About Ideal Types...

I love them man. Don't forget that as you read. Sorry if I offended you, but I must vent this somewhere.

...

Let me start this off by saying how much I love BTS. I mean, I love them so much that I made them my ultimate bias group in the place of EXO (even though no love is lost there, EXO is still bae).  I just want to make sure that you understand this rant has nothing to do with my respect for BTS and their music, or how much I love the members. This is just me speaking out from a girl's perspective in hearing the ideal types of the BTS members.

BTS were asked to reveal their ideal types, which in and of itself is a very dangerous thing to do. I understand their apprehension in releasing their personal views on women, because it was well-placed. It is very easy to offend fans (ahem) with their ideal types, even though it is obvious that we will never meet or date any of them. I am not a crazy fan that stalks them and curses them for thinking of other girls (and hopefully you aren't either). But even though I am a BTS fan, I have to speak out as a person for a second.

These are the ideal weights of the girls BTS would like, as I have seen on the internet (credible source, I know):

Kim Seokjin: Doesn't care (bless him)

Min Yoongi (my bias): 43 kg or 94 lbs.

Jung Hoseok: 45 kg or 99 lbs.

Kim Namjoon: 50 kg or 110 lbs.

Park Jimin (my bias wrecker): 40 kg or 88 lbs.

Kim Taehyung: 45 kg or 99 lbs.

Jeon Jungkook: 45 kg or 99 lbs.

I have to factor in that this is partly a cultural thing (as I have been told that Korean women are very small), but goddamn. Just goddamn.

The members of BTS are entitled to their own opinions of women and I respect that. As someone who is not Korean, it appears that Korean beauty standards are much different than those of Americans, especially regarding weight and skin tone. This is not meant in a bad way, but just a statement of my personal observations. Knowing that, I am not sure why these weight standards shocked me so much. Maybe because I myself am overweight, or because I hold them on such a high pedastal that they can do no wrong, and even when they do wrong, I brush it under the rug because they are so pretty and talented that I choose to ignore their flaws.

What I am trying to say here is, I can't help but to be a little disappointed. I am still a BTS fan, but I cannot even describe the devestation I feel. Perhaps I am taking things out of proportion. I do not know the details of the interview or the pressure that BTS felt when answering these questions. I cannot make a complete judgement on anything only knowing half of the story. But as a person, hearing that your bias and bias wrecker's weight standards are about 90 lbs. is pretty much the worst thing ever, especially when I myself consider 130-150 lbs. an ideal weight. But I think this shows the differences between cultures and how that can affect a person's view of things. I brought this up to someone at school today, and they posed the question in reverse: if BTS were Americans and asked the same thing, and they answered around 130 lbs. to 150 lbs., what would be the view of a Korean person on this? Probably about the same. It is from a cultural standpoint that I am viewing this, and I am trying to be as objective as possible.

Let me repeat my earlier statement, not just because I am trying to placate you but because I actually mean it: this does not change how much I love BTS and respect their music. But it does however make me view them differently as a person, and maybe not idolize them so much, which can be a good thing.

I will say this. Men no matter where you go will say they like this and will date someone that is the total opposite. Also, in South Korea there are chubby and big girls there. I have been there twice. When men meet someone that stimulates their mind and their . This "Ideal type" will not matter. Lastly, you can like these Kpop stars, but why would you waste your time feeling hurt about their ideal types. Women have to see their worth before a man (Idol or regular) can see your worth. Develop your character and anything else that requires for you to see your own worth. Koreans are going to be attracted to whom they are attracted to. Don’t get caught up in the game.

Now, regardless of the cultural aspects of this and whether or not 45kg is normal or acceptable in Korea - why the hell would you even need to give your ideal type a weight??? So if you meet a person that's completely fine and you fall in love with, but this person weighs three kilos more, are they not included in the ideal type anymore?
I know of course that would not make a difference for dating etc., but why even give an ideal type a weight? That's where you fill in with "nice personality", "cute smile" etc., but honestly. You can partially talk about their appearance, like "a girl with long hair" idk, but I feel like weight is too much.
An ideal type is supposed to give a general impression, but not an exact picture, and personality traits and maybe some aspects about their appearance are fine, but weight (especially that exact, I mean, 43kg) narrows it down in a completely wrong direction. Of course, that's partially the idealistic "looks shouldn't count that much" which the kpop industry chooses to ignore its existence, but still, a person can be beautiful and weigh more than that.

I wanna know what interview this is from that all of them, not just 1 or 2 but ALL of them (minus Jin, which was very smart of him) gave a very specific number concerning their ideal girls weight. Similarly to you, I consider BTS to be my bias group, like I legit Stan them. But I try to concentrate on their music and performances more than interviews and who their ideal types are, so I can't say those answers effected me personally. Do I think they could have answered the question differently, hell yes! Do I think they should have considered how that would impact their fans, yes! And I understand that there is a cultural difference and Asian women are generally smaller but less than 100 pounds? That's a bit much.

Personally I think they shouldn't have said anything about the weight maybe personality and hair style something like that but weight really ask women her ideal type she mentions now her at weight except he's that he's in shape they don't give specifics numbers those weights were completely unhealthy period. Yes I know that's what is preferred in there cultural and don't get me Iisten to some kpop can't call myself a fan but I like the music , .

But jeez that's a consider under weight and unhealthy those are dangerous weights consider in America yeah it's bad enough now day little girls are being told that being a 0-2 is how we should look and I feel bad little girls there are getting surgery to be considered beautiful instead of there parents telling them there beautiful queens and should be treated as such.

I wish someone would tell these k male celebrities that but then again that's probably all there taught and know

I am not an army but I always find it sad when they give out weights. I'm not sure I believe it 100 %. I know there are differences to our bodies but after having been in Korea, I feel like it's a lie that they're "so small". I don't know, I saw a lot of girls on my height or higher and I'm 167. I weigh 62 kg which is definitely considered normal here.
I feel like - even with cultural standards and physical body differences - that putting a weight on an ideal type is harmful. I think it reinforces the skinny ideal that I, personally, find unhealthy. I agree that there are cultural differences, but I still find Korea's beauty ideal to reinforce a harmful diet and eating disorders. I definitely also understands that a lower weight can be more ideal for a Korean than a European or an African. But like I said, I find it harmful when they put weights on their ideal type. "cute smile", "beautiful eyes", "nice personality" are less harmful for everybody and also - ideal types change. ;;

It also depends if they included the height. Typical girls in Korea are super tiny so that ideal weight may be considered skinny, but too overly skinny if you know what I mean? All my friends are an average of 154-162cm and weigh around 45kg I'm 167cm but I weigh 51kg, and that's considered "healthy" and not skinny in korea. But in the western viewpoint, that would be considered skinny af.
I'm not just saying that or giving an excuse to them because I'm their fan, but because I understand the culture viewpoint on beauty and it's considered very normal in Korea. I'm not saying it wrong to view such skinny girls like that as beautiful, because it's very unhealthy, but they grew up with that kind of mindset so I won't be upset at them for thinking that way.
