xuan is a box of surprises, her actions and personality surprises people at time. anywho, she's a very humorous girl - humorous as in always spouting lame jokes that make no sense and then gets mad when no one laughs at them. she's always laughing at her own jokes while people look at her weirdly. then everyone laughs not because she's funny but because she looks and sounds like a dying seal. growing up, she was always very open and free about the things she said. sure, there were times she was afraid what she said would get her in trouble, but she'd say it anyways just because. she's very honest and isn't afraid to speak her mind. it may seem rude and inconsiderate on her part, but she doesn't mind that she doesn't have filter on what to say. she'd want people to be honest with her so she's honest with them no matter what. she's very selfless, she grew up with the mindset that others' lives mattered more than hers and so she would always put others before herself. you'd always see that she's the first offer a helping hand no matter how difficult the job is. she's all in for helping people. she loves to be there for people and help people as much as possible. she adapts to any lifestyle very easily. and has always been quick to learn her surroundings and form to it. it came in very handy for her throughout her learning process growing up. 

she can be a wonderful person at times, but she can be a huge as well. the girl is very very short-tempered, she get angered easily about almost anything. especially if it's where people question her about why she chooses to do the things she does. once she's angry, she'll cuss up a storm and slam things. she'll practically get mad at anything anyone does or says. so at times it's better for people to just leave her alone until she 'cools down'.  she's very impatient, she hates waiting around and dragging things. she wants things done quick and easy and clean. and since she's a quick-learner/ adaptable, she tends to want to move on whatever it is because she's got it down. when people say, "that's not a good idea," or "you shouldn't do that." her brain translates that, "DO IT! DO IT! DON'T LET ANYONE STOP YOU!" she's very extremely irrational, so she never thinks before she does anything or listens. even though she's young, she's got a quite a mind, pretty erted. at times, when people are talking, she'll insert a few ual innuendos just because she felt like it.

zhang xuan, vita, xu jiang - whatever her parents felt like calling her, was born in boulogne-billancourt, france to a taiwanese father and a vietnamese mother. she was the second and last child born, as well as being the only girl. her parents were both originally athletes, her father was a soccer player for taiwan's national team while her mom was gymnast on vietnam's national team. so her parents always wanted their kids to grow up and be athletes just like them, her older brother, Pierre, had interest in basketball and took on that and grew to love it. xuan was an undecided child about sports, there were times she'd love watching it and playing, but she hated taking it on as something more than just an occasional hobby. she loved watching her dad play soccer and coach soccer to other kids when she was younger. so her dad thought she'd love the sport and put her in when she was five. she loved the sport at first and quickly fell out of it and didn't want to do sports. her grandfather who lived with her at the time would show her music of him and his band when he was younger and at that time she showed her sudden love for music. she'd always sit and listen to chinese, vietnamese artists and grew in love with the classical songs to pop songs. 

when she lived in france at the time, she came into her fourth grade class excited to tell her friends how she'd one day become a singer. that earned her a laugh from everyone. upset she went home crying to her grandpa and he just comforted her trying to get her to stop crying and that it'd be ok and she'd become one. at age 10, her family decided to move to taiwan to leave just for work purposes. there, she told her grandfather, she had wanted to breakout in the industry and start singing, auditioning, doing all those things that could get her name out. telling her parents about her dream one day, her parents immediately disapproved. seeing her upset, her grandfather would take her to singing classes behind her parents back without them knowing and created excuses like, "we're at the library, tutoring, etc." just so she could get time in to work on her singing. but feeling she was too young to be sent away to do anything in the industry, her grandfather knew there were the occasional snakes in the industry and didn't let her go out of her way until she reached the age of 15. a year later, when she was 11, she decided to tell her parents about her going to singing lessons and occasional dance lessons, secretly. her parents were upset at first, but soon then realized how much work has paid off for her and just decided to let her continue doing what she wanted. when she turned 16, she was strolling the streets of taiwan with her friends and hanging out and eating ice cream. 

"so how's your career coming along?" her classmate, fei asked. "don't know where to start." xuan shrugged as she paid the cashier and they left with ice cream in their hands. until they were stopped by two people who were dressed in nice suits. xuan at first was confused, until they introduced themselves as the representatives of SM Entertainment and were travelling and look for people to cast as trainees and wanted xuan and that if she agreed to give them a call. after that, she went home and told her family, excited - they all agreed, letting her go to the casting audition. after passing, she was accepted into SM Entertainment as a trainee and flew to Korea to trainee. a few months into the training process, she got a phone call during break that her grandfather had passed away. she was upset and slowly, during monthly evaluations she began to not improve if anything worsen. her instructor seeing so, yelled at her and threatened she'd be kicked out if she didn't get her act together. that being a wake up call, she decided to work hard to debut just for her grandfather, the person who introduced her to it all.

– loves to write short poems and poetries
– she writes in her free time to relieve stress

– her famous jokes are, "how does a vampire girl flirt? by batting her eyes."
– she doesn't express her feelings really well and hates being all mushy and gushy with people, she instead of saying I love you, etc ; she says : "i want to punch you.", "wow, you took a huge L.", "i hate you so much.", "lose your dominant hand already," etc.
– hates spiders and freezes up and starts crying when she sees one until someone comes over to her and moves her, because she won't move if she sees a spider
–has a habit of sleep walking, so she'll often walk to her roommates room or whatever and climb into bed and snuggle with them to sleep
– she's a huge hopeless romantic
– doesn't look left or right when crossing the street
– curses a lot
–  has a habit of switching between languages, especially mixing vietnamese and taiwanese together or with french

relationships.  

– #angelonhershoulder :: jung jaehyun (19) / main vocal + NCT U / dorky, sarcastic, humorous/ 10 +  when xuan first joined the company, her english wasn't the best but she wasn't the worse at it either. but she was pretty quiet at first and didn't talk with anyone. jaehyun was still a trainee under sm rookies at the time, seeing that no one was talking to her, he made the effort to come and be her friend. she was a bit iffy about opening up to him at first, but after so much of his effort of constantly talking to her, she and him got close quite sooner then expected. jaehyun would help her with her korean at times and she'd help him with mandarin. the two became best friends, they'd make fun of people together, eat together, etc. they practically talked about anything together. he's also an angel to her because he's always saving her from getting in trouble because of her irrational actions and occasionally knocks some sense into her. 

– #sisterialwayswanted :: joy (19) / lead rapper + rv / blunt, carefree, humorous / 8 + after becoming friends with jaehyun, joy eventually came after. hearing stories of jaeyun that xuan was actually really a fun person, joy decided to become xuan's friends. xuan opened up to joy very quickly just because she wanted friends and didn't want to be lonely. joy and her clicked very well, sharing the same weird jokes and blunt comments about things. sometimes people say they were a matchmade in heaven. even though joy is really busy because of her red velvet schedules, she never forgets to occasionally try and catch up with her younger friend by taking her out and etc. 

– #mom+sister  ::  amber liu  (23) / main rapper +  f(x)  / carefree, humorous, caring / 9 + amber enjoyed meeting new trainees and becoming their friends and taking care of them. when she saw an unfamiliar face in the training room, she immediately walked in and introduced herself. she was the one who began to teach xuan the ropes of the companies, how to get out of trouble, avoid this and that. she'd always constantly nag xuan especially about her health and all and make sure she was eating well. she was like a mom for the time being while xuan was in korea.

of course, SM Entertainment was known for scouting and casting random kids on the streets to be future talents. xuan was lucky to be one of those kids. however, the first few months of training was quite hard for xuan as she was still trying to get used to the surroundings and schedules and school. she had felt like an outsider at first because no one would talk to her. but she thought back about how she wanted to achieve her dream one day not to make friends through this process. if she wanted to make friends she would've stayed in taiwan. she had made two friends the after a good month, jaehyun and joy. those two were like siblings to her and it made life a bit easier for her, helping her adapt to the language and customs. at monthly evaluations, she easily worked hard and aced them. sometimes instructors would have considered her to debut as a solo - even if it was all a joking matter their comment, she still thought if she continued working hard she'd debut in no time. 

however, when her grandfather passed away a few months into her trainee life, she grew very upset and distracted from practice. two monthly evaluations in a row, she slipped down ranks. her instructor grew surprised that the little girl who wanted nothing more than to debut began to slip away. so he yelled at her, threatened she'd be kicked out if she didn't get her game together. that was a wake up call, so she decided to do this for her grandfather who was a role model for her. and slowly, she began to rise up again in the rankings and get back to normal, being the great trainee she was. 

she didn't get along with everyone in the trainee rooms, in fact her temper was always messed around by everyone. they loved seeing the foreign child get angry and not do anything about it. until one day, as they were practicing a dance, xuan got fed up with the constant snickers she heard from other trainees about her, and stopped everyone. "should we start over?" a trainee asked. "did someone dance in your spot on accident, xuan?" they asked confused as to why she'd stop in the middle. xuan turned around and opened facing the trainees she didn't really get along well with a told them off. everyone was shocked, xuan grew tired of people occasionally walking all over her. it became a growing itch practically on xuan, that if she heard something about her or someone said something about her, she'd tell them off. 

"alright take ten," their dance instructor said. all the girls dropped to the floor and closed their eyes, some went to the restroom, etc. all her friends had debuted already so she sat in the back of the room, closing her eyes and plugged in her headphones. the instructor came back in, "oh, i forgot to tell you girls about the global project." she said. everyone perked up and listened as she explaine it was. "well, SM has many possible representatives, but they said you guys should pick which trainee is the best representative." the girls nodded as they watched their instructor leave. she sat back, still resting, watching all the girls talk amongst them who should represent. "xuan!" one of the girls smiled brightly, "you be the representative!!" xuan took her headphones off, "me? are you sure?" she said. "yeah!! i mean, you know more languages than the girls in this room!" the trainee chuckled. "you guys agree right?" everyone around her nodded. "w-well, alright if that's cool with you guys." she mumbled, shy a bit. soon later the instructor came back in again and they told her their choice and she later recommended xuan to the CEO. xuan had the definite potentional to be amazing on the show.

Why do you think you were picked to take part in this global project? in the company, in my opinion, I feel that I'm the most diverse...? in a way [laughs a bit] because like i mean Amber sunbae and Henry sunbae are as well, both taiwanese and american/ canadian. but i'm taiwanese and vietnamese and born in france [smiles brightly] not something you see everyday in SM. 

What makes you different compared to the other 6 girls? makes me different? I don't know really... my honest comments? [laughs again] im kidding, i just feel like a lot of them aren't very honest in general and act a certain in front of the cameras. but I don't like that so I'm very open and people would see how I really am rather than just the cameras. [flips hair a bit] does that even count as being different?? [laughs out loud]

What can you bring to Coalesce? anything coalesce wants me to bring honestly. [shrugs] throw anything at me and I can bring it, it might be young but just watch me. [winks]

What does Coalesce mean to you?. a way to get my name out, to be known for what im good at or potentiallyat. it gives me a chance to shine even though im still a trainee. [nods and folds hands together and smiles]

Do you think this is a good way to get foreigners to join kpop? yes, it is. a very good concept, if you think about it. [claps hands] diversity, whoo!
