NaNoWriMo... On Crack???

First off, I know it’s only August right now, but yay for planning ahead, so…

I’M DOING NANOWRIMO THIS YEAR!!!!*

*with modifications. Lots and lots and lots of modifications.

In case you haven’t encountered it before, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, which is November. A popular challenge is for writers to set a goal of writing a 50,000 word manuscript in the month of November, which is both difficult and rewarding in a lot of ways. It’s a great exercise to stimulate creativity and to build discipline and strong writing habits, and I would absolutely love to participate.

However, I know for a fact I will be busier than I have ever been this November. Also, there are a couple things I’d like to add/modify regarding the traditional NaNoWriMo challenge. Therefore!

nyamnyamnyam attempts...

KINDA-SORTA-NANOWRIMO ON CRACK 2K18!

A CRACKFIC A DAY (KEEPS YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AWAY)!

A (HOPEFULLY) LOW STRESS AND (RELATIVELY) BEGINNER-FRIENDLY WRITING CHALLENGE!

In this hastily cobbled together challenge, there is only one rule: you must post a crackfic (or a new chapter in an ongoing crackfic) every day of November. Updates may be pre-written if you know you’ll be too busy in November, or you can challenge yourself to write and update every day in November.

There are no word count minima or maxima. You can write for whatever fandom you want and in any genre (as long as crack is included). You can write these chapters whenever, wherever you want, as long as you post at least one each day in November.

In case you’re curious, I’m doing this for a couple reasons:

  1. I have a crackfic idea and want an excuse to write it XD
  2. I have a bad habit of dragging fics or taking too long to figure things out, so hopefully the time constraint will force me to keep things tight.
  3. Crack is such an underrepresented genre on AFF in my opinion, and I’d love to see more of it out there. And as they say, if you want to read it, write it.
  4. Crack and humor are deceptively difficult to sustain for long stretches. Some of my readers may have noticed that my crackfics and humorous stories are all under twenty chapters, and that’s because humor sags and drags like nothing else. A saggy middle is always a lurking threat for any story, but humor can really fall flat after the first few chapters if an author doesn’t know exactly what they’re doing. I’d quite like to improve at this, personally.
  5. I just… don’t have time for a full 50k NaNoWriMo challenge, sadly. Some of you already know this, but I’m basically double majoring in fields that don’t overlap in terms of class requirements at all, and I’ve got music and work on top of that, so this year will be busy. Writing 50k in November would just be too much to handle or remotely enjoy, and being able to pre-write updates before November will reduce a lot of stress.

If you’re also a crackfic lover and looking to polish up your humor-writing skills, feel free to join in on the challenge! Please PM me if you do though, because I’d love to read your story :)

Anyway! Here’s the fic I’ll be completing this challenge for:

War of the Worlds (Kyungsoo-centric)

On Saturday night, he goes to bed as Do Kyungsoo, main vocalist of award-winning boy group EXO. On Sunday morning, he wakes up the only sane person in the world. At least, that’s what he’s led to believe when a bloody fan war of epic proportions erupts between idols over whose fans are the best for seemingly no reason at all. Features multifandom references, an otter named Neem, and keyboard warriors who hurl weaponized computer keyboards with the force of ten thousand throwing stars.

Click the Choo-Chooyeol (either one) to subscribe so you get a notification when I start posting! (And thank you to imrapunzel for creating the… oh-so-gorgeous story poster. It’s really for Of Labs and Love Songs, but I figured… hey, crack here, crack there? Who cares?)

Omg I did something like this during the summer! In June and July, I wrote 50k words in those months (for a total of 100k). It was really satisfying to do so much, and I’m glad you’re doing it!! I might do this too :-D
Good luck!!!!!
