Minyoung was born to a Japanese-French Mother and a Korean Father. His parents loved travelling so they didn’t often stay in one country for too long, the family often stayed/visited longer in Japan, Korea and France. He met one of his best friends, Yuta, in Osaka, Japan. They finally settled in Korea after Min-young’s 7th birthday deciding it was no longer ideal since they now had 3 children and said three children spoke a confusing mix language of many others.

After being enrolled into school, Minyoung first thought his first few years in school was boring since he had already learnt quite a few of the subjects on his own or with his siblings. He often whined to his parents, saying that he'd rather take dance or language classes. His father later enrolled him into archery lessons and multiple types of dance, he mainly did hip-hop. His mother insisted that they hold back the language classes since he'd probably speak in whichever language rather than Korean. He later took piano and violin lessons. Basically, his parents are the type of people that will encourage their children when it comes to their dreams and will help them to achieve it, if they can.

While growing up, he was often criticised in the way he dressed. Minyoung was mocked and criticised. There were a few weeks where he spent thinking about what he had done to deserve it or just simply cried. After said weeks, he just thought ' it' and moved on with the help of his family and friends.

Later on, his father developed cancer. He miraculously lived until the day after Mizuki turned 14. The next 6 months were considered his worst since he lost one of his pillars and he wasn't doing well academically anymore. Minyoung considered himself 'lost' until he bumped into Jackson who later told him that they'd formed a group with Yugyeom, Bambam and a new trainee and that the group was going to debut soon. The Hong Kongese invited him to a 'secret' dinner with the group.
