"first Non-korean K-PoP group" Rant but not really...

Hi!

I was scrolling on insta when I saw this post. Now I have know about this group for a while but the title of this vice artivle just urked me.

Ok so I have known about them since they debut, but never interested me. This whole thing urked me for several reason.

1. the title claims that they are the first non-korean group urked me. Well I get that they are the first ALL non korean group, i feel like the title implies that generally kpop only has koreans which is obviously not the case, as we all know there are multiple groups with non-korean members such as got7 and many others. So that irked me.

2. They freaking call themselves a Kpop group. Well for me i get they sing in Korean and wadda wadda. But for me, to be able to call yourself a kpop group you have to go through an intense path of auditions, training compition and the only debut and then work you but off with promotions and music shows in order to be called a Kpop group. So it annoys me that Vice finds them 'cool or interesting' enough to write an article just because they are "the first non korean group" which under that specifc title I find fault in (see point 1)

Look at then end of the day... I agree with the person who posted this on IG in terms of the regular boy band thing... Like I get it you sing in korean... But you guys are not a Kpop group in my opionion. Like i want to know what you guys think? I really don't know much about this group in terms of details but I feel that is group was a flop but now that the western world has opened up to kpop, they are trying to use that to their advantage.

At the end of the day I can't say I hate them or anything... But I kind of wish they didn't use the 'kpop group' to promote them selves... But mainly hate Vice's wording of their title.

Tell me your thoughts?

(ps... I hope that if there are fans of theirs here, don't hate me I am jsut stating my Thoughts.)

So I see that my previous comment didn't post and I'm too lazy to type the whole thing again but basically I think that there's nothing wrong with the band itself I don't find them interesting or anything, but I don't think they should be advertised as first non-korean kpop band. I understand that it is a strategy to get them noticed but I don't think they are trained to be idols the way other kpop groups are. I am making an assumption here, but I don't believe they went through what the current kpop idols had to go through...hours and hours of audition and then practising dancing and singing or rapping for almost the entirety of their youth while other people their age go out and play. All of this just training and there's still the doubt of debut... The trainees go through a lot just to debut and I don't believe they went through the same level of challenges. I have watched one of their videos and to be honest they didn't interest me so maybe I am simply biased

I've never listened to them and I'm not interested in them at all but honestly they don't deserve all the hate they get. The group was created by a korean woman as a school project (iirc). And even though they're not korean the fact that they sing in korean would make them a kpop group. Because what else would they be considered? A pop group that sings in korean? So basically kpop.
