Let's talk about ships

"Shipping" refers to the phenomenon; a "ship" is the concept of a fictional couple; to "ship" a couple means to have an affinity for it in one way or another; a "shipper" or a "fangirl/guy" is somebody significantly involved with such an affinity; a "Shipping war" is when two ships contradict each other, causing fans ...

This has been floating around in my brain for months. Mostly after all the imploding that went on after the April 1st news of Kaistal. People everywhere LOST.THEIR.MINDS.  Kaisoo shippers (I'm one, but for me it doesn't have to be real, I just enjoy their interaction and the fanfic, but if it were real, that would be awesome), Kryber shippers,  Taekai shippers, Kai-stans, and Krystal-stans started duking it out on tumblr and in forums. Shippers on AFF started bailing on their stories.  The interwebs became battlegrounds. Blogs are still being attacked by people not in that particular fandom/ship and some really stupid stuff is being said about the ships, the fans, and the shippers. It hasn't died down and I've seen some seriously messed up stuff going on.

Now, with the new pics of Kai and Krystal out on a date in the escape room (who knows for sure when it was taken, but damn that's a real invasion of their privacy), it's all at defcon 1 again. And damn people, what the hell! I mean, what the hell!

First. These people, however they choose to pair up, are humans, who have a right to live their lives to the fullest, happiest, healthiest limits. Who they are involved with and what they do in their private lives in none of your or my business. Their obligation to us as entertainers ends with their performance/creative output. If they are straight or gay, involved or not involved, again, it's none of our business.

Now, to the idiots out there that are bashing the kaisoo/kadi shippers, because they are "delusional". Saying these guys couldn't possibly be gay, because " LOOK HE'S DATING A GIRL!"  Whatever. Not that I am saying either of these guys are gay, but if they were, do you really think they would out themselves? Do you really think that they and their companies would not do whatever possible to hide this fact, including having them date a girl? Not only would a gay scandal ruin their lives individually, but it would also ruin the careers of the other 7 members their group. Think about how it used to be with old Hollywood stars. Famous, secretly gay actors were paired up with woman to conceal their uality. Some (Most notibly, Rock Hudson), married and even had children. Their publicity teams invented rumors to hide the fact. Just like it is very possible that Kai and Krystal really ARE dating, it's just as possible that Kai could be gay. We don't know the truth. We only know what the media is feeding us. On either side of this coin, one thing is true, things in the entertainment industry is often portrayed in a way that is most lucrative to their companies. The truth is often something all together different.

"Did she just say that Kai and DO are gay?" Nope. I'm just saying, even if an artist were gay, do you really think we would ever know, unless it was a forced outing? Especially in S. Korea, being gay is a career ruining thing. Many entertainers who outted themselves have even ended up killing themselves. If someone is gay in S. Korean entertainment, don't expect them to come out loud and proud, at least not for another 10 years, if ever. I liken the lgbtq community in S. Korea to how it was in the US in the 1970's. It's starting to make a noise, but they are a long way from being acknowledge, much less considered acceptable. Still today, even in the US, we have several very famous celebrities that are still firmly in the closet and most likely to stay there for their entire lives. With the vast number of kpop entertainers or k actors out there, statically some of them are going to be gay or lesbian. But with the conservative climate, it will be a closely guarded secret.

Shipper wars are normal in fan communities.  Fans on opposite sides of any fandom tend to argue about anything and everything. (Let's not get started about the wars between Star Wars fans and Trekkies, because those get brutal) But some of these shippers/fans are going overboard. Why does someone else's ship threaten yours? It's FICTION! I adore Kaisoo, but I've climbed aboard the Chansoo ship a time or two and enjoyed the ride. I don't feel like I've been unfaithful at all. (Chanyeol is my EXO bias)

Now, to the shippers that abandoned their fanfic ships, just because they found out oppa or unnie wasn't gay. Whether they are gay or not does not mean you still can't enjoy fictional stories. That's right. FICTIONAL!  Ships are about pairing people that aren't likely to be real, but you see possibility in it and in your brains, start to invent scenarios with them to amuse you and others. Ships don't have to be real to sail. I assure you my Kaisoo, Baekyeol, Hunhan, 2Min, and many many other ships sail swiftly, side by side. It's all about your personal enjoyment. So what if everyone isn't on your team? I personally like black licorice, but other people's disgust with it doesn't make me enjoy it any less. I don't really like coffee, but I don't stalk people's coffee blogs to tell them the are delulu for liking coffee, because tea is "REAL". Just enjoy what you enjoy.  If you don't like what I don't like, fine, but don't step on my cloud!

If Kai and Krystal are dating. I hope they are dating well and happily. Because it's so hard for a celebrity to enjoy normal life mile markers in their world. If Kai is gay or if Kai and Kyungsoo are a couple, I hope they are never ever found out, unless they choose to out themselves. Being gay is already a difficult life to live for many. And to live it as a celebrity, in S. Korea is nearly impossible. Regardless of their uality, I hope that they are living, loving, and enjoying their lives. Independently or together. ;)

To the fanfic writers. I really enjoy many of your stories. I enjoy many ships. It gives me a a bit joy, especially on rough days. Don't abandon them, just because they aren't reality. There's a reason it's called fanfiction and not fan-reporting. xoxo

well said. i'm a huge shipper of kaisoo too, but . . . . there's still a wall between delusions and reality so, well, and i don't think kai is gay, per se, but it is also not surprising for him to date.
