Mass Shootings in 2016

Let me just tell you this first:

A mass shooting, according to the FBI, is "four or more shot and/or killed in a single event [incident], at the same general time and location, not including the shooter."

There have been 132 mass shootings in the US in recent history.

In the same period, 207 people have been killed and 542 have been injured.

To clarify, "recent history" in this context means "since January 1st this year".

We're not even half way this year and already, in the US, there have been 207 people killed.

In 2015, there were 330 mass shootings, with 367 killed and 1318 injured.  That means, since 1st January 2015, there have been 574 killed and 1860 injured.

In 2014, there were 280 mass shootings, with 272 killed and 1120 injured.  That brings the total to 846 dead and 2980 injured since 1st January 2014.

742 mass shootings.  846 lives lost in almost 30 months.  28.2 people every month.  On average, almost one person every day.  Killed.  By guns.

(Figures come from Gun Violence Archive - http://www.shootingtracker.com/Main_Page)

Now, quick question ... how many more people need to be killed before we realise that we might need to introduce controls and restrictions for guns?

"But gun controls won't work!"

No, you're right!  Because the UK has strict gun controls, and since 1st January 2014, the number of mass shootings here is horrendous......ly less than the US.  By 742.  There have been 742 less mass shootings in the UK.

Wait ... doesn't that make it NO shootings?

Why, yes!  In fact, the last mass shooting in the UK was 2nd June 2010.  12 people killed, 11 injured.  Before that, the last massacre in the UK was the 7/7 bombings.  7th July 2005.  Before that, we have Dunblane in 13th March 1996.

(Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Great_Britain)

In the last 20 years in the UK, we've had three massacres, one of which was a co-ordinated terrorist attack.  Three.

In the US since 1st June 2016, there have been 12.  An average of one every single day.  One.  Every.  Day.

How many more people need to be killed, leaders of the NRA?  How many?

My thoughts, exactly! Unfortunately, there is the "vocal minority" that just loooooooooooves their stupid guns and throws a ridiculous fit if you even mention restrictions of any kind.
