Kim Sijin for Ocean Avenue

Name: Kim Sijin

Date of birth: May 9th, 1999

Faceclaim; backup: Bona (WJSN); Sowon (GFRIEND)

ual orientation: bi but predominantly straight

Personality:

This is the story of a girl who is always above the clouds. If she could, she would never come back. The girl is kind and quiet, always present and ready to give a compliment or to lend a helping hand. She is the kind of person in the back of the venue, always there but never remembered. Her family often jokes: she would be invisible at her own wedding. Such words hurt her, but her family is not as sensitive as she is, and they don’t – never will – understand the restlessness in her heart. This is a girl who dreams about the pastel stars at midnight, who loves the brightness and breeze of the late-summer daytime, who would give all she ever had to others – even her life. This is a girl whose friends – the ones who understand her – take more priority than her family. This is a girl who talks to trees, who apologizes for injuring the wall, who wants to sprout wings and fly, fly away. This is Kim Sijin, and this is her dream world.

Background:

Sijin was born in Seoul to a Chinese mother and a Korean father. She has a sister, Soojin, who is older than her by three yeares. Sijin’s mother absolutely abhorred the towering grayness of Seoul, and her father hated the commuting hell. The last straw, however, was the winter of 2000, when Sijin developed asthma from breathing the pollution. The family packed up and moved to Yongdam, a small, peaceful seaside town, away from all the mess. Her father, however, wasn’t able to escape the commuting entirely, as he found work in Busan, and Sijin’s asthma never really got any better.

As Sijin grew older, she longed to do everything that Soojin could: run around outside, lie down in the sand, and play sports with the other children in town. Instead, she could only sit inside and read, play piano, or draw. She kept her unhappiness inside, and her parents never realized. Sijin grew up having absolutely no friends, her only company Soojin, who would relentlessly bully her. She didn’t really take it to heart; after all, weren’t sisters supposed to be mean to each other?

The year she entered grade school, Sijin met Woo Taesung, who approached her first, and he introduced her to an entire group of friends. Even though he may not be her best friend anymore, she still does have one special place in her heart just for him.

Future aspirations:

Sijin wants no more than to just get out of Yongdam. Well, more like the general Busan area. For her dreams and wanderlust, she wants to travel the world. Of course, no one is going to just give her money to do that, so she plans to become a doctor or a lawyer, make a ton of money, and eventually quit to travel the world. She would, of course, prefer not to go alone, but as of now, it seems like she would have to get a job first. She doesn’t want to go back to Seoul. She’s been back once since they moved, but she ended up having to stay in her aunt’s house all the time. No, Sijin would rather prefer Jeonju or Suwon, or maybe even Jeju. Yeah, that sounds pretty nice. Jeju it is, then.

Relationships:

Kim Soojin – elder sister by three years. When they were little, Soojin would believe herself to be superior and bully Sijin. It didn’t help that their parents placed more attention on Sijin because her asthma. Sijin herself may never have noticed, but by God, Soojin did. Soojin resented her sister for everything, and her attitude only got worse as life went on. However, at Soojin’s insistence of seeing Seoul again, the entire family went back, and as soon as they stepped outside, Sijin started to suffocate. Soojin blamed herself; if she had never wanted to go back, this never would have happened. From then on, she never treated her sister badly again.

Anything else:

- Her nickname is Nabi

- Soojin’s personality is the exact opposite and goes to Inha University

- She used to have a crush on Taesung (if she’s chosen, you can choose whether to pair her up with Taesung or someone else)

- I don’t know if it’s really obvious or not (sorry ;;) but she really likes to daydream. She has a pretty good grip on her life, though, and knows when to be real.

- Her grades are top-notch, but she’s become jaded regarding hard work and school and just wants to escape life

- She’s a bit lost in life, with her parents dictating her life all this while

- She wants to go to a prestigious university, but at the same time, she just wants to stay lowkey and invisible
