APPEARANCE arai's signature long, dull blonde hair is what sets him apart from most students. he has maroon coloured eyes, something he feels quiet insecure about. arai's natural hair colour was black but due to being a victim of bullying due to his black hair-red eyes combo, he bleached his hair to being a much more lighter colour, blonde. he's received far less bullying due to changing his hair colour, and dyed his roots so that he could maintain his blonde hair. he keeps his unruly hair in a ponytail. arai stands at 178kg tall and weighs 58 kilograms.

VOLLEYBALL EXPERIENCE arai has never played competitive volleyball until he had joined the iwamari high school volleyball club. he knows the basic rules but has played beach volleyball more than indoor volleyball.

ON THE COURT arai isn't the best volleyball player as he had only started playing the sport seriously that year. he depends on his team mates to instruct him on what to do and relies solely on the game plan that he's told before the match begins. like his normal personality, he finds it difficult to remain composed and will get shocked quite easily. arai's speed makes up for his lack of experience on the courts.
spiking is easily his biggest downfall as his jumps differ from time to time, which makes it the setter, whether it be hirako or another person, have a difficult time tossing. although fast, arai's lack of agility makes it difficult to jump for a spike too. he had once tried copying hinata shoyou's quick set from a video he had saw online, but it only proved that he found it hard to turn quickly when running fast. the easiest spike arai can achieve is the cross court spike. his speed is also one of his downfalls as he often runs too fast to receive an stray ball.
whether it be on the court or on the sidelines, arai always makes sure to compliment his team mates. his 'can do anything if you try' and 'happy pill' personality comes in handy during tense times, though get's scolded on the sidelines if he does not realise a tough situation has unfolded.

"i'm a wing spiker, an outside hitter too! i think they're the same thing though." arai spoke, his hand cupped around his chin as if he was thinking. even from an outsider's point of view, you could easily tell that arai was an amateur at volleyball and didn't know much about it. "it's very fun to hit the ball over the net! it's like, so amazing when it just zooms across the court! it's very fun, coach!"
