1. Feels super distant to everyone else because she was very close with the previous trainees and thought they were going
to debut together but ha ha jokes on her she's stuck with these imposters
2. feels like she's been groomed to be the center her entire trainee life, so it's very much a ??? knowing she's not really
popular. on one hand it feels like she's been betrayed - like something she rightfully owns has been taken from her. on the
other hand, there is so much freedom in it she can't help but enjoy it, especially seeing the center struggle. at the same time
the feeling that it's hers is so overwhelming she can't help but try?
3. has been in a relationship with one of the other company people for a long while now, but since her debut it's been declining
into the drama phase.

MODE's LEAD VOCAL

FACECLAIM : 90 x 90

,

NAME : Kim Somyeong

BIRTHDAY & AGE : January 2, 1997 (22)

ETHNICITY : korean

NATIONALITY : korean

BIRTHTOWN : Yongin, South Korea

HOMETOWN : Yongin, South Korea
FACE CLAIM : Red Velvet's Joy (b/u: loona's Yves, blackpink's Rose, (g)i-dle's Soojin)

HEIGHT & WEIGHT : 172cm & 49kg

APPEARANCE :
She used to be chubby by idol standards, around 64kg, with dumpling cheeks that Sungkwan found absolutely adorable. Somyeong really didn't think about it, until the netizens started talking. Which was how she ended up 15 killograms thinner, her cheeks hollow and her ribs sticking out. Nothing can be said - she looks very much like an idol would. But long gone are the pizza date nights and the late ramyun snacking. Somyeong drools over it, but pushes the plate aside, almost tearing up. She's too dedicated to cheat. Even if the delicious smell of noodles makes her want to risk it all.

STYLE : Somyeong's fashion style is a weird mesh of all the other DM artists that she grew up around. There's Lee Misun's glam/ladylike/female boss sleek blouse and pants and very high heels, there's the Haeyeon's casual t-shirt and jeans, and there's Hyuni's... whatever it is she calls style. They all coexist together in Somyeong's wardrobe in a semblance of a harmony. (think taeyeon + hyuna + mijoo + literally every other style you find meshed together because everyone wanted to give little Somyeong fashion advice and unfortunately ALL of them stuck).

PERSONALITY (N.)

❝ character quote. max length: one line. ❞

/ / /

TRAITS:

Selfless and selfish all at once, hard-working, (not so) private, caring

naturally laidback, groomed into competitiveness, desires company but learned how to be alone

PERSONALITY :

Like a little queen, like a little gem, Somyeong has been groomed for the crown of idolhood since she was a little girl. There were many things that one needed for such an endeavor - a hardworking nature and a caring smile, a sharp mind to keep the intrusive questions at bay, and a fiery passion for the constant more, the constant chase towards the next objective, with an insatiable hunger to fuel the competition.

Somyeong was never really meant for that.

She's always been hard-working, striving to be the best she can be and deliver the best result she can to the expecting audience (be it the trainers, her family, or a screaming sea of fans). Hard work has never been an issue, more like a fun challenge to overcome. It always had to do with things Somyeong loved, like performing, or acting, or finding new secret spots to make out, and so she's always enjoyed the process of hard work, the process of improving and seeing the improvement right before your eyes. The satisfaction that comes with it. Even the sacrifices one has to make to achieve it (no carbs? no sleep? no private life? She'll do that). It was the other parts of idol royalty that Somyeong had problems with.

She never was a competitive person, for one, not one for wanting the spotlight to be solely on her. Success has always been a vague term, much less important than teamwork and experience and happiness. These together meant success, not the number of fans screaming her specific name. But the years of childhood at DM have groomed Somyeong for the reality of the industry: the lone wolves and the lions, the survival of the fittest. There was no option but to be greedy, no option but to hear "you're going to be our gem, our diamond, our very best." So there was no option but to push, to fight. The teamwork, the morals, the comradeship, those were never forgotten - not even ten years of training would beat that out of her system - but while her heart wanted to wholly cheer at her friend's success, her brain, bred and groomed to fit the system, would sing from the dark corner of her psyche the sweet tune of jealousy and greed.

It's a weird feeling, to say the least. She knows she doesn't care about these sorts of things. Yet she sees the amount of CFs the new center is getting, and there's this inexplicable feeling of jealousy, of ownership Somyeong can't explain. She's been taught all of her life that this is what success looks like, only she's been taught to recognize it from her own point of view, not as a watching bystander. It feels wrong, and it feels like something that has been stolen. Jealousy is a , competitiveness is a , especially when you want and don't want it at the same time.

She's also never been a private person. Even if you put aside how much she loves being around people, how much she cherishes relationships (and you really can't put that aside when it comes to Somyeong), there never was a need for privacy. Being a trainee, there was no such thing as privacy. Minah always wanted the truth from her ("all of it, there will be no secrets around the company Somyeong, at least no secrets from me"), and when more trainees her age joined, Somyeong always wanted to share everything with her newfound friends. Now, it's almost like whiplash. She needs to keep things private from the audience and the fans (and she doesn't want to but she understand why she needs to and boy if isn't a mind in itself), and her newfound friends aren't very new anymore, they're long gone and the new people she's stuck with are all wrong and she wants things to be the way they were before but it's so wrong that she has no choice but be private. She doesn't trust these new girls with her feelings, not the way she trusted them, and she doesn't trust her own feelings with these new girls - she doesn't want, despite how obvious it can be at times, to tell them exactly what she feels about them. She cares too much, despite herself.

And thus we come to problem number 3.
Somyeong has a lot of love to give, but Jangmi always says that self-love is the best love. But there is only so much love one can have. So what is more important? Her love for others or her love for herself? Somyeong isn't sure herself.

She is very much a people's person, as we already know. She loves people, loves being around people, and doesn't tire of company. She loves sharing a laugh, loves talking and debating and arguing, loves just being around others. She even became a trainee not just because she loved performing, but also because she idolized the comradeship of groups and how they seemed like sisters. That's what was so magical about being in an idol group, and it feels like that'd just another thing stolen from her because all of her trainee friends left and she got stuck with the new imposters, the imposter that don't work together the way the old group did, and don't share the years worth of hardships the way the old group did, and don't feel right the way the old group did. But despite all that, despite how these new girls shouldn't be here, how they steal one thing after another from her, Somyeong cares. She hates that she cares, but she cares.

She doesn't want to care, she really doesn't. Life would be that much easier this way. It's a tough world, and the industry is cutthroat - she of all people should know that.  It hurts so much, caring. She wants to see her friends leave the company one by one and believe it when she says "ah well, that's just life". She wants to believe it when she comforts one of the baby members with "it's just some bored loser on the internet who has nothing better to do than write malicious comments from his mother's basement". But her friends leave DM one by one - the friends she spilled blood, sweat, and tears with and stayed up late eating snuck in noodles and dreaming of debut - and her heart breaks every time, even months after they're all gone. And she smiles warmly and says encouraging words to her members, but the bored loser's words hurt her, stab her heart that can't help but ache for her, for the other girls, imposters or not. She desperately wants to make things work, to make things feel right again and not hurt like it does now. She knows it will take hard work, but she's no stranger to that. Hard-work isn't scary. Loneliness is. Things staying the way they are now is. She cares, and it's the greatest pain of all.

She is the bittersweet irony of a child tossed into an adult industry, forced to grow up yet forever remaining a child. The bittersweet irony of a young girl who feared nothing more than not having company yet quickly learning how to be alone nonetheless.

TRIVIA :

【 ✕ 】: Somyeong learned English at DM and in school even as a trainee, and she's fairly decent at it, but after seeing how most of her fans are international, she really gets into it and works hard to improve it even more.

【 ✕ 】: For a while, she doesn't have a lot of things to do between promotions while the other members have their solo activities, and so she spends a lot of that time interacting with fans on social media both in english and korean, which cements her even more as the international fan favorite.
【 ✕ 】:
While she has no problem with starving herself, when it comes to others it's a big no-no for Somyeong. Especially the younger girls, those that need to grow and develop and they need the food!

【 ✕ 】: Over the years as a trainee, Somyeong picked some songwriting and composing skills. Nothing too impressive, as she's never really focused on it, but she knows the basics.

【 ✕ 】: Believes that the supernatural exists. Just because we can't explain it doesn't mean it's not real. Especially since when she was a kid she experienced what she deems a supernatural experience - saw a ghost of a white lady walking around the house.

【 ✕ 】: A compulsive hobby collector, Somyeong tends to share her hobbies with the hobbies of her friends rather than develop hobbies on her own. the Sirena girls all adored video games, so Somyeong learned how to play them (usually as a healer, aiming was never her thing). Hyuni loves shopping at vintage shops and Haeyeon loves baking. Somyeong does too. Miho got interested in DnD, and so Somyeong somehow got into it herself. Jangmi has her clubbing, and when they used to hang out together Somyeong liked it too. Even Sungkwan with his boring fishing.

【 ✕ 】: Loves ALL animals with all of her heart. From adorable pets (would die for puppies and kitties) to awesome mammals and cool reptiles. She isn't even scared of spiders and cockroaches, and if one is found at the dorm she'll be the one to capture it (but never kill, toss it outside and let it live).

【 ✕ 】: She is, however, very afraid of the dark. Dark alleys are creepy as , and if she wakes up in the middle of the night, there is a 100% chance she'll start seeing creepy faces and creatures lurking in the corners of the room.

BACKGROUND (N.)

❝ character quote. max length: one line. ❞

/ / /

It may be weird to say, but the truth was that DM was more of a family to Somyeong than the Kims ever were. And it wasn't that they were bad parents, or they didn't love her - just the simple fact that they were not the ones who raised her. DM did.

Minah as the stern mother, with rare moments of softness that had to be earned but felt twice as good. Boreal as the big brothers, distanced by the huge yet loving all the same. Aleis as the big sisters, the role models, those Somyeong looked up to and saw the stars. She would run in the halls of the mountain, child feet echoing through the halls, and know that had a family in here.

She has always been DM's little gem. One of the first trainees to join the company, only eleven-years-old at the time, all Somyeong has known her life is training. She barely saw any of Seoul - only the subway route from her home to school to the company to back home - and barely saw any of her family. But it didn't matter. She was lucky enough to pass an audition for an entertainment company, the company that had Boreal! It was a dream come true for a girl who had looked up to the dancing singers on TV since she could talk and always talked about how she was going to be in a girl group. That childlike fantasy of idoldom and everything that came with it - the glamorous outfits and stages, the prestigious events, but above all the sisterhood shared by the groups that forged unbreakable bonds - made their mark in Somyeong's head, marks so deep that even twenty-two years of age, she still can't help but feel like she's been snubbed of what is rightfully hers.

Because up until recently, everything was going exactly the way it was supposed to.

She wasn't supposed to debut in Aleis, too young for their concept and overall age, but it didn't matter. With Aleis' debut more and more trainees came, and then Somyeong was in a project group in all but name. There was no plan to debut another group in at least two years, but everyone saw that the chemistry between seven particular girls was something different entirely. There were other female trainees, of course, but these seven girls... Everyone knew they were the future of DM. And Somyeong was the sparkling gem at the very top of it.

From child acting roles to c/fs to appearances in music videos, Somyeong got enough exposure to rival Nayeon. In Minah's eyes Somyeong was the star of the show, the one meant to be an idol - she had the looks, the dedication, the hard work, and then the approachability of a growing teenager. So she had cameos, and was spotted in more videos that could be counted, and has grown to be the representative of the DM trainees, the one trainee that was famous for being a trainee. Plans for debut were set in motion, plenty of songs were recorded, a group name was even created, debut date was slated for early-to-mid 2014...

... but it didn't happen.

Somyeong can't quite explain why the debut was originally postponed to this day. BLAH BLAH BLAH WORDS TALK MORE ABOUT IT ((all the scandals + Boreals's messy departure = scared that the new girl group debuting now would only create more controversy/make them flop as a boycott?)

Delay after delay followed, more songs were recorded with the promises of "this is it, it's coming" that eventually led to nothing, and the seven girls who were the future of DM but did not feel like that at all grew more and more restless. 2015 ended and 2016 begun, and Jia left. Im Yura was added to replace the other visual, but she couldn't save what was a crumbling group. It didn't feel the same anymore, and without Jia's speeches of hopefulness and waiting for the time to come, disappointment and restlessness filled them as time went by. Six months later, Chaeyeon and Haeyeon left as well. Yeorin left in the middle of 2017, and Yura waited for 2018 to depart from the agency. And thus Somyeong's family crumbled in front of her eyes.

Even Sungkwan, who had been there with her from the very beginning, debuted in Axiz - and how ironic it was, considering she had laughed at him in 2014 and told him he should call her sunbaenim from now on - and Somyeong walked the halls her child footsteps used to echo in, and for the first time in her life saw how empty they'd become.

TRAINING YEARS : 11 years, 2008-2019

TRAINING : Training was hard, but that's nothing new. Training was lonely, at first. Not only was Somyeong one of the first trainees at DM, she was also the youngest (as Sungkwan kept courteously reminding her), and everyone else other than Sungkwan was a lot older. So while it was very nice to be pampered and doted on as DM's little princess by the rest, it was also quite lonely. She didn't have many friends in school either, with Sungkwan being the only real friend since the very beginning. They did everything together, taking their first steps in dancing, singing, acting, performing. But gradually more and more trainees around their age started pouring in, and soon training was even more fun. Somyeong had a group of friends to share her experience with, and soon Somyeong had what she considered to be her second family - the group of trainees that would later become Axiz and almost become Sirena.

Other than the core training, Somyeong was pushed a lot since the beginning, and had various cameos from music videos to dramas, as well as a bunch of CFs. She's had roughly the same predebut popularity Nayeon and Jisoo had, and was dubbed by everyone as DM's little gem.

She was meant to debut in DM's new girl group in late 2014/2015, but delay after delay pushed the debut farther and farther away. Then one of the girls left, then another. Then the debut was put on hold altogether, and then the rest of them left. But where else did Somyeong have to go? She's the Gem of DM, not the gem of someplace else.

So Somyeong stayed, and she kept training. She got a few more schedules then - mostly starring in Axiz's music video and starring in her first serious acting role, which she received criticism for and created a spiral of insecurities that ended in 15 kilograms lighter, a new hair color, and countless sleepless hours spent training harder than ever.

Gems lose their shine with time unless cared for, after all. And Somyeong wasn't going to let that happen.

It was fun and exciting and Somyeong was scared the bad response would mean she won't act in anything again.

SCANDALS :

【 DM trainee Kim Somyeong's bad acting , 2018 】: Other than being criticized for her "idol acting", Somyeong was also dissed by netizens for her chubbiness and un-idol looks. Perhaps Somyeong's acting skills were affected by the nervousness of a first role and the lackluster script and overall plot of the drama, but the netizens words rang true in her head, and she spent the next year practicing her acting and losing every inch of fat on her body.

【 MODE's Somyeong and Axiz's Sungkwan dating? 】: Look, they're not very subtle. Like at all. DM keeps denying it all the time, but they're so goddamn obvious.

Look, is it really that sad that she's more of a mother figure out Somyeong than her real mother? Probably, considering there is not a single drop of maternity in Minah's body. Probably, considering the older woman doesn't have a problem with casting her aside for a better, younger version of herself. That's, at least, Somyeong's sulky opinion on the matter. Minah's her mother and it hurts, but Somyeong doesn't want to hurt her back so she shuts up.

Her relationship with the CEO has blurred the lines of professional long ago, which makes it harder for Somyeong to accept some of Minah's decisions without taking it personally. She can't help it - Minah all but raised her in the halls of DM. It baffles her that she did all that yet still acts the way she does now.

TRAITS : sassy, an artist's soul with a sailor's mouth, basically Taeyeon

Aleis' leader took one look at eleven-year-old baby fetus Somyeong stumbling through the halls of DM, and decided that she would do everything she can so that the industry won't eat this little fetus alive. Granted, neither she nor Hyuni were particularly good at raising kids, but they tried very hard. So what if Haeyeon cursed in front of little Somsom and told her the entire unfiltered truth about the industry (and with good reason! this little girl's idea about how things worked was a bit too ized to be anything good), and sure, she was a bit annoying at first with her big eyes and big questions, but Haeyeon grew fond of that annoying little girl. They're really good friends, though the hierarchy still stands with Haeyeon being the older, knowledgable sister that guides Somyeong through life.

TRAITS : she was jangmi before Jangmi was cool

In Hyuni's defense, she always tried. It really isn't her fault that she and her soulmate are really bad moms. What did you expect? She's a y icon, how can she not talk about her stickers falling off in front of a (very impressionable) twelve-year-old? So what if she was the one who (drunkenly) slipped Somyeong her first sip/chug of alcohol - Haeyeon was too drunk to tell her no!

Where Haeyeon teaches (or fails to teach) Somyeong the valuable lessons of not giving a since everyone in this world is various levels of ty, Hyuni teaches Somyeong that life needs to be lived to the fullest, one fun thing at a time. Life is too short to think about what others would think, and there are too many things to do! She's the one that's been forcing Somyeong out of her comfort zone one "this is going to be fun I promise! trust your unnie!" at a time.

Then again, she and Haeyeon really aren't good at this parenting and teaching valuable lessons thing.

There are things to say about first impressions, and jangmi has left Somyeong gaping at a long, smooth, beautiful pair of legs, a barely covered and a dazzling smile offering "pancakes?". At the time, the diet was but a faraway idea, so of course Somyeong had three. A week later, Jangmi was already a part of the weird Axiz-Sirena family of DM. All without being a trainee herself.

They get along really well, mostly because Jangmi acts like she belongs there from day one and talks to Somyeong like they're old friends - Jia is already gone by that point, and Jangmi replaces the empty void like the shining star she is. She teaches Somyeong how to move seductively to the music and perfect the lip-bite-smolder (as perfect as Hyuni's!) The rest of Sirena all leave one by one, and even though Jangmi acts like nothing happened, at least Somyeong has someone.

Then one day she is gone too. Yura and Yeorin wonder what happened, but they leave shortly after as well. there's no calls from Jangmi, no texts messages. She doesn't answer any of Somyeong's asking where she is, and it's another piece of her heart broken and another ghost to walk the halls.

Which means the utter mind of a loud "THE QUEEN IS HERE -" filling the empty training room is,,, well, minding. As is the hastily added, "Oh hi Somyeong,"

Jangmi, being Jangmi, doesn't talk about it. There is no year-long gap in their relationship, nothing in between the last "have some pancakes" and the following "make your way for the queen". It's maddening. Their relationship is... awkward, but it's even more awkward since Somyeong is seemingly the only one who feels like it. This entire situation is probably a ticking time bomb waiting to blow up, with all of Somyeong's hurt and jealousy and loneliness coming up to bit them both in the . She can't even eat the pancakes anymore!! But Jangmi keeps shoving them and their ing delicious smell up her nose and it's getting harder and harder to resist.

There is no one worst to replace her previous groupmates that Yamada Miho, the girl that didn't want any of it. It hurts Somyeong - a deep stab in her already bleeding heart - hearing that Miho is only there because of chance, because her cousin is Misun-unnie and DM were short on trainees (yet another stab). She doesn't like Miho at first - she's prettier than Yura and speaks Korean better than Yoko, and she's even sweeter than Yeorin. She can't look at her without remembering that her being there is wrong wrong wrong.

But Miho, sweet, dear Miho. She laughs with Hanzo and smiles at Kwangho, and she tries so hard to be nice and sweet and it's hard, it's really hard to hate her and love her even with everything that she represents. Just another thing to be confused about.

Somyeong. too, has made the mistake of seeing only the outer shell of Miho, the naive, cute girl that doesn't have much else going on, and it feeds a weird desire to protect Miho from the things Somyeong has experienced herself - negative comments, disappointment, heartbreak. She doesn't understand why it's important to her, Miho is, after all, not Yoko and their relationship will never be this close. She's an imposter, they all are, but Somyeong wants to protect her all the same.

Somyeong dreamed of having fans, naturally, but she didn't think it would be like that... A pretty, stick-thin (so much thinner than Somyeong, no more food for today), starry-eyed girl looking up at her and saying "Somyeong you've worked so hard so you're gonna debut soon and be so popular and amazing!" It would've been quite charming, if it wasn't coming from the mouth of the Imposter, the replacement for Yeorin, or Haeyeon, or Chaeyeon (probably Chaeyeon, they have the same girl crush vibe to them. God, Minah really does have her types). Only this is where she was wrong. Harin wasn't a replacement for Chaeyeon. Harin was  a replacement for her.

It's obvious the moment nothing comes after Somyeong's drama, while Harin gets all of the things that were meant for her. And she wants them. She wants that web-drama because she's been training in acting for years and years and years, and she wants that CF because it was her that was the CF queen of DM. It's an ugly shade of jealousy, watching what is yours being stolen from right beneath your feet, and it poisons the mind with the thoughts that it should be her, it's hers, and Harin is nothing but a dirty thief and Minah's sick joke or punishment for whatever she's done.

Only Harin doesn't look like a dirty thief. She's funny, and easy to be around, and she means well even if it doesn't always look like it. She loves performing more than anything. She reminds Somyeong of herself, and she can see it all too clearly - Harin pushing away a plate of food, Harin reading one comment after another and tries not to cry, Harin listening to the promises of everything only for it to be taken away from her.

She's still jealous, she doesn't quite know how to not be. But it pales in comparison to Somyeong's desire to look at Harin and not see a reflection of herself. Out of all of them, she wants to protect Harin most. But she's been parented by Haeyeon and Hyuni, and she's no better at it than they are.

LOVE INTEREST: Yook Sungkwan, lead vocal and (potentially) visual of Axiz

FACECLAIM : BTOB's Sungjae

BIRTHDAY & AGE : December 29, 1996

PERSONALITY : a total , self-assured, goofy, romantic, honest,

Visuals usually have this dignified air around them, but that is not the case with Yook Sungkwan. He's a little first, a lead vocalist second, an actor third, and visual comes as an afterthought. At least in his mind.

He's never considered himself to be beautiful, despite what the public gushes and screams about, nor does he really care for it. It's almost an insult for him to be known as the visual and not for his skills and personality, if Sungkwan was one to hold grudges for long. As it is, he's very laidback about it, with his response to the phenomenon being a casual shrug and a rain of ugly selfies on instagram. He's self-assured enough not to have any insecurities when it comes to his looks and his skills, and he knows his strengths and weaknesses pretty well and doesn't shy away from neither. He's a goodass actor? yeah! But his dancing isn't as good? well yeah, he can't be good at everything!

He really is a total , but in a good way? The kind of troublemaker that's really endearing and funny, even though he can be annoying with his tiness at times. His sarcasm is usually more teasing than mean-spirited, and he's mostly just a huge troll with a goal to around with everyone for the sake of the lols, himself included.

He's a fairly honest guy, especially when he cares about you. Sometimes it's easier for him to shrug and hum through a conversation he disagrees with, but if it comes to someone he cares about he will voice his honest opinion and always encourage dialogue and constructive criticism for the sake of improving relationships. It can sometimes come off as pretentious in a high-horse sort of way, but Sungkwan always means well, even if his advice is usually easy to say but hard to do.

He's very romantic in an almost sickening way. The bigger the gesture, the better, and if there's an OST in the background that's a bonus! He loves telling people that he loves (which, considering his profession, isn't the best of things), and what's the point of making money and talking and living if you don't show the people you love how much you love them with all that. Even the way he views life is very romantic, with a touch of dramatics and tiness to make it fun.

BEFORE :

They enter the company two days apart.

He is only four days older, yet he wants her to call him Oppa. It's the most hilarious thing she's heard, but she indulges. "Oppa," she says sweetly, fluttering her eyes. "You're blocking the way."

He smiles - no, grins - as she bypasses him, swinging her backpack off her shoulder so hard it hits the mirror of the training room with a loud thud. They're best friends ever since.

They're an ill-kept secret around DM. Best friends, but everyone can see the way Somyeong blushes when he steps too close, the way Sungkwan's eyes follow her frame with fierce dedication. Both know they shouldn't, but they're fifteen and it's quite hard to know the difference between "shouldn't" and "should". He's a total about it - shameless flirting that leads nowhere, keeping her awake at night. She isn't better, with the challenging quirk of her eyebrow, and the adorably attractive way she blushes (and furiously denies it).

There are lingering touches at first, then a stolen kiss that takes Somyeong's breath away. Then there's another, and another, and then they are dating.

"We should wait." she says, knowing Minah's always watching.

"Why?" he asks, a solid argument, especially when he kisses her again.

Somyeong really wasn't much of a believer in love before Sungkwan, but she's so in love with him it's not even funny. She never thought it was possible to love someone like that, and it would've been scary if it wasn't so goddamn wonderful.

Even Minah doesn't mind the dating, indulging them so long as they're trainees and it's harmless. They get plenty of advice from everyone around the company, because they're DM's little babies. In retrospect, maybe if it was forbidden they would've learned how to be discreet.

Sungkwan is by Somyeong's side through it all, when the project group gets postponed and everyone starts leaving one by one. Then Axiz is formed to debut (Minha pulls Sungkwan aside to tell him to break things off, which he promptly ignores five minutes later) and he's there by her side even as life as an idol gets busy. He's perfect, absolutely perfect, and Somyeong doesn't understand how she got so lucky.

Then, she debuts with Mode.

LOVE STORY :

It shouldn't be different than when Sungkwan debuted with Axiz, but it is.

Minah pulls her aside and tells her that play time is over and it's time for them to breakup for real. Somyeong, hurt and angry with how she's been replaced as easily as a pair of socks, nods but promises herself that the one thing that wouldn't be taken from her is Sungkwan. Her one rebellion against her mother, her CEO, but one she intends to keep.

She tries. She really tries. But they have so many promotions and she's so tired all the time and there are five other girls she needs to care for because they're all so young and they don't know the industry like she does and they may be imposters and all wrong but she'd be damned if she'd let them suffer the way she did. There's just not enough time for Sungkwan in the middle of it. But she tries. They go on weekly dates at first, then bi-weekly. Soon monthly turn into "I'll tell you when I have space in the schedule", and then they stop talking every day.

It hurts her, but she's been busy. She doesn't have time to dwell on it like Sungkwan has. She can tell it by the pain in his eyes every time he smiles fondly at her, each smile more strained than the next, so she tries. She really tries. If there's anyone in the world she'd try for, it's Sungkwan.

But it's not enough.

"It shouldn't be like that!" he says.

"I know, I know," she does. "But I've only just debuted, of course things are busy and ty, of course things aren't working -"

"They weren't when I debuted. I made it work."

"You were never as popular as us!" she counters, and immediately regrets it. All Sungkwan can do is nod.

They don't break up, not officially. But Sungkwan doesn't call anymore, he doesn't text "good morning" or send her photos of flowers he's planning to buy her. She scrolls through her phone every night, and cries more bitterly than when Yeorin and Jia and Yura left. She can't bring herself to remove any of the things that remind her of him in her dorm, and it's a problem since all of them remind her of him. It's like walking on glass shards when she's at home, surrounded by his gifts and his letters and his photos, and it's like walking on glass shards when she's out, knowing that he's another thing that she's lost thanks to her dream.

In the rare moments when they're in the same room - during company meetings or concerts or music shows - she looks at him, and he looks at her, and she can tell that he still loves her just as much as she loves him. She tries to apologize more than once, but it never works, the words never leave right and the pained expression never manages to leave his face.

She doesn't throw away anything that reminds her of him. She keeps scrolling through the phone every night.

ENDING : Look, not gonna lie, I got waaaay to attached to these morons, so I would love a happy ending for them xD They're ride or die, but I mean they couuld die, if you have something really good planned I won't stop you evenifitwillbreakmyheart

FUN TRIVIA :

】 They're so seethrough it's not even funny. And most of the time they're barely even trying to hide their relationship. So expect a lot of rumor denial on DM's part and a lot of "Kim Somyeong and Yook Sungkwan are just very good friends".

They're also ridiculously romantic when it comes to one another, always buying each other small, meaningful gifts and flowers, or writing each other actual, physical love letters. Anything cliche, they're probably doing it - all while making fun of it and each other for doing so.

Sungkwan is a huge fan of fishing, and always tries to get Somyeong into it. But Somyeong always wants to release the fish because she feels bad.

】 They would've gotten married as quickly as possible if it was their choice, but being idols means certain things are more complicated as it is. Still, Sungkwan has this small fantasy of retiring to a house in the middle of nowhere (but with wifi!) by the sea so he could fish, with only their grandkids knowing the directions so that they could come to eat until they're dead.

PASSWORD: She's going to adore Peekaboo, for obvious reasons, but Automatic is going to have a soft spot. She also really loves Highlight, Breakdown, Show, I Need U, Love Foolish, Wow Thing, Satelite, and Butterflies (and by her I mean me xD I love all of these and the discography in general)
