AUTOTELIC BASSIST : LIM SOYEON
BEHIND THE STAGE
PERSONALITY TRAITS :
(pos) calm, flexible, humble, loyal, thorough
(neu) absentminded, conservative, noncompetitve, self-conscious
(neg) anxious, bland, delicate, repressed, submissive
ELABORATION :
"Oh yeah that's fine. I don't mind, really I don't."
Soyeon is a calm soul, and because of that is typically the peacemaker in any group she's in. When a problem arises she's the one who will listen objectively and give her opinion based on that. Although internally she might be freaking out, someone has to keep the peace on the outside and well its something taht she has a kanck for. At least to remind everyone else that they're adults and to at least try and use their brains a litle. She is also quite flexible and has no problem changing around her own schedule if it'll help someone else. She can adapt easily to different situations and will act accordingly to them. Soyeon spent a lot of her time working around others so now it naturally comes to her, but she doesn't ever seem to mind it. She is also extremely humble. She isn't one to show off or boast about her accomplishments, rather prefering to keep it a low profile to keep the attention off of her. She genuinely gets surprised when she's complimented on something, never seeming to expect it although the work she puts in is quite obvious. Above all else she is extremely loyal to those close to her. She has a tendency to believe her friends and family before someone she doesn't know. She also sees the best in them and would do absolutely anything for them.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! It completely slipped my mind."
When it comes to work or her music, Soyeon is one hundred and ten percent thorough. She completes everything she starts and makes sure it was completed to the best of her ability. Even after first walking away from a composition that had given her a tough time, she will always come back to it and finish it, even if it means that she has to start over from scratch. However because of this extreme focus and concentration, she becomes absentminded in everything else. Plans are sometimes forgotten, along with meals, and sometimes even sleep. Especially when it comes to her music, nothing else will matter and will be shoved off into the back of her mind and will only be remembered either when she's done or if someone else reminds her. Soyeon is also rather reserved and conservative, prefering to be in the background than out front and center. She doesn't talk much about herself, or a lot in general, mostly staying quiet and letting everyone else around her do most of the speaking. But if there is one thing that Soyeon embodies it's how noncompetitive she is. She honestly cannot comprehend people who are just so competitve that it can consume them. If someone tries to make it a competition she will immediately take several steps back.
"What? Me? There is absolutely no way I can do that!"
Soyeon is seriously self-conscious. She questions every one of the decisions that she makes, and then second guesses it again. Even after getting validation she still can't seem to completely accept it, and there will still be that nagging feeling making her wonder if it truly was the right choice. Since she is constantly questioning and wondering she can also be quite anxious. She tends to be uneasy about everything and second guesses herself on multiple occassions. She is a worrywart and asks constantly if it's truly such a good idea or if she should really be doing this. It can get to a point where she will actually worry herself sick over something that she shouldn't be. Once people get past the retro-style clothing, red hair, and that she plays a turqiouse sparkled bass they say that Soyeon is actually a pretty bland person. They see the outside but once they talk to her and see she doesn't talk much or shows her passionate side, many become bored and think that she really doesn't have much personality. Even when onstage, it seems that she's just there filling a spot and the clothes are just there as a way to put up a facade.
"N-no, I'm fine I swear."
Despite being calm and the peacemaker, she's actually quite the delicate person. If someone says something offhanded, didn't even mean anything by it, and Soyeon will let that one small commet get to her and nag at her until she cannot take it anymore. She also tends to get sick a lot because she is also phsyically delicate. It's a running joke that she's always sick because she never goes outside and so when she does she's a beacon to all the germs. But it could also be because she just worries herself into sickness, only Soyeon knows for sure. Soyeon is also regretful about how she keeps herself so closed off, and wants to show more of herself but can't seem to bring herself to do it. Declining offers to go out with friends, not spending more time with her family, closing herself off, she honestly regrets all of them but she also cannot bring herself to break out of the bubble that she had made for herself. It's the thing that she regrets the most, and feels repressed since she doesn't have the slightest clue on how to fight it. That mostly has to do with the fact that she's submissive and is a pushover when it comes to everyone else in her life. Even if she doesn't necessarily want to do it, she still will because it was asked of her.
BACKGROUND :
Lim Soyeon was born into a pretty well off family in Seoul South Korea. Her father was a counselor and her mother was an artist. She had an easy life growing up, being an only child she was doted on a lot especially by her father. She did take it for granted mostly but appreciated them immensely. Who else could say that they were able to make a mess with paint when they were younger? She had an easy school life, studied and kept her grades up, but didn't have may friends. She was definitely the kind to stick to herself and kept her nose in her books. The only thing that really seemed to bring her out was music. She loved all kinds, though indie was definitely her favorite. She was also always interested in the composition aspect of music, how the imstruments messed together to create a beautiful blended sound, each having their own moment without being overpowering. Soyeon was enthralled by it, and when she had chosen to major in music composition her parents supported it wholeheartedly. They were happy to see their quiet and reserved daughter inspired and passionate about it that the couldn't bring themselves to say anything but yes.
So that's exactly what Soyeon did, chosing to go to Seoul National University since it had an amazing music school. She of course was worried if going to such a pretigous school was the best option since she would be going with so many other, probably more amazing students, but she had already passed the tests and registered for her classes so of course it was too late for any second guessing now. It was her first day of class when she had first met Chanyeol. He was everything she wasn't, outgoing, fun, and had people drawn to that positive energy. If anyone had told Soyeon back then that the two of them would be best friends just a short few months later, she would have laughed at the absurd notion. It was a little while later in her freshman year that a few of the students were getting a band together. It had peaked her interest but she didn't actually have any plans of thinking about joining. She didn't sing, and barely knew how to play bass, after a few lessons when she was younger and begged her parents to give her lessons but gave up after some time. So when none other than her seatmate Chanyeol was talking about how he had joined said band, as the drummer, and that they have been looking for someone to play bass, she let it slip out that she played for a little while when she was in high school. He immediately brightened up and said she had to play it in the band. Of course Soyeon tried to explain that she hadn't played it in at least a year, and that she wasn't any good, but that didn't mean anything and he said it was fine and that's what practice is for.
That was how Soyeon first joined the band Autotelic. She first only did it because someone was needed and though she wasn't the best bassist in the world, she would be lying if she said she didn't have a lot of fun. It felt like she was a part of something and though she didn't say it out loud she really loved every minute of it. It was also during this time that she got a lot closer to Chanyeol. They were complete opposites but that's what made them mesh so well together. She got along pretty well with the other bandmates, though even if Chanyeol was there to make sure she stayed included, she felt like an outsider. So when Sunjin had finally convinced his best friend to join the band as their new bassist, Soyeon wasn't surprised that she was pushed to the side, and she let it happen. She was still able to partake in band practice and if something happened she was there to step in when needed. She told herself that she didn't mind, Sungjin's friend was the obvious choice since they were clearly the better player, even if it did hurt a little bit. Of course Chanyeol tried to do something even suggesting that the two alternate, but Soyeon again stepped aside saying it was fine and that she didn't mind.
It was a bit of a shock at the end of their sophmore year and Yuna said she was leaving the band, which ultimately led to the disbandment of the entire band. Soyeon didn't really have a lot of thoughts on it, since she hadn't really been a true part for a while now. She didn't really keep in touch with everyone else, except of course Chanyeol. Not only did they share a lot of classes, having the same major, but he made a point to seek her out so she couldn't fall back completely into her shell. He was there for her through her father's passing at the start of their junior year, and made sure she kept playing bass, saying he had to have someone to practice with, and that it would be such a shame for her not to play that beautiful bass her father had gotten for her birthday. She wasn't sure exactly when she had fallen in love with him, but it was becoming increasingly harder for her to not to give anything away, which was more difficult when he could read her like a book. She was a er when it came to him, and so when the news came out that Yuna had started her own band Soyeon was not surprised to see Chanyeol come up to her before their afternoon class eyes blazing and told her that Sungjin and him were restarting the band, then asked her to be their bassist again what was she going to say? Of course, despite not wanting to get involved with the obvious fight that was going to go down between the two bands, she looked into Chanyeol's and said yes.

• at the start of their senior year Chanyeol convinced Soyeon to dye her hair red while he dyed his a pale blonde, almost white. said that it would be the best way to start their last year of school and make a statement. she still feels taht it draws a lot of attention to her, attention that she doesn't want, but she does really like the color.

AUDIENCE INTERACTION
RELATIONSHIPS :
• NLIM ILSUN : 48 (deceased) : father : 10/10 (face: lee byunghyun)
— soyeon was definitely a daddy's girl. she went to him for everything, plus it helped he was a counselor so talking to him was super easy. they did all kinds of things together, even after he got sick. although he didn't get better he did whatever he could for his family and made sure they would be okay before passing on. she still goes to visit his grave every sunday.
• LIM NAYOUNG : 46 : mother : 9/10 (face: choi jiwoo)
— soyeon is super close with her mom. they always spend one night a week together whether it's doing puzzles or crafts or just sitting around watching a movie. soyeon knows that her mom has to work more to support them both so soyeon tries to help out by cleaning the house and making dinner whenever she has free time.
• PARK SUNGJIN : 21 : Friendly : 7/10
— soyeon has nothing but respect for sungjin, she knows it couldn't have been easy for him to learn that not only yuna but his best friend started up this new band and he had no idea. she also sees what he does for their own band and its hard not to give him credit. she can't help but wonder though if he was truly on board with her becoming their bassist when him and chanyeol dediced to reform the band or if it was just because there was no one else. she makes sure to work hard though so that she doesn't end up messing things up.
• KWON YUNA : 21 : Acquaintances : 3/10
— even while she was a major part of the band for those first few months she wasn't super clsoe to yuna. there was this aura that definitely read off as "dont mess with me" and so that's what soyeon did. she admired the girl's talent and though she doesn't know exactly went down between her and sungjin she also holds no ill will towards the other girl. they still don't talk or run in the same circle but will greet the other politely when paths cross.
• BLOOMFIELDS BASSIST : 21 : Acquaintances : 2/10
— her better replacement. soyeon honestly has no ill will towards the other bassist. she accpted that they were better and sungjin was their best friend so she understood why they were chosen. she does however still feel that she is still the lessor of the two, and can't help but wonder if it wasn't for the fact that they chose to go with yuna and that chanyeol was so adimant about her joining if she would have even been in the runnng for the position.
RECRUITMENT INTERVIEW
01 : how is your current relationship with your bandmates?
What about with the other band?
• Soyeon blinks and scratches her head slightly, thinking and choosing her words carefully before speaking. "My relationship with my bandmates is good I would say. I've been friends with Chanyeol for years, so my relationship with him is really good. Our leader Sunjin is a good guy and really works hard for the band and us members, I honestly respect him for it." She pauses again at the mention of the other band and shrugs. "I know Yuna. She's pretty nice, though we never really hung out, and their bassist is really good."
02 : what do you think of the whole rivalry thing?
• A quiet sigh escapes her lips before she could stop herself and lets out a small awkward laugh in a futile atempt to hide it. "If I were to be completely honest I don't really have an opinion on it. I'm here because my friend asked me to, everything else is just an afterthought."
03 : what is the meaning of the band to you?
• "What is the meaning of the band to me?" Soyeon repeats the question before going back into a deep thought, almost too deep, and shakes her head pushing stray red strands out of her face. "The band is a means of escape. It allows me to explore music in ways that I couldn't imagine before." I also get to spend more time with Chanyeol. She thought, although she would never state out loud.
