ELABORATION —

• " i'm not really the person you know me to be "

the first thing you need to know from dayoung is that she's a person who you would consider as a 'mask-user'. not that she's fake or two-faced, but she likes to keep things to herself--what she sees, what she knows of--and assessed the situation based on her own thoughts--which means she can get it all wrong. her exterior shows that she's a calm and collected person when in the inside, she is full of rampaging emotions. if her classmates glance at her at the right moment, they might catch her smiling, frowning and even huffing on her own. besides, not all of the information she gathered from observing is good to her.

it's not that dayoung is picky over people who can be friends with her, but she has her own list of who's-in and who's-out. mostly, people who's sharp-tongued is in her who's-out list. she just can't stand watching them hurting people's feelings with their moody self and oh-so-mighty attitude. although the downside of this attitude of dayoung is that she judges everyone however she likes. she wouldn't say that to other people, but she silently labels everyone in her mind--the friendly, the snob, the flirt--whichever it is, it's based on her view only, and mostly from the first impression they gave on her. that doesn't mean she would label them as that forever, though.

• " hey, don't think i don't about your crush on him "

with keen eyes and not much words, dayoung has almost all of her classmates' secrets in her hand. not because all of them willingly told her, no--even some of them are not that close to her. she was just at the perfect time and a perfect place. it was all coincidence. having someone's secret with her is somehow fun to her, she will observe how her classmates try to keep their own secrets.

but not all of their secrets are nice. in a case, the secret hurts her too.

• " it's okay, i'll take care of it "

being born as the first child made her feel responsible to things around her, mostly her things. she likes keeping her table and bed neat. she spent her spare time arranging back her books and stationaries on her desk, also her wardrobe, basically everything. but when she's tired, she tend to let her things being messy. in her busiest days, she could let her room messy up to 5-6 days before arranging it again.

not just her things, she also takes care of her friends. if she sees her friend hungry, she will try to help her by buying her snacks and even drinks. if they're sad, she will try to comfort them although comforting is not her forte, she would just hug them and tell them it's going to be okay. due to this, she likes it when her friends rely onto her, whatever it is, she'll try to do it to meet their expectation.

this personality makes her easily falls for younger boys. be it immature ones, she likes taking care of them. she likes giving them her experience that they never experienced due to her being older. the rate of her falling for younger boys are higher than older boys. she has to admit that she easily crush on someone, but it usually disappears after 3 or 4 months. it's not like she'll do anything to get them closer to her, she's just observing them and it's enough.

• " no no no, i'm not miss perfect "

dayoung hates it when people do things that's not up to her expectation. because of this, she usually do most of the work herself although it burden her. she just can't stand seeing things being done not like her favor. dayoung might not directly tell them she dislikes their work, but she surely will remember their mistake forever. oh, and also, she will be quite upset when she lost her things. good thing that she can control her temper well.

having dayoung to have a bad impression at you is not a good thing. if you make a mistake, she will remember it each time she lands her eyes on you, despite her not saying it to you. that doesn't mean she will forever bad-judged you though. she just remembers. dayoung is the type that people call as 'revengeful', but the quiet one.

• " who says i like him? no of course i don't! wait i didn't mean i don't like him- "

you might think she's a perfect self-keeper girl, unfortunately, she's not. without her can even control it, she sometimes blab things that she didn't even want to say. sometimes it's a random thing, but sometimes it's also contradicting to the words she actually meant. dayoung would blab about how nice the road feels like, the uneven bricks on a house, and other random things.

if someone caught her off guard, she would definitely blab unexpected things that contradicted the actual meaning. she usually regrets saying that a mili-second later.

her friends think that her blabbing is kind of cute. at first it was unexpected since she seemed so collected when they're just acquintances. when dayoung feels like it, she would also joke around, and it would catch them off guard because she usually just laughed at their jokes and not the one throwing it.

BACKGROUND + EVERYDAY LIFE —

• at the early hours of 21st february in 1998, dayoung was born. being the first child, she has a big responsibility to be her younger sister's lead role--meaning she can't mess up. with that being a burden, she tries living her live being the best. studying until the early morning, doing projects until late night, doing chores, restraining herself from hanging out with her friends too much, she did all of that to ensure her parents that she's a good sister. her hardwork is paid with her parents' full trust on her, and she never misuse their trusts. you can say she has quite a rich family. not that rich, just a little above medium. when she was a little, she's more extroverted and had many friends, but eventually she prefer to stay in her house rather than playing outside.

 

dayoung is one of the clever students in her class--acing english as one of the best student in school too--and that made her easily befriend most of her classmates. can't help the fact that her looks is above average too, not many of her guy classmates can resist falling for her, but fortunately most of them aren't  trying to develop things further. it is a public secret that many boys fell for her from the first sight. it's just her somewhat little-words towards strangers drove them away, much to her relief. dayoung has a specific gauge for boys, quite high at that too. this makes her known as the untouchable-beauty, as cliche as it sounds. she never heard about that though and keep on thinking she's just average in that term.

 

although she's an introvert, dayoung manages to have a decent (and more) relationship with her classmates. but if you're talking about a social butterfly, surely dayoung isn't one of those. dayoung has a small clique consisted of her college friends and jinyoung. her college friends find it weird, having a (handsome) high school student among college students. dayoung feels attached with this boy and she constantly inviting him to accompany her in their hangouts, resulting him to be a part of the group. even though he's the youngest, but he understands her the most.

 

the thing that changed her life happened when she was just starting her last year of high school, which was just the start of this year. she was walking home after a tiring day of doing group projects at one of her friend's house. it wasn't like she was coming home late at night, in fact, it was evening. her walk home was quiet just like usual and nothing seemed weird. when she turned to her house's direction, a hand snatched her wrist and slammed her against the wall in a dark alley. the alley was usually bright, but the lamp had been dead for almost a week then. panicking, dayoung was about to scream but the perpetrator shut with his dirty hand. feeling tears pricking the corner of her eyes, dayoung tried kicking the boy but to no avail, the boy was too strong. the thing that traumatized her forever was the lust he had in his eyes. it was scaring her, she wanted to die right there and then. she didn't know how she escaped, everything was a blur for her. she was blindly kicking, punching and struggling around. the last thing she knew was just running down the street like there was no tomorrow, like the road was suddenly a lava. when she arrived home she slammed the door close, startling her little sister, and cried. her sister was shocked seeing her usually funny and loving sister suddenly came home with disheveled hair, shirts pulled out messily, dirty socks, a shoe missing, and most importantly, blood oozing from her left shoulder.

 

that day traumatized her so bad. she was afraid of boys for at least 4 months before it all settled back to almost normal. the only people who know about the accident are her family and her close small cliques. after that incident, she was extremely judgemental to people, especially the species with a 'd'. she even analyzes people's attitude through their small gestures and expression, even more to suspicious looking guy. now she's more afraid of her looks, the gift that girls would die to have. beauty is not just a gift, it comes with big risk and responsibilty.

• dayoung usually goes to school early in the morning since she doesn't like being tardy, and that way many people are still asleep, she feels safe like that. she never skips breakfast because her mother doesn't want her to have indigestion. dayoung likes to spend her time with her small group of friends, or sometimes just alone. she's an introverted person, she has times where she needs to be alone. dayoung is usually quiet but whenever she feels like it, she'll be weirdly funny and entertaining. this is her usual self at home, since she feels really comfortable being in her family's company. when it's time to go home from school, dayoung usually walks with jinyoung since they're considered neighbors, his house is not that close, but not quite far enough from hers. this makes her incredibly close with that particular first-year. sometimes her friends pulled her to go eat somewhere or to shop for something, as long as she's around them then she's fine. the gazes that boys gave to her scared her, and her friends never let her being alone.

 

RELATIONSHIPS — 

• close friend - cha eunwoo (19) - college student - gentle, caring, loyal - when dayoung suffers from the trauma, he's one of the boys who gains her trust back quickly. whenever dayoung has a problem, she always comes to him for comfort, she rarely tells him her problems, but he always manages to make her day brighter. eunwoo is a year older than her, and acts like a big brother she never has.

• cousin - kim sohye (18) - college student - outgoing, fiery, reliable, protective - sohye is that one person who would burst at people who bother dayoung and fearlessly speak out her harsh opinion. dayoung usually has to calm her down otherwise a cat fight might happen. despite of being handful, dayoung actually glad she has a friend that is the opposite of her, saying things she couldn't say.

• close friend - bae jinyoung (17) - student, neighbor - quiet, observant, friendly - he's a year early and now is in his last year of high school. jinyoung, sharing quite the same personality as her, understand her the most. although he can't give her advices like what eunwoo do, but he's willing to listen to her and give her a shoulder to lean on. he knows what she feels and sometimes their friends can't even understand how he can understand her so well. as an example, whenever dayoung cries, it won't be that evident, the redness of her nose and puffy eyes disappears quickly (maybe it's her body mechanism), but jinyoung knows and he would suddenly offer her his shoulder or buy her something to drink. jinyoung is like the younger brother that dayoung never has.

• acquintance - hwang minhyun (22) - landlord of hwang complex - caring, generous, serious, quiet - they know each other only because she lives in hwang complex. as a landlord, he often checks on all of those who live in his complex, including dayoung. dayoung usually would avoid him though, mainly because she's not that comfortable with boys except eunwoo and jinyoung. 

• close friend - jung jaehyun (19) - college student - funny, caring - he's usually the one who lights up the atmosphere in the group. with his prince-like features and personality, he succeeded on making dayoung feels comfortable around him. he would give her jokes and brighten her day

• close friend - jung chaeyeon (19) - college student - innocent, gullible, feminine - if jaehyun is a prince, then his cousin, chaeyeon, surely is the princess. chaeyeon would cling to dayoung whenever they're hanging out and protects her whenever she sense that dayoung is uncomfortable. together with sohye the two of them would be dayoung's shield.
