making an extremely stupid comment and Jangmi's looking at him like did you really just say that? Like, both of that?? Intelligent but not very smart. He's generally chill but that attitude belies a surprising sassyness. Namtaek is good with words on a sheet of paper and words in his mouth and he has a generally good-natured sass and a wit that's sharper than you might expect. His wit is one of the things Jangmi loves most about him, he can be a right shady queen, but never afraid to shade himself just as hard.

He would have never pictured himself a leader. Youngest of 3, Namtaek was used to just being the youngest and not having to take responsibility until his debut kept getting pushed back and he looked around him and, , all these dudes were younger than him what the actual how the did that happen?! How is this lazy supposed to parent {insert number of members} children while also keeping his sanity and keeping them all from killing themselves?!?! You know that moment some people have when they're about to become a parents and they're like wtf I can't even take care of myself?? No? Well, it was Namtaek screaming inside for the first 3 years of being a leader. He's chilled out now though, turns out he makes a pretty good leader though he's still 100% winging absolutely everything, turns out you can get away with a lot as long as you look like you know what you're doing.

"Hey hyung, I just met this chick from Everglow can I go chill with them?"

"Yeah sure."

"Are you sure he's allowed to do that?"

"Idk, eeeh, probably?"

He's a genius, an absolute genius with music, it's the only claim to fame he has and he's well known in the music circles after composing Never and Energetic (in fact the show he was on when he met Jangmi was Breakers, a show for singer songwriters*) but not all geniuses are made equal. Namtaek has a penchant for lazyness, he's a real homebody (really he can be found at home much of the time, Jangmi used to have drag him outside). It's not uncommon to find him entrenched on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket and pocky in his mouth, with the bit of equipment that he can balance on his lap.

"Shouldn't you go to the studio or something?"

"Probably."

"So... why don't you?"

"I'm super comfortable right now."

Still, his biggest strength is his heart and his loyalty. He really did clean up into a good leader no matter how it might look from afar. Sure, he's not the most structured, he does othing to temper the chaos in the dressin room, but he would die for them, even kill for them. He has a big heart and he's not selective in who he lets in and whoever is family is family for life. He's totally emotionally open where Jangmi is closed, he isn't afraid of vulnerability but he has learned to fake it till he makes it for the sake of the group, he does keep a strong front for most of them, pretends it doesn't bother him that the group is unsuccessful, that he doesn't feel responsibility for it. But Namtaek needs his outlets, he has his emotional supports and boy is he not afraid to vent at them (Jangmi being one of them). The support not being a two way street is, in fact, one of the things that bothered him most about their relationship, and still does about their friendship.

*Let's pretend Somin in Swim Good didn't sing cause that's what I thought when I started writing this ;A;

BEFORE : They met when Namtaek needed a y dancer for his performance on Breakers and Jangmi delivered (oh she delivered). He was a little bashful at first while Jangmi was just thrilled to have some actual dance work and gave it her all... There is chemistry, oh how there is chemistry. She likes his company, he's funny and witty and sassy and when the music turns on all the awkwardness and the slouch melts away and he's all charisma, totally transformed. He thinks she's a riot and she's stunning and she's fun and has he mentioned super hot? One day they're practicing and it's super late (and Jangmi is wonderin if she's getting paid overtime for this (she wasn't)) and before either of them can use the rational parts of their brains they're making out in an empty building with only the immortal skyline of Seoul for company.

So. That happened. And it happens again. And the show comes and goes and they're like now what? Jangmi suggests she take him on a date, Namtaek stumbles over his words in eagerness to accept. They date. And then they're dating. It's easy going, Jangmi is fun and free, Namtaek is chill and goodnatured. She takes him out of his house to the forgotten and niche corners of Seoul, he introduces her to the family and she delights in meeting all of Axiz and their varied levels of idiocy. It's like being welcomed into an extended family of 20-something and teenage dudes and she loves them almost as much as she loves Namtaek. But he's an idol and soon he's whisked away to do idol stuff and she doesn't see him for weeks at a time. They promote in Japan and she waitresses, they go on music shows and she waitresses, they have an event in Thailand and she waitresses. Meanwhile Namtaek has trouble connecting with her, she's all fun and free but where he opens up to her and talks about her problems when he asks her she's always doing fine, doing well, pushing through. She never surrenders what's inside her heart and her head.

He wants to make it work, she wants it to stay as it is, the CEO finds out about it and the group is picking up some steam with their new song and they can't risk a scandal like this when the group might just be getting somewhere, you know? The split is amicable, both of them tell themselves that it was for the better. It wasn't working anyway, and they're still friends! In fact they're better friends than they were partners, aren't they?

And now Jangmi has set her sights on being an idol but Namtaek knows her and he knows the business. He's complained to her often enough about it, when there's not enough fans, when there's too many, when the promotions are endless and sleep is nowhere to be seen and neither is their paycheck. When he feels like DM has a leash tightly around his neck, any freedom only taking him as far as the line will go. It would be horrible for her, the girl who prizes freedom and expression above all. You have to be willing to sell parts of yourself, he desperately tries to make her see. You have to be able to make sacrifices. But Jangmi is Jangmi, and he should know better than to press the issue, it will only strengthen her resolve. So now he watches while she makes the worst mistake of her life, and she's smiling through it all cause god forbid Song Jangmi show weakness. It's absolutely maddening for him but it's her choice. Won't stop him from texting her every morning tho.

LOVE STORY :

Exes who pretend they're better off friends while actually pining for each other while pretending they're not pining for each other while making out more often than ordinary friends would.

So, they obviously still have feelings for each other and Jangmi counts him as her best friend, if only she could treat him like someone worthy of her weakness. It's so strange for her to re-enter his life as a labelmate, an idol, to meet Axiz again as a hoobae this time (it's weird for all of them, really, she was the chill cool girlfriend their leader didn't deserve but somehow managed to reel in anyway. The mystery of how he could have gotten someone so out of his league a frequent dressing room discussion), now she's supposed to show them respect (as. if.).

He's her confidenct in the small ways she can allow herself to confide. He's the drinking buddy when the group becomes too much. He's the one on the other side of the kkt when backstage bores her to tears. He's a rock ready for her. But he's also a temptation with every drop of alcohol destroying blocks and weakening resolves. They convince each other they're fine like this, they work great as friends, even when they were dating they were also each other's besties, but the pull never quite goes away. And then they've had a bit to drink and they're alone and the mood is right and they're making out again. And then they pretend it didn't happen because they're just REALLY GOOD FRIENDS.

ENDING : I definitely want them to get back together for real this time, work out their feelings and give each other another shot. Make her open up to him, make them make out a lot, make me swooon.

CUTE TIDBITS :

【 ✕ 】: They're the same height (despite the fact that Namtaek's profile says 172, it lies) and whenever she wears heels she's taller than him. He's a little insecure about it, she thinks it's soooo cute.

【 ✕ 】: Watching horror movies together was their thing. Of course she'd be the one that's laughing and he'd be the one clinging to her arm whimpering and screaming. To this day watching any horror film without someone clinging to her and screaming in her ear just does not feel the same.

【 ✕ 】: They've dropped formalities very early in the relationship and she hardly calls him oppa (only when she must, really). She declared fairly quickly that he's a mess and she's the adult in the relationship.

【 ✕ 】: He really wants to be super romantic like they do in movies but he's more about the life of sitting on the sofa watching those dramas, you feel? Good thing Jangmi isn't really one for romance either, making out on the sofa to the background music of Goblin is just as good.

【 ✕ 】: Really. Every morning he texts her "Good morning, don't become an idol." Every morning she texts back "Good morning, doing it anyway xoxo".
