WHAT'S THAT WEIRD SOUND? OH, THAT'S JUST CHAERIN. Fluffy weirdo - ball Chaerin is best known for randomly jumping around, making the weirdest noises and either laugh or sing 24/7. She can't stay still, she can't be quiet...oh yeah, she can be absolutely annoying to her group - and also labelmates. She's a 5-year-old kid, captured in an adult woman's body. Okay, sometimes she can be just like her age as well... but she prefers being all lively, happy and - of course - weird. It's level Chaerin. Anything but normal. And so is her laugh that echoes through the hallways ever so often. Most of the time accompanied by another weird- laugh, noisy as hell and either extremely annoying or so funny that everyone around has to join in the laughters. You thought Seokmin has a weird laugh? You gotta witness him together with Chaerin.

ON THE ROAD TO DISASTER. Among all the 365 members Chaerin is probably one of the most emotional ones. She's not crying a lot but 99% of whatever she does happens because she doesn't think about what she's doing and instead does whatever her heart tells her to do. And if it calls out to start a fight with someone, oh yeah, she can even do that. It's her best and worst trait at the same time as she can be a person fully devoted to something, being all loving and caring but at the same time her weakest point as it makes her really vulnerable and sometimes even predictable to others if they know her well enough. If she gets seriously mad, she needs someone to calm her down again and hold her back, otherwise she might go berserk and do stuff that will have a bad backlash on her. Sad is something she doesn't like to do. It confuses her. Confusion is bad. Confusion leads to delusion. At least in Chaerin's case. Why would she ever deal with actual problems? She hates doing that. And her innert child keeps telling her that things will turn out all great, so why just don't believe that?

I'M NOT A GIRL, NOT YET A WOMAN. Even though Chaerin is one of the older members, she acts like one of the youngest. She is noisy, playful and naive. Really naive. Naive and compassionate. People can easily prank her and tell her stuff that's not true, she would still believe it. She once found an article on facebook about Hankyung wanting to leave MBX and when she asked him, he took advantage of her naivity and pretended he really was planning to leave the group. Chaerin believed in it for almost a month, being all wrought up because of that. Besides that she's a person who cannot be serious for too long. She is a natural derp, open to the extent that people can read her like an open book AND she is clumsy. Oh yeah, hella clumsy. She might be overly skilled in dancing and gaming but she is able to drop anything. Knives, phones, food. Good thing something like the 3 seconds rule is existing. Otherwise Chaerin would be starving to death. Put Namhoon and Chaerin together and you have an absolutely destructive pair of idiots together.

WORK COMES FIRST. There's just one thing she's absolutely serious about: her dream. She would work overnight, skip meals and whatsoever everyday if it would help. Her life motto is "Get rich or die trying", so she thinks that everything can be achieved with hard work. The bad thing with it is that if she fails, she falls into a deep whole of despair and depression, not knowing what to do and what the sense of her life is anymore. Whenever moments like that apear, she tends to do really stupid stuff. Stuff she regrets later. Stuff that could change her life.

I'M NOT LIKE THE OTHERS. Chaerin grew up in Busan, raised by loving parents and besides an older sister, Chaeyeon, who stanned boygroup H.O.T. Thanks to her Chaerin got to know about K-Pop groups during a very young age. And she found her destiny in it. As she had never been a very diligent student and her grades were pretty average, maybe even a little below, there was no hope for her attending one of Korea's top universities and neither her nor her parents knew what to do about her future. Anyway, there had always been her passion for singing and dancing. Therefore her parents let her audition in 2010 and sent her to Seoul to be a trainee under EM Entertainment.

DREAMS VS NIGHTMARES. As there has always only been EM Entertainment for Chaerin, the fear to fail and not to debut was huge. Chaerin never attended any university, she barely made it through High School. After years and years of training but never having any success, her parents started worrying a lot, asking her to come back to Busan. But Chaerin never gave up. She once wavered, contemplating about maybe joining her boyfriend's road in life but luckily things came different. However, the fear of not being successful is still deeply anchored in her.

YOUR INNER CHILD IS THE MOST POISONOUS TO YOURSELF. Chaerin started as a trainee around the same time as the MBX members. Therefore she is very close with all of them, especially PP since both connect through their craziness. In the beginning Chaerin had a really, really good time, being full of hopes and her dream of becoming an idol. But after MBX debuted and her debut still seemed far, far away, training got harder and harder for her - even with her boyfriend right by her side. The Happy Virus got step by step more and more frustrated, keeping a smile on her face but feeling all sad and disappointed in herself deep inside. She thought about dropping out multiple times but stayed and when she almost gave up on her dreams, EM finally announced that she would debut. The young girl always got along pretty well with other people, at some point believing that she was only kept as a trainee at EM because she was a genius in brightening the mood and helped encouraging the other girls to stay and work hard. At some point she even thought that Kiyong asked the EM staff to keep her as a trainee and not kick her out. In fact he never did something like that but after a while of not having any success, Chaerin started imagining the wildest things.

GIVE ME BACK WHAT I LOVE. After being added to the line-up of 365, Chaerin still didn't feel all content with the outcome. She never really felt as if the entertainment acknowledged her skills. Despite being the oldest, she wasn't made the leader. Despite having worked as a choreographer, she never got to help with choreographies, neither even show her skills properly. Very often she therefore started questioning her motives of being and idol and it didn't really help that a certain someone, her boyfriend, kept nagging that she should just drop out, join him as a choreographer and dance instructor and live the life she was meant to live. With him.

It had taken Kiyong like forever to convince Chaerin to join him at 1Million to teach a choreography together to his students. Especially a couple choreography. All the time Chaerin had refused to come out that way as she had claimed that "something like that is no good for my career. It might cause disadvantages if the company finds out. And what if anyone finds out about us dating? I don't want to make it public...!". Why Kiyong had asked her at all? Among all the trainees she was one of the best, that was for sure. But Kiyong already had seen a lot of trainees' dreams shatter... and as it seemed for Chaerin, that certain dream of debuting moved further and further away from her. Many times he had already asked her to drop out and start as a choreographer, just like him. But she never gave up. She was a fighter. All the more he was surprised when she suddenly agreed, seemingly haven given up on her dream of becoming an idol for good. And that meant that she was maybe ready to go the next step in their relationship as well. The age difference wasn't even that big but as Chaerin was still in her early 20s, Kiyong could see the end of his 20s very soon. And he had always wanted to marry around age 27/28 the latest. If she was ready now, why not? They had been dating for quite some time anyway and he couldn't imagine being with someone else ever, either. And after that one choreography, many more followed. EM never mentioned it once, they just left her be. And so Kiyong was even able to drag Chaerin down the rabbit hole more and more,

So, just like always he made his way to the EM training quarters... just with one difference. One addition within his bag. A ring. He had decided to pop the question, get her out of the cruel idol industry and start a decent but happy life together with her. 

"Hey everyone!", he greeted the group of female trainees, each of them already being busy with their warm-up. His very own girlfriend in between the trainees, of course. A giggling was like always running trough the rows when he was smiling at Chaerin before they started. The EM trainees were like a little family, therefore Kiyong's and Chaerin's relationship was a pretty open secret. And since Chaerin was one of the older trainees and just like Kiyong the others didn't really expect her to ever debut, nobody had ever complained about them dating in secrecy. And nobody had yet the urge to go and tell one of the other staffs about them. Because nobody expected her to be a serious rival in the competition to debut. However, today would change everything. Unfortunatelly not the way Bongyoung had planned.

When one of the EM managers suddenly interrupted his class and called some of the girls out, he was already preparing himself to comfort Chaerin after today's schedule because he was sensing them to be dismissed from EM. But then also some of the more promising girls were called out and it slowly dawned on him that maybe something completely different would happen. The girls soon entered the dance room again with shocked expressions. "What's wrong?", one of the other trainees asked curiously. "They'll let us debut!", Chaerin voiced out, still too shocked to realize what the girls had just been told. Kiyong's mouth dropped open the moment the news reached his clear mind as well. They would debut. That would mean...

A relationship with an idol. He wouldn't be able to propose to her. For now. And it wouldn't only be Chaerin who would struggle with the question if she could go on dating Kiyong or not in the future. It was also Kiyong who would have to ask himself: Would he fight for their future together? Or would he back out to let the love of his life rise to stardom and fame?

Seokmin, Sunhee and PP were together sitting in front of the entertainment's dressing room, Sunhee and PP their arms crossed while staring in a waiting manner at the door with Seokmin tensed-up checking if someone was about to pass by and catch the group doing what should really not be done at the company. Yet, what other chance did they have... the dormitories maybe? No, not for this.

"Okay, I'm done!", Chaerin called out, ready to open the door. When she did, PP and Sunhee were making thoughtful noises, Seokmin next to them almost dying of a heart attack. Chaerin was standing in front of them in a police officer uniform, posing but also staring down at herself unsure if what she was dressed in was alright or not. "I don't know."

"I'd totally love it if that barista boy would surprise me in an officer uniform.", Sunhee approved.

"You have to consider that she fought with Kiyong, though. She needs to be SUPER hot.", PP argued. "You should roll up the skirt. It needs to be shorter. WAY shorter."

Chaerin was about to do it on the spot but Seokmin stopped her in the middle, holding onto her skirt to pull it down again. "It's short enough! Kiyong'll love it, just go back and get dressed in something...", he had his face directed away from her body, yet from the corner of his eyes eyed her from head to toe, "...more... appropriate..."

"You're a party pooper!", the Thai boy complained and shook his head. "Seokmin, you're really no fun. Do you even have fun... besides laughing about your lame dad-jokes?"

"Of course I do! And I at least have manners, too! What do you have!"

PP chuckled and pointed at Chaerin as if giving her a sign to answer and she really did. She exclaimed something in Thai that no one really grabbed except for PP and then turned around to get dressed back into her normal clothes.

"What did she say?", Seokmin asked.

"She said I have a big ."

"What?!", Sunhee asked and started laughing.

PP shrugged it off. "She thinks she says 'swag' but she happens to say 'big ' the entire time."

"Why does she never say something like that to me?", Seokmin scoffed.

"Because you don't have one, maybe?", PP tried to give an answer.

"Obviously.", Sunhee agreed.

stage name Candy - The name was given to her since the ones in charge of stage names wanted to keep the C in her name. Yet, there were a lot of names coming up that reminded too much of 2NE1's CL, so in the end they came up with Candy, indicating the cuteness of Chaerin and the hope that people would find her weirdness sweet instead of unsettling.

stage presence One word. Happy Virus. Okay, that were two. Then two words! Let's add some more. Super noisy Happy Virus. If there's something Chaerin doesn't know how to do then it's how to shut up. She talks a lot, especially during variety shows. And she doesn't really know her limits and often starts talking about random or weird stuff, resulting in others to laugh about her behavior. She also randomly dances and raps and is (in-)famous for her many derpy expressions which she cannot control. People easily read her mind because of that and during variety shows, she's often seen with those 'What the heck?', 'Oh please nooooo!' or ''Awwwww, dayum!" faces. 
Unfortunately, Chaerin never really gets to show off her actual dancing and choreographing skills, so people pretty often reduce her to her animal immitations and those weird answers she every now and then drops. Some MCs go as far to nag her, saying stuff like "How come you're the main dancer when everything you do is making animal noises?" It hurts her pride and she will pout and throw a tantrum, alas there is nothing she can do about it if EM doesn't want to change it. At least she's not fading into the background. Her way too loose lips won't ever allow.
 

extra skills There are two main qualities that Chaerin has to offer. Her dancing/choreographing and her unique variety skills (which are basically making people laugh about her weirdness/stupidity). Later one is what she actually gets to do most of the time while the thing she really wants to do is low-key taken away from her.

✩ "AAYYYYYY, Chaerin back in tha hoooouse!" Chaerin pretty quickly got reprimanded to keep things serious, especially now. Being cut off before even being able to finish her planned introduction, Chaerin started to get nervous.
 "Uhm... ohmaaaaaaaan! Now I forgot what I wanted to say...dayum..." Her expression was like always showing how she felt. (D:) " Ahhh...whatever. Hey, I'm Kang Chaerin, I'm 24 and I've been a trainee since 2010 under EM."
 

you are finally debuting in an idol group. How do you feel about that? 

✩ "Uhm, hellooooooo? I would have even debuted with MBX if I could have. Of course I am super hyped about this! Are you all ready? Because I am!"

why did you decide to become an idol? and why em entertainment?

✩ "I can remember my older sister stanning H.O.T like crazy. She was listening to it throughout the whole day, so I started a liking for K-Pop as well. I liked how people were celebrating and singing and dancing along to H.O.T's songs, so I also wanted to be like them. I can remember that back then in elementary school when all the other girls wanted to be a princess, I just wanted to be a singer, dancing on a big stage." Chaerin sighed and drifted away into her thoughts about the past, obviously enjoying it. ( ﾟヮﾟ) "Oh! Uhm...yeah! Why I chose EM? Because they accepted me, of course! There were just a few companies even giving me a chance, maybe I was too ugly...who knows." (゜-゜) "Oh god... I hope it was not because of that..." (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)

✩ "We get along pretty well!", Chaerin answered and immediately started beaming. "I mean, PP- I mean, Tim and I are the fabolous ChaeP!" She shortly looked around as if she expected Sunhee to throw a knife after her for calling her and PP fabolous when that was a typical Peehee thing. "Namhoon is pretty chill, Yikwang is a ray of sunshine, Jonggyu is a saltshaker, Hankyung is just Hankyung and Seokmin is probably going to be the best dad on earth with his dad jokes. I asked him to adopt me. He rejected that plead several times. I don't know why. It's a pitty, really."

✩ "What I lack in?" She took a moment to think about it, then her eyes suddenly grew bigger, more panicky. "Acting." 
( ⚆ _ ⚆ ) "Acting is... oh my god, just nooooo. My acting skills are horrible! If I just imagining trying to keep a serious face or stuff... I can already feel my face muscles protest! I'd totally make an awesome MC, though. I'm funny. I think. That's my strongest point. Next to my dancing skills. You don't believe me? ✩ "Despite the fact that my wife's in the group?" As so often Chaerin gained a warning glance from the side. "Just kidding, just kidding! I'd say my group is great! I like my groupmates! But also I like everyone. Almost. Hahaha."

✩ Seokmin for a very good reason is the visual of MBX and as that gained a lot of interest internationally because of his outstanding looks. But beyond that pretty face hides a very noisy, dad-jokes throwing dork who can't eat without making funny noises and who loves to just be an idiot. Even during work-out he can't stop coming up with funny ideas like slapping his fellow members with his slippers or head-bangs while eating his noods. Yet, despite being overly joyous on the outside, his inside child is hurting a lot as the company very much reduces him on his looks only, making him feel helpless, if not even worthless next to all the other MBX members. He feels like his skills aren't acknowledged at all and that's where he understands Chaerin the most. Both of them know they have a lot more to offer but are reduced on only one thing. They way they manage to sell themselves to the public.
Being forced to fully stick to this, Seokmin is exhausted by his idol life and not seldomly close to driving into desperation and depressions if not for the sake of Chaerin who manages to make him laugh again with her unchangeable ways of being just herself. Where he is more mature, nurturing and caring, Chaerin is a lively child and reminds him of how to still be who he used to be. And they're their biggest supporters, too. While Seokmin knows that Chaerin every now and then needs to be reminded that even along her co-members she is the most beautiful to Seokmin, Chaerin knows how to encourage Seokmin by telling him that she knows how capable he is of what he loves to do and that he deserves to ask for more than just his spot as a visual. That's how they are matching: They are balancing each outhers personality traits out and at the same time resemble each other where needed, as much as encouraging each others where it helps the most.

Seokmin, by the way, is pretty jealous. He hates being unreasonable and he especially dislikes hating people who don't deserve to be hated. But nowadays there is someone he really can't stand.

 

love story

✩ Seokmin, ever after Chaerin joined EM, is one of the closest to her. Because of their very similar humor and the way they complete each other (with Seokmin probably being the best mom dad ever on the planet that Chaerin very probably is not), they practically clicked and to some point Seokmin developed a crush on her. But because of the lack of experience he has with girls and he didn't know how to approach her, he missed the very moment to confess to her when Kiyong was quicker and snitched her away right in front of Seokmin's eyes. A little frustrated he tried to distance himself from Chaerin but failed because he started missing her a lot and PP made sure that she was around at any time possible. 

Their love only - and ironically - get a chance when Kiyong proposes to Chaerin and she is put into the very tight spot to decide if she really wants to get married or only chase her dream of being an idol. She still isn't ready to marry early and Seokmin will be the one she will talk about her problems with. He will encourage her to follow her dreams and tell her that she's still young and needs to experience a lot of things. This will ultimately lead to her breaking up with her long-term boyfriend and after that Seokmin will try to approach her again, confusing her a lot because until some point she thought of them only as friends but realizes herself that there is more than meets the eye. There will be times where Seokmin will get super angry because a certain someone will try to interfere (can you hear the Z.I.CO echoing in the background?) but he'll do his best to get him out of the way. Somehow.

Fun Fact: He really, really dislikes Kiyong and even more that Kiyong is a nice person that doesn't really deserves to be hated.

"Heeeeeey, are you done by now?" Seokmin showed up in the 365 practice room, ready to surprise his female friend, knowing that they were already all done, Chaerin probably being the last one in the room as she very often stayed to go through some dance routines. He had lunchboxes prepared, taking the time during his busy schedules to cook as he knew that there was nothing more effective to catch Chaerin's interest with than food. But when he arrived, he found Chaerin talking to the one person he didn't want to see like ever. Kiyong was arguing about something with her, his usually smiling face being disgruntled even when he saw Seokmin approaching.
"Hey Seokmin...is it urgent?", Chaerin asked and looked at Seokmin. Seokmin shortly glanced over to Kiyong, then back at the girl. "I...am not sure.", he answered and Chaerin's face showed something that looked dangerously a lot like disappointment. Did she want him to save her from this situation? "Would you mind leaving us a moment then? Mr Yong over here decided to be a dickhead today." Kiyong snorted at her words and Seokmin would have laughed about it if Chaerin hadn't mentioned that one word before that ruined his complete mood. Us. Ugh. Seokmin's toe nails started curling when he heard her calling herself and Kiyong 'us'. But it gave him enough encouragement to try getting her out of that situation. He quickly hid the bag with the lunchboxed behind his back. "Now that I think about it... I think it is urgent... I heard your manager is looking for you?" That sounded a lot less confident than planned. It seemed to work, still. Kiyong snorted. "Then just go do your idol business, what do you need me for when you can have a stage and ahjusshi fans screaming for you.", he scoffed and then left. 
"Kiyong? OPPA?!" Chaerin desperately moved on the spot, her hands forming fists. She was torn between staying with Seokmin or following her angry boyfriend and her whole body was showing the conflict she was kept within. "Oh ...!", she mumbled before she started running after him.
Well... that didn't go as planned. And Seokmin hated that guy all the more.

—  It's over, it's done! Here's Chae 2.0. Who is basically like 1.0 with just a few little modifications.
