「♥」 as much as some members love to pretend they debuted with "0330" and others with "on and on", you cannot erase one to two years of your group history only because these years were truly embarrassing. yes orion early songs and concepts were miles away from what they're known and praised for today and yes it was cringy but hey it was quite common back then. orion quickly got overshadowed by beast and mblaq —even more because they had no famous ties (like jyp ent, 4minute or rain)— and in a desperate move the group's image took a 180° turn. (on&on and hyde almost never happened because of 0330. the song was just a digital single released as a small thank you gift —it had a mv but no promotionial performances— yet it catched the public interest and charted way higher than all their previous singles. it truly made the company hesitate but orion comeback was already scheduled and ready so they went for it.)
orion rocked darker and more mature concepts as if they were born for it. they won their first award two years and eight months after debut with "voodoo doll" and their popularity skyrocked with "chained up" in 2013. they enjoyed two years of steady fame (although jihwan past scandal and jiho dating scandal did tank their popularity a little). unfortunately seungmin, jaeyeob and taeseob got in a serious car accident in january 2016. taeseob suffered from minor injuries but the other two needed physiotherapy. seungmin never recovered fully and he left the group in november 2016, when the pain became too hard to bear, both physically and mentally. he actually didn't renew his contract but the agency respected his wish to make it official only after the group's 7th anniversary.
[orion's current overall popularity would be comparable to vixx, maybe even lower, with the difference that orion is older and has more recognition from the general public. they clearly don't sell as much as they used to do, their fandom is smaller but people know the name. many fans left for newer groups during the hiatus and seungmin was the 2nd most popular; he had the most individual fans and a majority left with him. oh and, even at their peak they were trendy but never at the level of shinee/infinite/beast.]
「♥」 as for his individual career, jihwan was promoted a lot during their debut years. fans simply adored him. he was the most comfortable off stage / on shows / with fans, he was friendly, sweet, refreshing. he had the brightest smile and he'd tease and flirt jokingly with fans just because he fount it cute to see them all frustered. if fans wanted more jihwan then the company would happily oblige.
