#THESTRUGGLEISREAL is juyeol's most used hashtag if that gives any indication as to what type of person juyeol is. no, he's not an emotionless guy with the personality of a tin can who doesn't care about anything. he's learned to acknowledge and embrace his struggles and the totally radical idea that you shouldn't care about what people think/say/do/breath about you, and neither should he. he's had the stereotypical bullied background and equally crummy parents to lend such thought and fostering. honestly, the only thing that saved him from the brink of being a tin-man was ballet, the very source of all of his early childhood problems. ballet to him was oxygen to a normal human- he breathed it, inhaled it, lived it- such sport (yes, it's a sport) does not give way to a flexible personality, which is why people have always described him as a hardass, a perfectionist, and a pessimist. the truth isn't very far from fiction. still, the remnants of his pre-almost-anakin days exist in the form of his uncontrollable sharp tongue that loves to drop unecessary comments in the middle of tense situations, the random burts of thought-provoking and honestly existential crisis-sounding blurbs, and the occasional "are u ok bro" rant that's either an omen or a thinly-veiled threat. the rest of the cafe is still split over this. tl;dr someone who's been on tumblr since 2007 and has gone through the emo stage, the depressive stage, the sassy stage, until they glo'd-up to become a really popular humour blog but still reblogs some posts from snarky/emo/depressive posts every now and then (jaded boy who knows it's not good to be jaded and is trying his hardest not to be)

CHARACTER ! mom's a doctor, dad's one of the more senior executive officials in some huge company, so juyeol's always been a privilleged kid who was immediately accepted into the elite geumsaek prep school nearby. there's nothing special about his childhood, really. afternoons were spent between tutoring and a mix of hyper-masculine sports his father forced upon him, like soccer and baseball. boys at the age of 8 are incredibly violent, juyeol finds out.
! things change when he's ten and stumbles on ballet after his hand slips and ticks dance as his extracurricular. long story short, he's hooked, and by the time he's 11- he's already auditioned and accepted at the minsul arts academy, to which his parents begrudgingly paid the tuition for.
! here's where it gets really juicy: juyeol, a rising star, is accepted into paris opera ballet's summer intensives at the age of 14. ballet is juyeol's life at this point- it's the love of his life, and by the way his teachers hail him as one of the best dancers they've seen, ballet seems to love him back. in france, he learns two things. one, the love of his life could be his future- he could be payed to dance. the other thing? he finds out he's biual. everyone in france seems so chic and mature, so he lets one of the boys he's friends with kiss him under the stairwell of their school.
everything was going so well. so when he's given an ultimatum at the age of 16, juyeol kind of expected it. his parents are fed up- they don't believe ballet is a good future, much less for a man of color. they want him out of minsul and into geumsaek for the last two years of highschool, or he could kiss everything goodbye. it's cool though- with the help of one dedicated ballet teacher, he becomes minsul art's second student to be accepted into paris opera theatre.
the only thing to do now is to wait for summertime, save up money, and learn french, where juyeol will run off to paris and hopefully, his parents don't disown their only son. they're not villaneous or anything- they just want what's best for their son (and themselves). but juyeol knows there's no way he can hold onto an artery or sit behind a desk 12 hours a day.
he's not having that hard of a time keeping this from his parents whenever he goes home to their apartment in wonyeon during weekends from the dorm where he usually lives. and thanks to delia, he's already earning money. the only thing now is to practice french, ce n'est pas trop difficille

! remember when juyeol found out he was also into boys? yeah, that was nathaniel, and they've been best friends since. sure, it's kind of awkward to be best friends with your first kiss- but nathaniel is a slimy little devil completely obtuse to awkward situations, and juyeol's just learned to go along with the flow.

that sort of changes when the magical bit is revealed, juyeol slowly turns into a 'lord take me now' type of person around er, magical things (read: jasper), but still. delia is cool, as long as he doesn't die or anything like that.

! juyeol really isn't a loner, and while best friend usually denotes one particular person- he has two of them. seok is the opposite of juyeol in the sense that he's stunningly optimistic and very cheerful. they've been friends since juyeol started attending geumsaek, and although seok remains at geumsaek (he claims he can't carry a tune but juyeol knows otherwise) their friendship is still evident and there.
mostly though, he comes in to bug juyeol when he's working.

! JUYEOL HATES CATS, a play by yoo juyeol. ironically, he hates both the musical and the actial species itself, for the sole reason of he's incredibly ing allergic to them @ god help me type of allergic. thankfully, antihistamines are a thing so while he doesn't go blubbering about like a seal most of the time, should he ever (and he has) forget his antihistamine that he takes before starting his shift, may lord have mercy on his nose.
there's also the entire thing of not really getting along with animals- seriously, how many times has juyeol accidentally stepped on jasper's tail? too many to count.
