PERSONALITY TRAITS — [+; humorous, selfless, honest, quick-learner] [-; short-tempered, impatient, irrational, flirt]
"meows it going guys? hahaha, jokes."
ELABORATION —
• sarang is an odd box of surprises, she's quite all over the place at times. she had always been known as the humorous one amongst her friends aka the one with the tiest jokes ever and then gets angry when no one laughs. her jokes are crazy lame and make no sense ever. she's always sitting by herself and laughing at her own joke. but then everyone starts laughing, not because they realize her jokes are funny but because of the fact that she sounds and looks like a dying seal while laughing. the girl is extremely selfless, she always felt like others lives mattered more than hers so she would often put others around her first before herself. you'll always see that she's the first person to offer a helping hand to anyone that needs it, no matter how difficult the job is and no matter who it is. whether y'all are strangers or super close friends. sarang's mouth basically has no filter ever. she's the most honest person ever and says whatevers at the top of her head. she doesn't really care if it hurts anyone what she says. she'd rather let people know the truth then say a petty lie. she doesn't like sugarcoating anything she says, just gotta be straight up. sometimes it comes off as rude and inconsiderate - but she feels that she'd want people to be honest with her so she'll be honest with people first. she's a very quick-learner, since growing up, she's been able to look at things and imitate it quickly and get used to it and fix it along the way. it's very rare she'll be left behind on anything.
• sarang may seem like a box of flowers at first, but not until you reach her bad side. she's kinda like a ticking time bomb. anything could set her off really. she gets angered really easily, whether it's questioning her intelligence, or her leadership skills or anything people do and they know it'll piss her off or ruining her day, etc, her mood goes from chill to satan. she's quick to bark back and argue with anyone once she's angry. people tell her to calm (which is the biggest mistake you can do) now that person's under fire with her for no reason. once she's angry, sorry you're stuck with satan all day (or a few hours or minutes depending on what happened). she tends to stay quiet and ignore everyone or treat them like or starts cursing up a storm and getting mad everyone for no reason. she's very impatient. she hates having to wait around, she just wants to get things quick and easy and clean. once she's finished something, she's moving on, she's not waiting around, she hates it. when people say things like, "no, sarang that's bad." or "sarang, that's not safe." etc along the lines of saying 'no', it's not a good idea right? to her - in her head it changes to, "YOU GO GIRL! DON'T LET ANYONE STOP YOU!" so then she does it and she does things without thinking and sometimes it could get her into some trouble. sometimes she does things out of impulse. her name being sarang meaning love, she's never had anything to do with it or wanted to yet. she's such a flirt and loves to flirt with anything that breathes. just kidding, just certain people she flirts but the rest are unintentionally. she has been in one committed relationship before and it fell to be a flop, after that one relationship, she hadn't stuck around on any other and just flirted, charming guys along the way and having the occasional hook up.
BACKGROUND + FAMILY LIFE —
• born in paris, france on the 31st of may, '98 - she was the second and last kid born with an older brother named kang taewoo. her family had always been very athletic, her father was a soccer goalie on korea's national team and her mom was gymnast on korea's national team back when they were young. because of that reason, her parents always wanted her to become an athlete just like them following after their footsteps. her brother had taken on baseball and her dad wanted her to be in soccer just like he was. when she was four, she was put into soccer, she hadn't really fallen in love for it like her father did so soon after a year, she was taken out. at time, her grandfather was living with her family, one day, he had shown her all of his trophies and photos of him being a swimmer when he was younger and seeing videos as well. mesmerized, she asked her parents if she could try swimming as the next sport. her parents agreed to let her learn and swim. she soon grew and fell in love with the sport more than ever. around her household, it's pretty busy, her brother had to always be taken to baseball practice, while her parents were of coaching the next generation of olympic soccer players and gymnasts. while sarang had always been stuck around with her grandpa who took care of her the most out of anyone in her family.
to say she was close to her parents wasn't exactly true, the huge family photos plastered on the walls of her homes were pretty deceiving to the majority of people who visited them. she had never spent actual 'real family bonding time' with her parents, since they were out coaching and hanging with other people's kids rather than their own. the only time they'd be together was during dinner and that was it. as she grew older, her parents and her began to speak less because both parties were busy with their respected sports and jobs. while her brother didn't entirely forget about her, he wouldn't go to practice on weekends just so that he could hang out with his sister and take care of her for their grandfather. but even so, she wasn't as close with them as she was with their grandfather. when she reached age 12, she was put on the gold level team, which was higher ranking then silver and bronze and basically at national youth team level, she was also the youngest. so she took that pride in her heart. she came home and told her parents of it, but they completely ignored her and didn't celebrate her accomplishment. instead they spoke about how one of their students were on the national youth team and all. that upset her so much. her parents excited over some kid who wasn't even their blood. when she was 13, her parents decided that they'd move to korea so that her grandfather could spend his last few living years in his motherland. that upset her, leaving everything she had in france behind to a new country where she knew nobody.
moving to korea only made her relationship with her parents worse, she began to grow defiant and didn't listen to her parents. she never hated her parents and she probably never will but she disliked the fact that some stranger's kid's accomplishments meant more to them than her accomplishments. when she began living in korea, she took off swimming for a good month. her grandpa knew she was upset about her parents and convinced her back into swimming because it was something she loved and genuinely enjoyed. "ok, grandpa. it's only for you." she began swimming again and after the next few months seeing the same routine from her parents ignoring her and talking about some other kid got her fed up. she had cried about it and her grandpa comforted her telling her it'd be all okay and as long as she had her grandpa, everything would be fine. she grew up and it became to the point where her routine was: wake up, go to school, practice at school for two hours, go home and rest for two hours, go to night practice from a swim team outside of school, go home and eat alone or with her brother and grandpa, homework and sleep. in that routine, she never fit her parents in anymore. they'd say good morning or hi and part their ways. or she'll text her parents if she needed money for this and that, or if her parents would text her asking where her brother was and that was about it. their family relationship ended to just that. occasionally her parents would try and talk to her but she'd give short answers, that would frustrate them and the family would end up fighting. when she hit high school and joined her school's swim team and was placed on varsity as a freshmen, that year was as well the year her grandfather passed away. she was upset and cried a lot, her swimming potential began to stop being great and slowly due her grandfather dying of natural causes. her coach began to noticed and yelled at her, knocking some sense into her that she'd be kicked off if she didn't work hard. that was a wake up call and she began to go back to normal and work hard just for her grandpa. the person who introduced her to the sport and was there for her since the beginning.
without her grandfather gone now, she's become very lonely at home, her brother's gone off to college, continuing with baseball so they stopped talking. occasionally he'd come surprise her at practice or text her how much he'll be there for her knowing her parents won't. her parents began to start leaving and going on overseas trips because their students had competitions worldwide and wasn't at home as often. so she would either always be out with friends til late at night or at practice late at night doing things on her own. nothing else mattered to her anymore no family feelings or anything it was just swim and school and close friends. focusing on just swimming all her life, the past few years in her hs life, she's won the most medals and tournaments on the swim team. when they were picking for captains for the next year, she was picked. even though it should have been a senior, the coach felt more comfortable with her because of her accomplishments and attitude.
RELATIONSHIPS —
"girl, why won't you tune YOUR UGLY CELLO YOU FAT HUMAN."
• #bestbuddies - yoo kihyun (18) - junior - kind hearted, soft, vengeful, intelligent - sarang wasn't always a #swimmer4lyfe type person, she had other interests and hobbies that she just never told anyone. because being mysterious is always the best. she played two intruments, one was the saxophone and one was the cello. in school through her hs career, she had always had the band class but she never told anyone only because she knew what type of image people had when they found out you were in band. so only the kids in band knew and kept a secret. she met kihyun their freshmen year, she was caring in her heavy cello case and kihyun looked up and immediately helped her carry it in. everyone was staring at her and giving her confusing looks like even she plays an instrument? kihyun had introduced her to the band director and some people who also played cello so she wouldn't be alone. he was just making her feel at time. the two are quite close with each other, they'll text and chat and can talk to each other about almost anything. in class, they're always acting like es together and make the ugliest faces and take photos of it as each others hobbies. the two are close with each other to where all they have is a love-hate relationship and all they do is throw insults at each other and try and roast each other.
"c'mon, if you didn't win your meet today, you'll win a different one. don't be upset, it's okay to lose."
• #mentor+workoutbuddy - son hyunwoo (19) - senior - quiet, kind, caring - to say athletes only hang with other athletes is a bit of a stretch, i mean kihyun and sarang are friends. anyways, even though hyunwoo and sarang are on two different sports, the two met during weight room after school. basketball and swim just happened to be using the weight room the same time that day. hyunwoo was just a sophomore and sarang was just a freshmen when she met him. she was on the pull up bar, working her upper body when hyunwoo had noticed that she doing it wrong. and so he fixed her. "ah, really? i got it, thank you, sunbae." she smiled. there would time she'd be too lazy to workout and would just sit in the corner when the coach wasn't there. "yah, get up lazy." hyunwoo kicked her foot. "the only way to become a worthy athlete is by putting in lots of effort and not giving up." she shot him a glare, "sunbae, i'm not giving up, i'm just exhausted." she frowned. "c'mon, exercise fatty." he said dragging her up. the two workout together as well outside of the weight room class and go to the gym together on the weekends to workout. he tends to encourage her to keep her going if there are times she just wants to quit and give up.
"i swear, i was friends with the whole school before i moved. im not a loser."
• #favoritenoob - im changkyun (16) - freshmen - shy, awkward, quiet - no changkyun isn't the swim team's waterboy. (what need is there for a waterboy if you're living in water???) changkyun showed up to the swim team's after school practice one time and went looking for the coach. no one wanted to talk to changkyun or anything to ask what he was doing because he was the kid so they pushed the swim team's captain to talk to him. "yah, talk to him dude.", "he looks lost." sarang sighed, "aish! ok, i'll do it, stop bugging me." she muttered and walked out of the locker room and towards the people. "are you lost?" she asked. changkyun turned around, a bit scared. "uh, could i ask who you are?" he replied. "swim team's captain, kang sarang. and you are?" she peered at him. "im changkyun, i'm the new transfer and stuff... i was looking for your coach!" he mumbled. "coach isn't here today, im in charge today." she said. changkyun then looked down at the floor as if he was upset. his face looked shy yet sad and she instantly felt bad. "yah, head up new kid. it's okay to be new, you're still young." she pushed his chin up. "yeah..." he rubbed the back of his neck. "but i'll come back another time. see you miss kang," he said and turned. her face instantly frowned, "yah! MISS? YAH I'M STILL A STUDENT!" she shouted. "ah, i'm sorry, i meant sunbae!" he smiled cheekily and left. she turned to see everyone in the locker room giggling at her. "yah, you're gonna laugh??" she asked. "in the pool, give me ten laps!" she huffed. after that meeting, she started to see him around school more often. one time, seeing him sit alone at lunch, she told her friends she wasn't gonna eat with them and walked over to sit with him. "eat, eat. i can be your friend." she said as she placed her food down. "you don't have to be my friend because i'm lonely." "you're right," she chuckled. "i'm being your friend because i'm lonely." she laughed. so she spent the lunch getting to know the kid and make him feel somewhat okay. she gave him his number, "look, if you need to know the ropes around this school or need someone to talk too, i'm here changkyun." she smiled and waved him goodbye.
GPA — 3.6 - 3.8 gpa [decides to work hard in school if swim doesn't ever work out for her in the super future]
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES — captain of the swim team + school's orchestra band
DETENTIONS & SUSPENSIONS — detentions (5) ; those four detentions have been because she was always sleeping in class, she's frequently tired from coming home late from practice, the fifth detention was her sophomore year, when they were taking a chemistry test, her partner didn't know the answer to the question and since she's always helped her friends cheat on the test, she finally ended up getting caught. even though her friend admitted to talking during the test and asked for the asnwer, the teacher didn't care and just wrote them both off for a detention.

PLOTLINE + BACKUP — yoo kihyun + shin hoseok
SQUAD POSITION + BACKUP — captain + base
REASONS THEY GOT THE POSITION — she was on a sport, other than hyunwoo. only difference was she was the captain of her own sport too. so they figured it'd make sense for her to be captain because if she's captain for a sport team and she's good at it, then she must be good at it for another sport team.
