I GOT ROBBED AT MY FIRST KPOP EVENT IN COLOMBIA.

Buckle up kids, wild ride ahead.

So basically, I was on my way to a KPOP event - my very first one too I might add - in a small town called Tunja here in Colombia.

Oh... also if you don't know I am living in Colombia right now (I'm interning for an environmental/cultural interchange/program thing).

Anyway!

I went with my girl Paula and took a bus there. I was so excited because not only would I meet other KPOP fans, but I'd also get a chance to speak Spanish/English/and maybe Korean.

So we arrive to the event, and I step off the bus onto the sidewalk. Ten seconds later I'm approached by a dirty looking, smelly older gentleman. He says something along the lines of "Excuse me, I don't mean to bug you, but..." in really hard to understand Spanish. My Spanish is still in the beginner realm, so I was trying hard to listen carefully. (I'm naive and have a soft spot for the homeless, I should have just said no thanks and walked away though.)

Anyway, his friend was behind me (another homeless man) and was touching my bag/satchel that had my money/items/cell in. So basically I was being pick-pocketed. My friend Paula grabbed me and yanked my arm away from them, and we walked away. She saved my .

About ten minutes later we arrive at the Hallyu event. There are about fifty people there, most are locals, pretty sure I was the only person who was a foreigner. Anyway, I was buying some Jimin socks (they're suuuuper cute btw) and I had my phone with me, when I realzied I didn't have enough money on me (it was in Paula's backpack), I went back to the table to retrieve more from here.

In the span of time it took me to go from the front of the place back to my table my phone disappeared. I don't know if I was pick-pocketed again or what, but I had the MC stop the event and had like 20 people looking for my phone and it was NO WHERE to be found. It's an iPhone 6S, so not like an ~amazing~ phone or whatever, but it's pretty decent. Especially in Colombia.

Anyway, they couldn't find it and I ended up leaving the event with out a phone ughghghghghghhhh.

So, now I'm phoneless and sad. But I return to Canada next week and am hoping to buy a new one.

Omg thats really scary and dangerous. I'm glad that you're safe. No matter what I think your safety comes first. Money and cell phone you can still slowly earn . Take good care and be more careful in the future

Sounds like an absolutely nightmare. Why on earth are people out to steal from others?! Stay in school, get a job and work for your money and BUY things you need for yourself. RIP.

i'm so sorry fam. i'm from a latinoamerican country and pickpocketers are everywhere so i wasn't surprised to hear your story but it's still a shame you couldn't enjoy the event to the fullest. i hope you still remember colombia in a positive light and had a good time though :)
