My Connection to K-Pop

This is just a silly random blog today.

I found K-pop as I was getting ready for my junor year of high school by complete accident when a YouTube channel I subscribe to posted a video called YouTubers React to K-pop. I watched the very first video that they posted for that when it came out and it showed BigBang - Fantastic Baby, Girl's Generation - I Got a Boy, and SHINee - Lucifer. I looked up BigBang and SHINee after the video and instantly loved BigBang and after a bit of trying got into SHINee as well. Knowing how great YouTube is at finding related videos and making recommendations, my list of groups that I like has grown. I am a huge multi-fandom girl that continuously finds more groups. I have a collection of over 150 albums and I keep ordering more.

Because of K-Pop I have found a purpose for my life. Ironically enough, I had to make up a lab after school and had a Korean language book with me and my Chemistry teacher noticed it. We talked about everything for a bit and my interest in Korea. As we were talking she told me about the school's ESL class and recommended I go talk to the instructor of it. I talked to the teacher the next day and I ended up learning more about ESL and for the last half of my junior year I was a double teacher's aide for my math teacher and the ESL teacher. My senior year I was a special case again and got a double study hall that way for the entirety of my senior year I was a teacher's aide for ESL again. When I started that my junior year, I realized that was what I wanted to do with my life, so I am currently in school so I can do that.

After I finish college my goal is to hopefully, as soon as possible, to move to South Korea and teach English to high school students. I also want to be a teacher that the students can rely on and come to when they feel there is no one else to turn to in a time of need. Because of my experences in school I understand people a lot more than some may realize.

Even to this day, going into my 3rd year of college next month, I still find it funny that all of this started because of a random video of YouTubers reacting to K-Pop and my decision to look into it more. I might get ridiculed or put down and rejected because of it but my dreams and goals are too important to give up just because people don't like it.

Another life changing moment for me was February of 2016 when I went and saw EXO live in New York. It was amazing seeing all the fans together and not only hearing the music but feeling it all through my body and all the happiness and excitement I experienced. I had that same experience for the 2nd time in March of 2017 when I saw BTS live in Chicago. Hearing and feeling the music, seeing all the fans gathered, and being part of the ocean with everyone. Even the music helped me to see a brighter part of life in a way. My 3rd time was just a couple weeks ago (July 2017), I went and saw Monsta X live in Chicago, and it was amazing. I was decently close to the stage (I was decently close for BTS as well), I was able to be part of the ocean again, and the experience of hearing and feeling the music just always amazes me. Just like BTS, I was able to connect to some of Monsta X's music and it helps me to stay positive and not give up and to keep pushing forward. Next month (August 2017) I'll be going to Chicago again to see Seventeen live.

Some people tell me I'm wasting my money by going to these concerts and buying endless CDs but to me it's completely worth it. Collecting my albums does no harm to anyone and I love collecting the photocards and looking at the photobooks. As for the concerts, I'm willing to put forth the money if its a group I like, especially so I can experience the feelings that I felt at my first 3 concerts again.

Sorry for the long post, especially since I don't normally post a lot lol. Have a great morning, afternoon, evening, or not wherever you are :).

I agree with you on albums and photocards. Collecting merch from your favorite artists does absolutely no harm and it's just a fun hobby! And for you dream to become an English teacher, I'd say go for it! It's a pretty realistic goal and a teacher who's dedicated to wanting to help others is definitely a positive thing that every student needs.
