BTS' WINGS Theory (Based On Herman Hesse's Demian)

WINGS Theory Based On Herman Hesse's Demian

First of all, this may not be completely right since it's just a fan theory. From what I've seen, the story links to Demian, a story that represents of an older man on his childhood and for each BTS' short films released, it is actually a story sequence from childhood to manhood — although... What I think, it starts from Jimin's part #LIE while Jungkook's #BEGIN is more like a prologue.

All of the BTS members play as Emil Sinclair, and also some connecting roles.

Jimin is Sinclair when he lies about stealing apples. He lies to his parents/everyone which is the camera. I don't particularly understand the bathtub though. Maybe he's drowning in his own lies, thus, killing him? If so, perhaps, the bathtub in Suga's #FIRST LOVE tells us that Jimin's lies is the cause of Jungkook's death.

V is Sinclair as a child who is tormented and lost, trying to search for himself as he becomes confused and unsure of what he thinks and believes — thus, in I NEED YOU/RUN, he strolls restlessly signifying that he's searching. He is confused of being good or bad. Hence, the mention of Abraxas in the film, which in Demian, is an ancient God who contains both divine and satanic elements. V is also the friend of Sinclair, Knaur, who wishes to commit suicide.

Suga is Sinclair when he is in his rebellious streak and when he is mentored by a Church organist (Jungkook) – the piano represents Jungkook – but the friendship between them two soon ended – in flames (with the fighting whatsoever as Jungkook tries to stop Suga's rebellion in I NEED YOU/RUN) – and it is – for in this case – because Jungkook died in a car accident (in I NEED YOU), thus, the car in #FIRST LOVE.

RapMon is Sinclair when he has learned further things about himself and finds himself approached by a classmate, Knaur, (by V) for guidance. In I NEED YOU/RUN, RapMon brought V to vandalize as in to tell him to do as what his heart desires (similar to what Sinclair tells Knaur, the classmate who seek guidance from him). This is when RapMon realizes the fact that V is similar to him like he's seeing a reflection of himself. RapMon is also Sinclair when Knaur (V) wants to commit suicide. Hence, the telephone connected to RapMon and V.

J-Hope is Sinclair when he meets Demian's mother, Frau Eva, who looks exactly the painting he created unclear as it looks like Demian and, at the same, Beatrice (Jungkook's painting). To be honest, I'm still not clear to what the painting of the forest symbolizes but perhaps it is freedom that they are looking for but is fake. The pills though (I found this hard to realize but I got it now)... Similar to how before Sinclair found Eva, he was depressed. J-Hope is stuck in depression/other negative force (the box or cage he's in) and is fed with pills or anti-depressant or the pills are the cause of the depression? (I don't know... This one is hard) But later, he got out of depression when he realized the painting looks like a person and instead of the pills, he ate snickers (LMAO). Afterwards, he decided to go on search for that person similar to when Sinclair decides to find Eva.

Jungkook is Sinclair when he paints his new love and realizes later that the painting is also Demian which explains why Jungkook's painting looks unclear as it can be any of the BTS boys. And the bird on Jungkook's shirt? It was based on Herman Hesse's quote in Demian:
“The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God’s name is Abraxas.”

Jungkook is the bird and at the end of #BEGIN, it shows that Jungkook has wings. Jungkook is the bird that is to fly to Abraxas.

But, perhaps, it is not to be only Jungkook. The other members as well. They all play Sinclair. And the bird represents Sinclair.

Since Jimin shows a man's childhood, his background is white signifying innocence. Suga's and RapMon's are darker as they become more in thought about life. It is not about people make sins — no. It is about as people grow older, they become more knowledgeable and incline to understanding themselves. And then J-Hope shows that he has find more about himself, but is confused, thus the random colors in the box that was first white. Perhaps, the pills symbolizes knowledge given by others. Hence, the confusion of which to believe and to use.

AND GOD I JUST REALIZED THAT THERE'S THE WORD 'WAR' appearing at the telephone booth in #REFLECTION!! This actually links to Sinclair and Demian going to war!! Gosh... WAR IS DEFINITELY THE NEXT COMEBACK GUYS GOSHHHHHHHHHHHH

I took real effort for this so if you're sharing this theory to other people, don't forget to credit me.

So what do you think of WINGS? Does this theory makes sense?

I really hope the music video's for the new album will give us a better understanding about everything but know bighit..... they will probably only confuse us more :')

Part two lol x)

I'm not sure myself what is it that they are trying to say/portray to us. But since Demian is a coming-of-age story, I assume it ought to be about the stages in youth, how one discovers the truth about himself and inner spirit or what not. At this rate, I'm just waiting for Jin's film, the last one. Some said that Jin is Demian, the self/daemon. I hope BigHit would solve all these confusions (even a tad) with Jin's film and maybe, with their new MV. Anyway, I'm so sorry for the hella long comment x) I hope you could understand what I'm trying to say.

I have the same thought about them representing Sinclair. Though the order of the short films is pretty confusing, I can't determine which one is the first one. I thought the short films were going to be based on the story chapters order. Seems like I was wrong. But yeah, I agree with you about Jimin being the first, young Sinclair. As for J-Hope, the snickers represents chocolate in Demian. Because whenever Sinclair did something right or good, his mother would give him chocolate as a reward. However, when Sinclair began to lie to his parents and sisters about Kromer, he once fell ill and his mother, worried about his condition, gave him chocolate. Sinclair didn't eat it, though. Before I forgot, apart from Jungkook, J-Hope got wings as well in Mama (during the music was played). There's also one thing to be considered about Suga's film. The whistle sound. The whistle could be heard in both Suga's and Jungkook's film. Based on what I know about Demian, Kromer used to whistle everytime he called Sinclair. Sinclair was kinda afraid with the sound because he knew when he heard the whistle, Kromer was going to bully him. Remember that moment when Suga heard the whistle and he looked scared/worried? Oh, about the bathtub, pills, piano, I'm not sure about that. Since they're seen during HYYH era perhaps they're trying to recycle those things and create another story (Wings) to make a connection with the new era. In V and Rapmon's film, there were scenes from Danger too (V cutting his hair, Rapmon tattooed his arm).
