My Kpop Life In High School

Having known korean stuffs for almost a decade is an experience that I will never trade with anything. The reason why I'm writing this is because I'm once again reminded of how my life was 8 years ago.

I'm only 20 years old and most of my workmates are in their late 20's but most of them have just started knowing korean stuffs such as K-music, Kpop, K-artists, and K-dramas. Sometimes during breaks I would usually see them fonding over korean artists that they like, they would usually talk of how good-looking they were and hoping they could see them in person.

I have one co-worker who's such a huge fan of BTOB she would casually talk of them, about their music and about her bias, Changsub, there was a never a day that I never heard of her saying good things about her favorite group and I, at the back of my mind would admire her of being such an open person. I do understand her fondness as I used to be her 8 years ago but not as open as she could.

Eight years ago, korean stuffs weren't really a big thing, openly talking about it in public would make you a laughing stock, people would find it very weird when they hear you sing their indecodable songs. I had one experience during our Christmas Party when my classmate brought the CD that I asked her to be "burnt" it had all my choice of songs, of course all of them were korean music, I played one and I really enjoyed listening to it when one of my guy classmates said, "Please, play a song that everybody can understand" I was offended by the act that until now I can still remember it. Good thing that was in high school where finding someone who has the same interest as mine was like looking for a diamond in an open field.

True, now there are more people being open to kpop for its music and dont say “we cnt understand so why listen to it”. Glad that the world is changing its perception for good! <3
