background:
HALF OF A WHOLE, A WHOLE HALF ◇ BORN ON AUGUST 28 IN THE YEAR 200 A.N., JUNG chaewon EXITED HER MOTHER'S WOMB A WHOLE 12 MINUTES after HER TWIN SISTER, JUNG seolji. this innocent birth as the younger of the two was what sealed her fate. jung yongso and lee yehyun were forced to choose to keep one daughter and the one they chose was seolji, not chaewon. as soon as she was named and a tearful goodbye was issued, an official whisked her away to the section of the hospital that was dealing with these illicit births. she spent her first week of life in the hospital, awaiting the end of the week, when all the babies who were cast away by their parents would be taken together to get euthanised. what the government didn't know was that these babies were actually getting handed over to north korean loyalists at the border separating what used to be north and south korea where they would live out the early stages of their life.

a small kitten raised by tigers ◇ since forever, chaewon has lived at the border and was raised by north korean loyalists who placed thoughts in her mind about how corrupt the society is with the south korean ruling. she was taught that the north koreans wanted nothing more than to have a world live together in harmony, but the south koreans ruined it with their stupid rules like "only one child is allowed". in any case, chaewon ate up what she was being told. like many others, she felt insecure about herself, thinking "what could i have done better to make my parents pick me instead" even though she was only a harmless little baby. despite this insecurity, she learned to love and trust the loyalists who she believed when they said that they only wanted the best for everyone.

trying to live, living to try ◇ when they were old enough to properly understand the loyalists, chaewon amongst others just like her, were sat down and told about the plan to switch out their respective twins with themselves. all they had to do was observe their twins through cctv cameras that the north korean loyalists managed to gain access to, and prepare themselves for the switching. until the okay is given by the loyalists, these children would just observe and study their twins. chaewon, in particular, was very diligent. her insecurity, though strongly misplaced, was what motivated her. she wanted to be just like the girl that her parents chose to call their daughter. chaewon was one of the loyalists' star pupils and she was one who showed a lot of promise to properly get their actual job done. there are many around her at the border who have very strong doubts about how a girl like chaewon, meek and introverted, can act like a spirited seolji who dares to dream. only time will tell and they do have to remember that there is a reason why the loyalists' have their eyes on her.
