Eternal Love 三生三世十里桃花

Trying to see if there are any fans here.

If you are fans of Chinese historic fantasy style drama, you will love this drama.  This drama is adapted from a novel (that is supposedly copied from a boylove novel but I won't go through that controversy).  So although the clothing style is historical, there's no historical context to the drama and it's purely fantasy focused on immortals.  If you read comics, there's a chance you might have seen this story under the name Ten Miles of Peach Blossom.  That is somewhat the literal translation of 十里桃花.  I saw somewhat because 里(li) is actually an ancient chinese unit of measure, which is approximatley 500m, so it's not really a mile.  And 三生三世 is three world three lives, which really just broadly means eternal, and you can kinda see throughout the story that the main characters overcome various trials for their love, so they do literally almost go through almost 3 rounds of it under different circumstances.

The cast is amazing, consisting of Yang Mi, Mark Zhao as the main stars acting as Bai Qian and Ye Hua.  I wasn't 100% fond of voice acting in drama because it feels like you can't get to know the actor/actresses personally, but the voices they chose for the main female, male and female antagonist and supporting female role are 100% compatible.  But really the cast are all pretty good looking, even the supporting cast.  You'll note that some of the same cast end up in another 2018 drama called The Flame's Daughter (Lie Huo Ru Ge), mainly Dilraba (Feng Jiu), Zhang Bin Bin (Li Jing), Zhang He (Ling Yu), Dai Si (Yang Zhi), Liu Rui Lin (Zi Lan/Disciple #16), Lai Yi (Die Feng/Disciple #1/Da Shi Xiong).

The acting is superb.  The male is supposed to be very beautiful, you wouldn't think Mark Zhao to be beautifully handsome but he acted his role so well people who were unhappy about his appearance initially compared to their expectation from the novel have called him the only Ye Hua.  Even actor Yang Yang who's visually exceptional and can pull of the long hair look cannot compared to Mark's Ye Hua.

The story is superb.  It has corrected some parts of the book, partly to censor some hints of homoual relationships, but to mainly make Ye Hua and Bai Qian even better than in the book.  The book was written from Bai Qian's point of view whereas the drama has elaborated on Ye Hua's point of view and expanded on it.  Also the book is not in linear order and starts in the middle of the timeline where as the drama is in chronological order.  So technically episode 30 or so is like the start of the book.

I highly urge everyone to watch this drama.  If you have watched Wei Wei Yi Xiao Hen Qing Cheng, you'd recognize that K.O. is Li Jing in this drama, and Zheng Shui Wu Xiang (for some reason only remembered his game alias but his name might Shao Xiang?) is Ling Yu (Disciple #9).  This show was so popular that the side characters Feng Jiu (acted by Dilraba Dilmurat) and Dong Hua Di Jun (Gao Wei Guang) will have their own drama starring them called 三生三世枕上书 (currently literally named Three Lives, Three Worlds, The Pillow Book) that is likely to air in 2019.

Watched it. Love it! Even the movies. Both version, I adored the little dumplings so much. The movies is really tacky though, their costumes but my god Yang Yang and Liu Yi Fei looks stunning. Though nothing beats the Drama's OST. Also their script is better, I guess since Yang Mi hired someone to fill in the plotholes of the novel? Overall, it was satisfying to watch. I just wished the Jade Emperor gets a punishment, dude is just... ugh.
