Roman Numerals

Since my brother has been sick for a while he had to go and ask his teacher for stuff. While I am tutoring at home.

We have a little discussion about roman numerals. Anyone good with them?

His teacher said : 48 = IIL

I say it's wrong and it is XLVIII. I've run it through generators and it all says my answer. I double checked with typing in the teachers answer too.

Now my brother says 99= IC

I say it is wrong and it has to be XCIX.

Someone who can end our discussion and help us with this, who's right who's wrong?

So I don't remember Roman Numerals anymore. I used to know them really really well. But since I don't have to use them anymore past 12 I don't remember them at all. But I do remember that Roman Numerals are long and complicated. Past 20 it all becomes very complex. So I'm pretty sure you're right.
