The Thin Line
There's a thin line between shipping and delusion.
We ship because we think and feel that our respective OTP's are ideal for each other. That their chemistry is undeniable. But until our OTP's declare that they are officially together we should always take our spazzing with a grain of salt.
Always taking in that small grain of reality in our shipping is not being negative as some extremist shippers would think. It's only being real and giving our OTP's the freedom to live their lives unconstrained by our spazzing ideals.
It's okay to immerse yourselves in fanfic but when we fill up the blank spaces in our knowledge of our OTP's with our imagined fanfic worthy scenarios and start making novels out of entirely unrelated loose pages and then believe them as canon then we are delusional.
There's a thin line between anger and hate.
You are justified to feel angry when dirt is thrown at your respective idol. Anger is a very human emotion and there is nothing wrong with that. Anger is usually an immediate reaction but hate is another thing. Sometimes hate masquerades itself as anger but anger is rational while hatred is not.
In the heat of our emotions we talk back at those who inflict hurt on our OTP's and that just might be within the realms of anger. But when we go all out war freak on a whole fandom because of one disrespectful anti-fan or anti-shipper then we start crossing that thin line and enter into hate territory.
There's a thin line between defense and bashing.
We are entirely within our rights to defend our OTP's from getting bullied. When their character as a person is being muddied unreasonably it's only right that we protect.
I've been following a few social media accounts ever since I first started shipping my fave OTP. These accounts are commendable for their passion to defend and protect their OTP's from bashing.
But it's sad to see how some would just as viciously lash out hate against the bashers of their OTP. What's more cringe worthy is that some lash out on other ships or fandoms based on unvalidated assumptions aka delusions.
In the less than a year that I've been immersed in this shipping phenomenon, I've realized that sometimes in our passion and drive to protect our OTP's from their bashers we end up being bashers ourselves. We in turn become the very thing that we despise.
