name. 강규호, kang gyuho.

nicknames.

✧ 뀨, ggyu. a cute and affectionate nickname just for lazing around or for fun. this one is more likely to be used by the older generation, and attached to the end of it would be a phrase like "honey, can you please fetch this from the supermarket for our neighbour?"

✧ 와규, wagyu. gyuho's an avid meat enthusiast, wagyu coincidentally being his favourite. so naturally, a nickname would develop from such enthusiasm. many of his friends just call him it for fun and as a greeting. you know, something like "yo, wagyu!" when they see him.

✧ 김규호. it would appear that 2/3 of gyuho's most commonly used nicknames have an association with food. it's not uncommon for people to introduce or call gyuho, kim gyuho, rather than his real name kang gyuho due to his everlasting affection for kimchi. fun fact, most people save his name on their phone as kim gyuho rather than kang gyuho and get so used to referring to him as 'kim' that they're often confused as to which one his real surname is.

✧ korean. as one would expect from someone who was born and raised in south korea, gyuho is fluent in his mother tongue.

✧ english. learning a language was compulsory at the middle and high schools he had attended and between japanese, mandarin, cantonese and english, he decided to learn english. however, the moment he graduated, gyuho ceased his language acquisition. regardless, his six years of studies have led him to being able to sustain a (very) basic conversation with only the occasional stumble.

appearance. nothing too different from his faceclaim, tbh, especially in regards to his hair. gyuho's currently rocking that floppy mop that makes lots of older women raise their fist in anger since all they want to do is cut it all off. it annoys him slightly, too, but it would appear that he prioritises appearance over practicality. or maybe he's just too lazy to cut it off???

style. simply put, gyuho has a dual closet. on the one hand, he likes to dress like he's got more money than he actually has, with sleek dress shirts and pants. alternatively, he's got hoodies and caps and random band t-shirts. there's really no in between.

personality. if one were to describe kang gyuho as anything, he'd most likely be called a cat. in a nutshell, he's simultaneously independent in most scenarios yet dependent on parental figures for safety, comfort and nurturing, observant, lazy, a bit feisty and dryly witty and sarcastic. he's one of those guys who hates conflict and is more into keeping things constant and calm over exploring new and exciting things. unfortunately, his tendency to prefer the dull grey hues, composure and consistency, also makes him one of the more skittish ones when caught in a more colourful situation, completely trying to avoid any form of conflict even when one would note it as necessary and helpful in the long run. put simply, there are a lot of unsolved issues that can lead to unconscious grudges and pent up annoyance and frustration when it comes to dealing with gyuho. luckily, he's quite the laidback and lazy guy for the most part, so it's not often that you'll have to confront the guy or make a mess of his uniform canvas. gyuho's extremely observant and analytical, and will often opt for listening rather than conversing. in a situation calling for a variety of thoughts and views, it's easy for him to be granted with silence and attention simply by opening his mouth to offer his opinion. yet somehow, some would still describe gyuho as being quite talkative all round. i guess it comes down to the fact that his personality and attitude all depends on who he's with, just as it does for many others. it is definitely easy to talk to him (if you approach him first) and his outer layer is very friendly and amiable, if not just the teensiest bit bashful and shy. it is quite a lot harder, however, to uncover more layers and reach the wit and dry sense of humour that lies within.

at the same time that he's very openminded and accepting of opinions on things that he doesn't really have views on, if someone directly attacks and questions his opinions, gyuho will get very defensive and can sulk a fair bit. he's stubborn and obstinate in that aspect, and a situation as such would most probably be the closest gyuho will get to engaging in conflict. well, technically, it is conflict, but he justifies it to himself as a slightly heated discussion, or rather, he's unaware that others would classify it as such. he's someone who, though analytical and snarky, is actually more ruled by his heart than his head. so even if he's head's strongly telling him not to do it, he'll still probably do it. gyuho's generally got no opinions on rules, i.e. he doesn't necessarily mind them and still believes that some are indeed necessary. but, in the case that someone close to him is threatened by said rules or it harms them, he wouldn't mind breaking the law a little bit. rather than just sympathising and pitying people, he's hugely empathetic and feels other people's pains greatly, usually through a little pang in his heart so common that he's able to quickly acknowledge it. he tries to be extremely careful with his words and actions around people he's not at least 80% close to (he has his own personal scale, btw), always holding himself back from hurting others.. over 80%,, that's another story. (mr sarcastic and blunt comes out then). gyuho is very aware of his surroundings and you can tell just how careful he is around other people. unfortunately, it can also be annoying as they often feel as if he's not baring himself for the world to see and that he comes across as secretive and reserved. at the same time that he's very careful, gyuho's also got a bit of a dry sense of humour and is highly witty and sarcastic, a product of his straightforward and blunt nature. this side of him is also not intended to hurt others, but it does indeed have the ability to, especially if he misjudges his level of closeness or lets his guard slip ever so slightly.

background. growing up, gyuho's had a very uneventful childhood. one of those seriously stereotypical normal families your parents tell you about as they complain to you "why can't you be more like tom?! he's got good grades and he's good at sports!" and to each other, "when will you take me out on another date? sue's husband takes her out every wednesday night!" but really, that's how he grew up. gyuho had good grades, was good at sports and looked pretty good, too. his mum and dad have stable jobs, a chef and dentist respectively, and he'd have the typical regular argument with his older sister. it was the very typical nuclear family. as his sister is eight years older, she married and had her first kid while gyuho was still in high school. so, he would often babysit his niece and look after her while the two sets of adults would go to formal dinners together. it was a very very average childhood.

life outside the house. up until now, gyuho's been living in his family's home all the way down in mokpo. unfortunately, as his university is located in seoul, he's had to deal with a three hour commute day in and day out, combined with ridiculously long school hours and annoyingly irregular train schedules. after two years of leaving home at 4am and returning at 11pm, he's finally reached the capacity of his patience. so, he went scouring seoul in search of affordable housing options. stumbling upon a 'for rent' sign, he was delighted to find this little house. unfortunately, the price was a bit out of his range. but honestly, it shouldn't be rented out for so much given that it's so tiny and almost at the point where it could be described as run-down. after a little while, he realised it was really the only option and opted for it anyway. after discussing with the landlord, the idea of sharing it with others came up and voila, here we are. gyuho's entering his third year as a biology and psychology major for a behavioural neuroscience degree at the well-known konkuk university. given that he doesn't have much money, doesn't want to rely on his parents, and has to deal with high schooling fees, he's got a part time job at a nearby cafe called 'cherry beans'. without the six-hour total daily commute, he suddenly has a lot more time to work and study. the schedule below is relatively subject to change.

gyuho's older sister is eight years his senior but that never stopped them from endless arguments and whining. they did get along well, though, and this relationship followed them throughout their lives. they trust and love each other very much, as one would hopefully expect, with gyuho often babysitting eunhyun's daughter, chaewon.
