AT A YOUNG AGE, MINJI REALIZED THAT LIFE PRETTY DAMN . THEIR FAMILY HAD TO SELL THEIR HOUSE FOR THE SIBLINGS TO CONTINUE STUDYING. HER OLDER BROTHER STARTED WORKING PART TIME AT THE AGE OF 16. MINJI ONCE VOLUNTEERED TO HELO WITH THE FINANCIAL STATUS OF THEIR FAMILY BUT HER MOTHER DIDN'T WANT HER TO DO IT. BY THE AGE OF 16, MINJI STUMBLED UPON UNDERGROUND BATTLES AND STARTED JOINING THEM TO MANAGE TO WIN SOME MONEY FOR HER ALLOWANCE.
AT FIRST SHE WASN'T THAT GOOD BUT SHE WOULD SPENT NIGHTS WRITING LYRICS AFTER SHE FINISHED STUDYING. DURING ONE OF THE UNDERGROUND COMPETITION, A YG SCOUT WAS THERE AND ASKED HER TO JOIN THE ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY. ONCE SHE TOLD THIS TO HER PARENTS, THEY WEREN'T VERY THRILLED BUT MINJI ASSURED THEM THAT SHE WOULD BE FINE AND SHE'LL STILL HANDLE HER STUDIES.
