Recently, the 13th Doctor was announced.  And it's going to be a woman.

My first thought was "And?"

My second was "Who is she?  I've never seen her in anything before."

My third came after Googling her, and was "Oh, I have seen her ... yeah, she'd be alright to watch."

Jodie Whittaker takes up the mantle of one of the most iconic roles in British TV.  And I get that this role has always been played by a man. I get it, really, I do.  But it has been established that, whilst Time Lords can not only change gender, but race.

I read a comment about this on BBC News that really did sum up my thoughts to the outrage.

"People who accept a shape-shifting, time-travelling immortal character unable to accept female lead in a television show."

With each regeneration of The Doctor, there has not only been a new actor, but a new character.  A new personality.  A new persona completely.  But it has always been The Doctor.  When The Master changed from a man to a woman, people thought her casting choice was magnificent and she is loved and revered as probably one of the best villains in recent Who lore.

But The Doctor can't be female, apparently.

There was also someone who said "It's a Time LORD, not a Time LADY!"  Well, the Time Lords are to Galifrey as Earthlings are to Earth.  A female Earthling isn't called anything other than an Earthling.  The Time Lords aren't called Time Lords because they're born male.  That's their race name, their species.

The Doctor is now female.  Jodie Whittaker is The Doctor, whether we like it or not.

And to be honest, I can't wait to see her strutt her stuff.
