born in paris, france to a korean dad and vietnamese mother and being the oldest child who's the total opposite of her parents. first of all, lets get this cleared - having the boy name jae joon was given to her by her older cousin who lived with her family. he thought when she was first born, she had no hair - so it must have been a guy so he gave her a boy name. ok - moving on, both her parents were athletes when they were in their twenties. her dad was soccer goalie on korea's national team for a few years, while her mom was a swimmer on vietnam's national team when she was younger. growing up, they wanted her and her siblings to take after them on the athletic path. they'd put her in soccer to play and she, taking after her dad, became very good at playing soccer - however she didn't feel a connection with it. but never told her father and kept playing soccer. her grandfather lived with her throughout her years growing up, he always showed her music of Seotaji & Boys, H.O.T, Shinhwa, etc. she grew and fell in love with the amazing music production and sounds. she fell head over heels for music. one day going to school, she told all her friends in her fourth class, "you guys! i'm gonna become a kpop star one day just like them!" she said as she held out a CD of Fin.K.L. that earned herself laughters and teases from other students in the class. upset, she went home and cried her eyes out to her grandfather. he told her they were just jealous she had her life thought out already.
in 2006, when she was 12 - her parents decided to go back to south korea to live so her grandfather could spend his last few years in his motherland. at that time, she thought that she'd finally take advantage of this chance to work hard and become an idol. when she turned 13, she told her parents of her wishes and dreams of becoming an idol - instantly they disapproved because of the fact they wanted her to be an athlete. upset, she'd lock herself in her room for a few days. seeing her upset - her grandpa thought it'd be a good idea to sign her up for dancing classes. without telling the parents. since they'd usually have to coach other athletes from 2pm - 10pm, everyday but weekends, her grandpa would take care of her as well as take her to dance class everyday after school for three hours. on the weekends she'd be home with her family, occasionally in her room practicing rapping. her parents were quite clueless, occasionally suspiscious bc they'd be home before her and her grandpa and not see them around but they usually reply with, "we went to the library and then went for ice cream, son - don't worry, i'm taking care of jae joon well." about a year later, her younger brother joon, went to get the mail, seeing that it said "SM Entertainment" written in bold font and addressed to jae joon. confused, he handed it to his parents.
that's how they found out of her auditioning to SM Entertainment and goal to become an idol. the letter had explained how they finally accepted jae joon as a trainee and had a contract with it. furious, her parents were angry she were to do something like that behind their backs - but her grandpa hushed them and knocked some sense that she worked hard while maintaining good grades and deserved to reach her goal. her family didn't really talk to each other for a few days until finally realizing if she had worked that hard to train and keep it a secret from them and made it this far, might as well. they signed the contract and in 2008, she was admitted into SM Entertainment through audition for her amazing dancing skills, since she was a quick learner she could watch dances and learn them within the hour if she put work and extra effort into it. a few months later into training, during break she had recieved a phone call from her parents explaining her grandpa had passed away, hence that resulted the next few monthly evaluations for jae joon to stop improving - she was upset her inspiration left. she began to get her act together when one of the coaches yelled at her and threatened to have SM drop her from the company if she didn't get her act together. and therefore it was a wake up call for her, from there she began to train and work hard just for her grandpa and nothing else mattered.

• frenemies - kang seulgi (21) - idol / rv - blunt, cocky, two-faced - seulgi and jae joon never get along with each other, but their relationship is the weirdest ever. the two will talk behind each others back and call each other out, but when they see each other in person, they're "omo, dongsaeng!", "omo, eonni! how are you" etc. and talk as if nothing ever happened between them. she hates that the girl is always lying or manipulating others but no one would listen to jae joon since seulgi is somewhat an angel to all of them. however, having to be members - they're forced to get along on camera and off (just for the sake bc irene asked no fighting).

TRAINEE LIFE when jae joon first joined SM to train, she was only 14 at the time. she went in with an open mindset, knowing the difficulty of it and it's competition with hundreds of other trainees trying to become the next big thing. when she first came in, she didn't talk to anyone. it wasn't because she was scared but because she didn't feel the need to communicate with anyone, she came there to become an idol not socialize. if she wanted to just socialize and make friends she would have never auditioned. around the company within the trainees, she was dubbed the or the second krystal jung particularly because of her face not changing expression and always having a cold aura. eventually as she progressed through the months, when her grandfather's death came - she began to stop improving. seeing this happen, one of the trainees came up to her told her one day, "whatever that's up with you, fix it. don't let drag you down. you have talent." and with that, the course of the next few weeks she got back to normal and improved even better than before. jae joon can't -talking very well [even though she talks too], if she finds out from other trainees that someone is as well talking on her - it'll stay stuck on her mind all day long. leading to sometimes during practice, she'll stop everyone from training.
"what - what's wrong? did you mess or want to add so-" trainees asked.
"yah! [insert name here] i swear to god, i told myself i'd let it pass this time. who do you think you are saying all those things about me." jae joon shouted. if she didn't confront the person it'd bother her to death and cause her not to practice well bc her mind would be on that. jae joon would never be afraid to call someone out they did wrong, it's just a matter of whether people believe her or not. sometimes she'd get into fights with them (at least when the coaches or supervisors weren't around), but it was never to the point she had to punch someone because either 1) someone would pull her off 2) someone would warn that one of the adults were coming 3) she wasn't trying to risk getting dropped from SM. as the years grew by, everyone finally saw how jae joon's personality was and many of the times it ws her not being scared of consequences and would start crap with anyone who had beed with her. trainees would be scared of her or like her because she was as well as protective of those friends she made around her.
when SM began the whole SM Rookies concept, jae joon was in the "line-up" for it, if you will. she was always stuck and around the seulgi whose speciality was as well dancing. rather than being around other trainees and arguing with them, she found herself arguing with seulgi plenty more and even occasianally joy. everyone knew that seulgi and jae joon had tension with each other especially how seulgi would always make comments like, "who does she think she is? she can't take my spot that easily." or like when she first started training seulgi would comment, "wow, look how stiff she is. who knew SM started accept deadbeats now." the boys of SM rookies would have to break the two up bc they'd have occasionally yells in each others faces. throughout her eight years of training, she never had much problems with anyone as much as she did with seulgi. getting yelled once by jae joon already scared you and you'd keep quiet forever but seulgi was stubborn and loved to provoke her.
when the final line-up for RV was listed, hoping that jae joon would have made it for the position of a lead or main dancer, the list replaced her with seulgi. that upset her even more. causing one night, instead of going back to the dorm - she stayed after hours at the company to train, in which she twisted her ankle. putting her on a cast for several months before getting back on her feet again. in 2015, when sm was going to release one more girl into the group, she was in the line-up for that again and her foot began to heal up, until later was replaced by Yeri. which she had no problem with bc she liked yeri more than joy.

WHO ARE YOU CLOSE WITH IN THE COMPANY AND RED VELVET? — ok so, when a few years back, I was nicknamed the second krystal jung, right? krystal was still a trainee at the time because the final line-up for f(x) wasn't finished. and what happened was, she found out about that so she came and talked to me. which was odd because when I watched around the company I could see why I was nicknamed that. but because of that krystal and i have gotten very much close throughout the years and she supports me a lot and i love her. im also very close to TVXQ's Changmin sunbae and SNSD's Sunny sunbae. it was more like, when I hurt my ankle, Changmin sunbae was there because he was the one who found me with a bad ankle, and I remembered being like an older brother, at the hospital he listened to my problems like the first person I ever told my problems and concerns too. from there he's been taking care of me like his sister. LOVE STORY —
• when jae joon injured her ankle and sat in the hospital alone for a few days, she often got bored. she the tv to watch some shows, after getting bored of being in bed all day, she got out of the hospital and plopped herself on to the wheel chair and decided to get out of her room. since the wheel chair was by the door, she hobbled over there and finally sat down. it was a huge struggle for her to even get out the door because she didn't feel know how to use a wheel chair yet. struggling to move point A to point B down the dumb hallway, she suddenly felt a sudden push, "here i got you buddy." the voice said. confused, she thought it was one of the male nurses so she just shrugged and didn't even turn around to check who was pushing her. she then continued to ask him about her leg and when she'd be able to heal, when they reached the hospital garden. confused, he sat down on the pavement next to her and looked at her, "i'm sorry - i'm not a doctor or nurse." he rubbed the back of his neck. "oh? i'm sorry, because like i didn't think a stranger would want to push some random girl down the hallway," she apologized. "ah, it's nothing!" he grinned. "i'm lay - or zhang yixing by the way." he introduced himself. he had been at the hospital visiting a friend and after she introduced herself back, he proceeded to talk to her, "I saw the famous singer tvxq's max talking to you earlier when I was just walking around." he shrugged.

"none." she simply replied. "i'm a trainee under sm and sunbae happened to be taking care of me, but I know you're under exo. funny - I've never seen you before during your trainee years."
"a trainee, huh. you must be a special one to know Max Hyung personally," his eyes sparkled. "not really," she laughed. "just like every other trainee around here," she stated. "well, not every trainee has a broken ankle at the moment." he joked, leaning back. "dancer, you?" he said, seeing that jae joon was looking off into the distance. "yep. distraught about my injury though." she pouted. "hey, i had a back injury but that didn't stop me from dancing - you'll be back on your feet soon." he chuckled as he stood up. "let's get you back to your room, i gotta leave soon anyways so no ones gonna be able to help you use this thing." he teased. "jokes, jokes - i just, wheel chairs are weird." she rolled her eyes.
jae joon had stayed in the hospital for a few more days before discharging, on the day she discharged a knock was on the door. "come in." she said as she packed her clothes into her back. "wow, upgrade - wheelchair to crutches. i don't see why they didn't give you that in the first place." she looked up, hearing the familiar voice. "oh - you're here? is your friend still in the hospital?" she questioned. "nah." he chuckled. "i just wanted to actually catch your contact info." she laughed, "you could have asked me or tried to find me at the company." she stated. "it doesn't look like exo's schedule currently won't allow me enough time at the company to stroll and look for youbut i know we met like three days ago - but hey, you're a really sweet person to talk too."
"we talked for like twenty minutes."
"enough time for me to consider you a friend already - first humble trainee i've ever met - might i add." she chuckled as she wrote down her information for him. "lets meet up one day." he smiled. she nodded as she watched him leave the room with a giddy smile.
a few weeks later, she had received a text message from yixing, asking if she was free any day soon. realizing that SM was giving the trainees an off day coming up soon, she told him her free day. and on that day was the first time they met up for some coffee. "still on crutches on i see." he joked again. "well - it'd be a miracle if i could instantly walk again after a week." she rolled her eyes. after that meeting - the two would occasionally meet up again whenever they had off days or free time after practice. their relationship / friendship with each other became filled with jokes and dumb insults towards each other. spring 2015 came around, as the final line-up was once again announced for RV, seeing that she didn't make it again - she practically cried her heart out to him. blaming it was probably her injury that set her back and etc, he only comforted her and would tell her that it wasn't her fault, etc. whenever he had a comeback or whatever, she'd surprise him a box of cake or she'd take him out to dinner. whenever the two are together, sometimes the members of exo or other trainees see with each other, they argue like a couple, nag like a couple, care for each other like one and they know the two have deep feelings for each other. but the two would always deny by saying, "friends act like this with each other too." when they're together they're always dysfunctional and not the cute mushy type at all. "yah, yixing-sshi, stop walking so slow."
"-sshi?? what do you mean, oh my god - we've known each other for more than a year and you're still gonna - oh mY, this girl is gonna get it."
"oh my gosh, loOk ice cream!!!" she shouted, dragging him by the arm to the vendor. "two pistachio ice cream cones, two scoops please!" she told the ice cream man as she dug through her bag for her wallet. "what are you doing? why are you getting pistachio? you hate it."
"i know! but first, you just had your comeback so i got your favorite flavor because i love you oppa ~" she acted cute while paying the man. it was the first time that jae joon ever told yixing 'i love you' even if they were only friends or 'oppa', she hated calling him oppa. he stiffened, she looked adorable trying to always act tough towards him but she genuinely looked like an angel and sounded like one when she acted cute and called him oppa. she then held thanked the man and looked at wonho, holding both cones in her hand. "pick one, hurry it's gonna melt!" she frowned.
then he flicked her forehead before grabbing the ice cream cone in her left hand. "yah! zhang yixing, what the was that for!" she shouted rubbing her forehead.
"don't ever act cute and mushy with me again," he said casually walking ahead and eating his ice cream. she scoffed, ". i wasn't acting cute for you." she rolled her eyes - catching up to him then stabbing her ice cream into his cheek. "you're such a ." his eyes widened, seeing her run, he caught up and held onto her hoody and smooshed the ice cream all over her forehead. "that's right, porcupine - feel my pain." as mentioned before, it's obvious the both like each other but won't admit it. they always get jealous of each other talking to the opposite , but since yixing never made it clear to her that he liked her, she would sometimes flirt with the exo members. but inside, her liking yixing a lot sometimes made her feel guilty about flirting.
RELATIONSHIP — they're the bestest of friends ; they're very insulting towards each other, rather than saying hi how are you type thing, they say, "oh looks like you inherited the ugly genes in your family. weird bc everyones attractive but you." yixing chuckled. "you're just another piece of meat for the dogs." she frowned. however, they're very skinshippy with each other. naturally they'll hugs each other, put their legs on each other or sit and have their arms wrapped each other bc they're cold or some bs excuse they made up.
STATUS — currently crushing - but both don't know they like each other so then they're flirting with others
