in reality, though, not only is soljoon pink punk's y icon, she's also pink punk's future entertainer. she's a favourite on variety shows thanks to her carefree behaviour and witty remarks. even in front of all her seniors in the industry, soljoon isn't shy or shameless and she will do anything it takes to make people laugh. her "y and mysterious" image is gone when people see how she acts on variety shows. during interviews, too, she would be the most talkative one and the member who engages the most with the host. thanks to how outgoing she is, show mcs tend to think that she's the leader, which sometimes causes a drift between her and the actual leader.

kwon soljoon was born in gwangju, south korea on the twelfth september in nineteen ninety-eight. she was greeted into the world by her parents, her father a high school sports coach and her mother a teacher. her older brother was four at the time. though they weren't wealthy, they were financially stable, close-knitted and had small vacations within the country.

 

at just the age of four, soljoon was already showing a blooming interest in music. she liked singing (or rather, mumbling) along to all the songs her parents would play at home on their radio and if a music show was on tv, she wouldn't let them change the channel so she could attempt to follow the choreography. as gwangju was indeed the city of dance, her parents liked taking her to watch dance competitions and the happiness in her little self was priceless.

her father was actually very happy that a child of his was interested in music; his teenage dream was to be a singer, but times didn't allow for that to happen. he signed her up for hip-hop dance classes at the age of six considering how much she loved dancing and at the same time, as soljoon grew up, they'd often have mini jam sessions where they would sing together while her father played the guitar.

 

her father passed away surprisingly due to a , which left her family in pieces. his last wish was for her to be a singer and the last thing she'd want was to disappoint him. with her mother and her brother, the three of them moved out to seoul, where the chance for soljoon to be a singer was higher. they had some financial struggles, considering the cost to live in a city like seoul, so soljoon didn't have the chance to attend a professional dance academy like she did. instead, she ventured in the underground scene and became a part of a dancing crew called soji.

 

there was no better job that would enable her to sing and dance than an idol. hence, she decided to try out her luck; she auditioned at jyp entertainment, but unfortunately failed. it terribly upsetted her and her self-esteem flunctuated like a popped balloon, especially with thoughts about her father. she felt like she was unworthy to be a singer and that she would be a disappointment to her family. however, her brother did a good job in comforting her and lifting her spirits again. just a few months later, with her mother waiting outside patiently, soljoon found herself in dsp's audition room. she hoped that maybe she'd have a bigger shot in a smaller company. and she was right.

at just the age of fourteen years old, soljoon then began her life as a trainee, in hopes she'll make it as an idol.

 

kwon jungseok, 25.

unlike most siblings, they don't have that sort of rivalry or even daily arguments, nor are they distant with each other. they're actually very close. jungseok is a quiet, reserved introvert with a personality that opposes soljoon's, but he's more clingy and affectionate than she is. he dotes on her greatly and is so overprotective that it may be embarrassing. soljoon has full respect for her brother, thankful to him for being the driving factor in enabling her to achieve her dreams and he'll always be her biggest fan. she really misses him, as he's now studying arts in osaka, japan so it's even harder for them to meet. they talk via videochat whenever they can and text each other nearly every day.

 

kojima yuka, 21.

at the moment, soljoon has never really had any interactions with yuka as they're both trainees with a different circle of friends. they've had their share of greetings, particularly thanks to soljoon's friendliness. also, soljoon admires her from afar, however, sighing "how is she so pretty," to herself nearly every time she sees yuka.

 

geum soyul, 22. collab with nyamda !

a fellow trainee friend of soljoon's. though soyul isn't soljoon's closest friend in the agency, soljoon still thinks of her as a good friend, someone she can spend time with for a long time despite the differences in their personalities. soyul's another person that makes soljoon feel insecure about her appearance but she enjoys talking to her nevertheless.

 

boo seungkwan, 20.

after debut, mcs of variety shows often point out how soljoon reminds them of boo seungkwan, seventeen's main vocal and variety king. when they finally meet later on, maybe on a show or simply backstage a few months after the girls' debut, they'll hit it off instantly. though seungkwan is two years soljoon's senior, they are of the same age which makes them become friends even quicker. seungkwan then becomes soljoon's closest idol friend (besides pink punk) and they'll stay in touch as frequently as possible.

one. she isn't good at holding her alcohol (especially since she just turned legal this year) and gets drunk really easily. even so, she still drinks, and a drunk soljoon is a hilarious sight.

though reserved and introverted, this pretty face is also the resident walking meme of seventeen. he's a matured, level-headed and peaceful guy, energetic and extremely hardworking. he has fun when he wants to but knows his limits. he isn't the talkative kind but can socialize with other people well. he's kind of a tsundere, showing his love and affection mostly through actions rather than words. he's also a romantic charmer, good at engaging with the crowd and making people fall head over heels for him.

 

meeting :

hansol has always been attractive to soljoon, but her seventeen bias has been wonwoo since the boys' debut. it's all thanks to boo seungkwan that the two of them met. hansol is seungkwan's legitimate other half and they're pretty much attached at the hip. at a 2017 year-end music show, during which seungkwan and soljoon have already been good friends, the two boys bump into her near the toilets. seungkwan and soljoon greet each other in a very cheerful and friendly manner, while hansol looked on silently, his eyes glued on soljoon.

upon parting, soljoon respectfully greeted hansol as her senior and the moment he returned a bow with a dazzling smile, his eyes directly looking into hers, something inside her chest exploded. her heart beat ridiculously much faster to the point she almost forgot to breathe. he was handsome on his own, but in that moment, she didn't know what it was that made her insides go crazy.

seungkwan, sensing his role as a matchmaker, introduced the two of them to each other. it was hansol who proposed that they drop honorifics and be on the level of friends. soljoon, for once in her life, was shy and she stuttered as she talked to him.

after parting, soljoon couldn't focus on anything else as her mind was totally filled of hansol, which was terrifying for her. his smile haunted her until she fell asleep. as for hansol, he had bombarded seungkwan with questions about soljoon, finding her cute and interesting.

that was how they became friends and how soljoon fell in love for the very first time.

 

interactions :

the way they act around each other makes seungkwan roll his eyes, he just wants to scream "oh kiss already!" and push his two friends' heads together. truthfully, if anybody saw soljoon and hansol together, anybody would ship them. they're in that stage where they obviously like each other but neither is doing anything about it. their conversations are mostly light and nothing serious, also full of hansol's subtle flirting and soljoon's excessive giggles. from the way they look at each other, you can tell that there's something going on. it'd be dangerous if seventeen and pink punk are put together because these two will sneak glances at the other as much as they can. they aren't as close as seungkwan and soljoon but they cheer one another on with minimal skinship (pat on the head, fistbump, highfive, etc). plus, hansol allows soljoon to call him "hansol" rather than "vernon" and he also calls her by "soljoon" rather than "nikko".

 

relationship :

soljoon certainly has a big, fat crush on him, while hansol hasn't properly sorted out his feelings for soljoon yet, though he knows he cares for her in a special way. there are many reasons as to why neither had made a solid move; of course, idols and dating should never be put in the same sentence together, also they're both still young, soljoon's still a rookie and she feels small next to him (their different "level of visuals"), and hansol has his fragile boyish ego too. they remain in the "more than friends, less than lovers" stage where they're far more comfortable, instead of establishing an official relationship.
