♔ make way for the ice princess — if first impressions are to be counted, soomin can be described as the type of person that intimidates, if not outly scares, a lot of people due to her tendency of not smiling, and her taciturn tendencies which makes her quite unapproachable to most. she gives off unconscious insults and exudes an "i-own-these-halls-move-out-of-my-path" vibe that she really couldn't help. in fact, it's easy to think of her as someone who thinks like she owns the world and when she volunteers herself, she immediately seems "arrogant". and she isn't even speaking at that point. in fact, if sm had its way, they would immediately market her as someone extremely fierce and full of "fighting!" ( like tao tbh ).

 

♔ underneath the glare lies a simple heart and a pure smile — those close to her (and believe me, she has quite a few poeple she considers 'close' friends) would tell you a different story: despite her outward appearance and first impression, Soomin is suprisingly gentle and friendly, and would never turn down an offer or an inquiry for help. She is quite filial, and her motherly insitincts are quite strong. Soomin is also quite shy around new people and tends to keep quiet after some polite conversation, which, when coupled with her image, makes her seem like she's immediately ignoring people, but really, she's just worrying in her head that she's not speaking. She's the type of person that sits there, listening attentively and giving her comments only when needed. Her friends value her wisdom and her unbiased reception, and she knows better than to unfairly take the side of one person without hearing the side of another. In fact, she rarely takes sides (unless necessary) - she likes acting as the mediator instead and her pacifist mindset makes her resort to talks first before trying anything rash. Something that is admirable about her as well is that she knows what she wants to do or what she has to do, and people can rely on her doing her darnest to carry out what she needs to do. There is a sense of passion and determination within her that she wholeheartedly offers to things that she loves doing, which, in this case, is dancing and martial arts. As well, Soomin knows how to stand on her own two feet, and rest assured, she finds a way to settle her own problems before she asks for help, which is not very usual as she likes solving her own troubles.

 

♔ but don't be fooled because a sleeping kitty can become a ferocious tiger — For all her good points, though, Soomin can be quite a that she appears to be. There is a streak of stubborness in her that makes her quite bullheaded when it comes to doing things that she obviously doesn't want to do. She can even resort to ignoring people in all aspects when pushed to the point of doing so. Soomin's independence can also make her quite proud on doing her own work: she doesn't want anyone's help, and if she does, she'd rather not ask for it. If she doesn't care about what you make her do as well, she would turn her back and walk away without so much as a single glance in your direction ("No s given, sorry."), complete with a hair flip. Soomin also doesn't take care of herself when she is engrossed in her activities, so expect her to skip meals or sleep for less than eight hours when she's trying to practice on a new routine or doing her work or something. She is also quite lazy on some aspects, particularly her studies. Soomin also does what she wants to do, and nobody can tell her otherwise, because it's her decision to do or not do something and whatever the repercussions is something that she'll handle on her own, thank you very much.

 

♔ a wounded tiger could only walk so far until it can no longer do so — Soomin gets playfully teased a lot because she rarely gets angry at being teased, but even if she is angry, no one takes her seriously anyway and she hates it so much. She is also quite insecure of herself particularly with her appearance, and sometimes even her talent, which makes her quite self-destructive by practicing to the point of death (figuratively speaking) and avoiding all comments about her appearance (except for the "You look like Kai" ones). Soomin's patience is probably as tall as *insert really really tall skyscraper here* as well, and there's no telling what will happen once it becomes depleted because no one has seen her angry enough for her to lash out. Some say that she could bring about (figurative) destruction, others say that she would turn into a cold, calculating psycho. In actuality, though, she would cry uncontrollably and use every single curse she knows (in English, Korean and even Japanese if she remembers it) while throwing everything she can get her hands on and may even beat up people. It has happened only once, and she's not proud of it.

 

♔ i'm scared but i'll keep believing — Because of her parents' separation, Soomin is hesitant about the prospect of love. Well, not like the life on an idol is open for the possibility of dating and romance, but even if you take that away, she's hesitant about loving someone unless they have proven that she can trust them not to leave her when the time comes. In fact, if she can, she'll do the leaving instead. But on the subject of romance, Soomin is quite the old-fashioned girl. Maybe it's the influence of Romeo & Juliet, or those rare romance books that she has, but she likes the idea of a fluffy, deep-rooted romance that transcends all obstacles.

 

♔ a little more before we move on — Books, anime, food, Kim Woobin, Kim Soohyun are some of her other interests, and when she isn't moving to the beat of a song, she's probably eating, reading a book, or watching anime or K-Dramas of Kim Soohyun or Kim Woobin on her laptop. Actually, add sports (and martial arts) to that because Soomin can be quite the adrenaline junkie when she wants to. She likes moving and getting her limbs to work, and sports gives her a rush that makes her quite happy. Her childlike streak can be seen through her interests, which makes for a rather different image than her first impression. ♔ and then there's the wild tiger named dei — but soomin is different from dei. oh yes, they're not the same. the moment dei arrives and soomin takes her temporary leave, the person you would see is the confident, unhibited, y leader who walks and moves with a certain finesse that fits her "wild tiger" nickname. dei is what others expect soomin to be: charismatic, strong and mysterious, but charming and adaptable, like a real tiger.

- There’s quite a connection between her and her two best friends in more ways than one. First off, the three of them look like each other, proven by the fact that Kai gets a lot of comments saying that he looks like Taemin, while Soomin gets a lot of comments that she looks like Kai. Second, their names rhyme ( “Taemin, Jongin and Soomin”, anyone? ). Third, they’re all affiliated with dancing. Fourth, they’ll all too shy for their own good. Fifth, they’re all in the “youngest” category ( Taemin is the maknae of SHINee, while Jongin and Soomin are in the ’94 line, which kinda means that they’re more or less one of the younger batches in the Entertainment ). For these reasons, they’re usually called the “Triplets” by their hyungs, noonas and other sunbaes.

- Soomin doesn’t have a sense of personal space when she is with people she’s super-duper close to. It’s relatively easy to expect her to be clingy with Taemin and Jongin, or even her older half-brother Joonhyun. In fact, it’s because of this lack of personal bubble that she gets called a “Skinship Monster” and that it’s relatively easy to mistake her as either Taemin’s or Jongin’s girlfriend ( *gags* “Ew, I’m not gonna date my two oppas. That’s like dating Joonhyunnie-oppa. Gross.” )

- Knows the choreography of EXO’s History, some parts of MAMA ( “Jonginnie still hasn’t taught me the steps that go in the sitner gaps!” ), Wolf, Growl and Overdose, as well as SHINee’s Hello, Ring Ding Dong, Everybody, Replay, Dream Girl and Lucifer. She loves doing Jongin’s and Taemin’s parts best. As for VIXX... well she knows all except for Only U.

- She has the ability to adapt to several dance styles. The reason for this is because she is always eager to learn new dance forms, that is why she pursues the learning despite its difficulties.

- Weirdly enough, Soomin can’t remember stage names, that’s why she has the tendency to call idols by their real names. Examples are Yifan-senpainim, Yixing-senpainim, Joonmyun-senpainim, Kibum-senpainim, etc.

- On that note, Soomin can’t match names with faces for a few tries. That’s one of the reasons why she doesn’t talk to people much; she’s still trying to decipher the name that matches the face. Unless, of course, it’s the likes of EXO’s Kris ( she vividly remembers him by the height and the cold stare) and Tao (the scary looks help ), who she can distinguish after one meeting.

- It’s hard to grasp Soomin’s attention, because her mind’s always flying somewhere. She bores easily, and her sudden quietness as she drifts off to another thing in her mind gives people another reason to mistake her as a snobbish girl.

- Has "concerts" in the bathroom; that is, she sings and dances while taking a bath.

- Is currently studying Broadcasting in SNU

- Has a fourth-degree black belt in Taekwondo.

- She is largely interested in astronomy and astrology and thinks that fireworks are awesome because they look like stars. Jongin teases her that she likes stars because "Kris-hyung" likes galaxies, which she denies and claims that she's loved astronomy ever since primary school.

- Fangirls Kim Soohyun so much that she watched Dream High and My Love From Another Star over and over again just because of him. ( "Soohyuuuuuuun-oppa!!" ). On that note, she also fangirls Kim Woobin way too much. ( "WOOBIN-OPPA! UGH!! MY KOKORO!!" )

- If she isn't watching Kim Soohyun and Kim Woobin, she's most likely watching anime and laughing over "Tamaki-senpai" of Ouran High School Host Club, going "Omo! Omo! Omo!" over Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge or going "SAKDJFHAKJSDFHADFSOMOOOO!!!" over Shingeki no Kyojin.

- Please don't ask her to do any physical activity or do sports because she's crazy-enthusiastic about them.

- Almost always hungry and loves to eat potatoes the most. Her fast metabolism ("The only thing increasing about me is my height, not my weight. It's crazy - I've been trying to gain a few pounds but I can't!") and her calorie-burning activities (AKA dancing and Taekwondo) makes her thin anyway.

- Is compared to former EXO-M's Tao because they're both martial artists who are marketed as (or can be marketed as) "badass" but are actually cute and emotional.

- Is a firm believer that Kai looks best during the Growl era ( "Actually, they all look good during that era." ) and that Taemin can't pull off the bowlcut and his long hair ( "Ohmygod Taeminnie-oppa, please don't attempt that hair ever again." )

- Her SNS accounts are "@iAMparkdongsoo" ( Twitter ) and "@sooooooomin" ( Instagram ). Both are personal and private. She'll think about getting a public one sometime after debut, and will be under "@tiger_dei" - Her hair is infinitely stubborn. It won't curl or go in waves unless you spent hours trying to do so. It's crazy.

- When she isn't dancing, clinging onto her two best friends, or watching anime or Woobin and Soohyun, she's usually in her own world, with either a book or a pair of earphones stuck to her ears. Her favorite books include the Harry Potter series, the Mortal Instruments and books by Dan Brown, while she tends to listen to Mayday Parade, Linkin Park, Boys Like Girls, EXO and SHINee.

- Has the tendency to mix Korean words with Japanese words or English words. Notable examples are "Omogosh!" ( Omo + Oh my gosh ), "Naniwae!" ( Nani? + Wae! ), and even "senpainim" ( senpai + nim ).

- Talents aside from dancing include drawing in anime style (she can copy Masashi Kishimoto's style, Tite Kubo's style, Hiro Mashima's style, Tadatoshi Fujimaki's style, Bisco Hatori's style and Yana Toboso's style, but her style is more like Tomoko Hayakawa's.), cooking Italian food (her stepmother has a weird preference for Italian food that she picked up) and eating potatoes. What free time due to not studying does to you, eh?

- DON'T GET HER ANYWHERE NEAR BEETLES AND COCKROACHES. SHE SCREAMS WORSE THAN A GIRL IN A HORROR MOVIE AND CRIES WORSE THAN A MELODRAMATIC DRAMA'S LEAD ACTRESS IN A BREAKUP SCENE.

- She's not usually aware of her surroundings. It's so bad that she won't realize that she's lost until at least an hour later.

- Give her anything that has to do with wrist accessories, galaxy themes or tiger themes and she will love you forever.

- She has a four-year-old pet Pomeranian named Rui. Rui is basically Soomin's son. Or pet. She treats him like a spoiled son, though. Soomin got Rui as a birthday present, and ever since, she's been the one who he recognized as his owner (though he's also fond of Joonhyun). Because of Soomin's training and school, she hasn't been around him for long periods so when she does spend time with him, he's a little extremely hyper.

Almost fifteen years ago, Soomin's parents had a divorce after her mother learned of her father's mistress, who had a child with her father that was actually older than Soomin. While her father explained that it was a drunken one-night stand and that he didn't want to abandon his responsibilities to his son as much as he didn't want to abandon his wife and daughter, their divorce still pushed through. Soomin was left with her mother at the request of her father, who knew that her mother would need someone to be with through her depressive periods following the discovery. However, she and her father still kept in touch. Three years after the divorce, Soomin's mother died of a car accident, and Soomin's custody went to her father. Despite what telenovelas would tell you, her new mother was actually very nice and welcoming to her, and she also quickly became friends with her half-brother, Park Joonhyun. Elementary days were also a breeze for her, as she found herself two best friends — namely Lee Taemin (during her second year of elementary) and Kim Jongin (during her last) — and displayed a natural knack for being a class leader and role model.

 

That exact behavior was what made her a target for bullies during junior high. Branded as the "no-good tattletale", she would constantly be pushed around and her bike would always be messed with, to the point that she never took it to school again and that she was always paranoid of people around her, not knowing when the bullies would strike. As she tried to take some measure of control, joining the Taekwondo club as the movements enamored her (as they resembled a dance), and also in order to learn how to protect herself (but never saying the reason why), the bullying increased, the "no-good tattletale" later evolving to "coward" (for her decision to learn how to protect herself), "failure" (after she accidentally made her class lose a school festival contest), and a whole lot of other derogatory names. She became reclusive and unwilling to make friends, later evolving into shyness and social impairment. While her brother was aware of what was happening to her, she decided to keep it a secret from her parents and her two best friends, as she did not want them to worry and that she wished to handle her problems on her own. Despite her miserable junior high school life, however, she did find solace in Taekwondo, and it would always be her grip on her confidence, especially when she saw the look on her coach's face — one of pride and respect for his prized student and protegee.

 

Things changed for the better when she entered high school. Unknowingly, she had became famous with her high school's Taekwondo team for being a promising talent during her middle school days. The martial arts that was once just a way for her to deal with her problems became something that is very precious to her and what made her mature. She joined the club, sometimes tagging along with her teammates who were dancers as well and had connections with some dancers from different schools and years.

 

Sometime during her second year of high school, she got to reestablish contact with Taemin and Jongin, and the two encouraged her to try out for SM Entertainment. Despite her initial worry over the whole institution of being a trainee, she fulfilled their wishes and passed the tryouts. What caught up her schedule the most was Taekwondo practice and trainee practices, not academics, as she rarely spent time with her academics anyway. Luckily for her (I'm telling you that this girl has been showered by luck since she was born), she could still pass classes... but not because of listening in class or anything. More like, she learned from all the extra-curricular reading she did.

FATHER — Park Dongmin // 45 // entrepreneur // Sentimental, humorous, responsible, level-headed Before her parents' divorce, Soomin was also quite fond of her father, but not as much as she was with her mother. After her mother died, Soomin initially had a grudge against her father for destroying their family but had grown out of it — so to say, she had learned that her father was only doing his duty to her half-brother as well and that she could not blame her father for the things that he was unable to change. They have the usual father-daughter relationship, especially since her father's sentimental ways can really make one's heart soft.

 

MOTHER — Park Jikyung // 44 - deceased // housewife // Decisive, honest, proud, damaged When her mother was alive, she and Soomin got along perfectly, as she was very attached to her. After her parents' divorce, she had to cope up with an emotionally-wrecked mother. Jikyung's death had a great impact on Soomin and initially, she blamed her father for what happened to her mother but has since learned to cope up with her loss.

 

STEPMOTHER — Park Ilyeon // 42 // housewife // Gentle, filial, wise, fussy Soomin is guilty of expecting that her stepmother would be a cruel woman but Ilyeon is the exact opposite. She treated Soomin as if she was her own daughter and readily accepted Soomin even though she had some trouble with accepting her mother's death and living with her father's new family. Though they probably won't be as close as Soomin was to her biological mother, Ilyeon and her step-daughter do get along well.

 

HALF-BROTHER — Park Joonhyun // 21 // College Student majoring in Business Management in Seoul National University // Stubborn, humorous, overprotective, strong-willed Joonhyun is Soomin's built-in best friend, and despite her initial tension with his/their parents, she and Joonhyun clicked rather well at first sight. They have a LOT of common interests (it was he that influenced her interest in anime) and as the older brother, Joonhyun is somewhat overprotective of Soomin, to the extent that he scrutinizes every single guy that shows any slight interest in his sister.

Taemin is like a breath of fresh air from Soomin's overprotective half-brother and the crazy Jongin, but the two does have a fair share of secret mischief that others won't expect of them.

 

TAEKWONDO TEAMMATE, SISTER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER — Jung Seoyeon // 20 // College Student majoring in Computer Science in Pohang University of Science and Technology // Friendly, socially-awkward, filial, independent, crybaby Seoyeon and Soomin are basically tied at the hip. Seoyeon was the one who introduced Soomin to Taekwondo, and her ability to manipulate Soomin into a lot of things was the gateway that led the girl to the sport. The two are almost like twins, save for being born to different mothers, and sometimes they get mistaken for actual sisters as well. Seoyeon is the only one who is aware of Soomin's... problems.

 

TAEKWONDO TEAMMATE, SUNBAE, "BROTHER" — Oh Daewoon // 19 // College Student majoring in Fine Arts in Yonsei University, ulzzang // Flirty, blunt, naughty, energetic, humorous Daewoon was a part of the team before Soomin, and when the girl was finally with them, he spent a year teasing Soomin in every single thing that she does and even shamelessly flirted with her even though he has a girlfriend (all for the purpose of teasing her, of course). Though he's grown out of that behavior, he continues to troll Soomin and convince "Seoyeon-noona" that it's a wonderful idea to do so. Though Soomin is older than him, he barely treats her like a noona and sometimes even treats her like a slave / little sister.

 

TAEKWONDO TEAMMATE, SUNBAE, "BROTHER" — Song Insuk // 19 // College Student majoring in FIne Arts in Yonsei University, ulzzang // Charismatic, friendly, leader-like, sweet, humorous, polite Insuk is probably the sweetest guy you've ever met in your life (save for Joonmyun-senpainim, according to Soomin). Polite, charismatic, and possessing a smart sense of humor, Insuk is beloved by so many noonas and girls alike that he's turned into some sort of celebrity despite being an athlete. He even has is own fanbase! Out of Soomin's three Taekwondo friends, he is the least likely to troll the girl, though he does have his moments. And like Daewoon, he rarely treats Soomin by her real age.

A jokester and full of "swag", Kim Wonshik, or Ravi to most people, is the first rapper and the main (and sometimes only) rapper of Jellyfish Entertainment, home to the concept-dols VIXX. He is quite energetic and easygoing, but has the tendency to fall asleep andywhere and everywhere. He believes in himself and his abilities, but underneath that, he still has the underlying insecurity since he's been called a "nugu" in his three-year career. He is also one of the most perceptive in the group, as he was able to deduce that their maknae Hyuk was scared of their main vocalist Leo. In terms of love he doesn't believe in playing the "push and pull" games (like a tsundere /coughs-) but if he likes someone, he will pursue them to the ends of the Earth and beyond.

The instance behind their first meeting is quite simple: mutual friends. In an amazing coincidence, Taemin, Ravi and Soomin were all free one evening, so Taemin had the bright idea of introducing his "baby triplet" to his friend Ravi. So they all met at Han River, and the only oblivious person here was Ravi since he wasn't informed that Taemin would be bringing someone. Honestly he even thought that it was Kai that Taemin brought, but thankfully he didn't speak up about (1) thinking that the girl with Taemin is Kai, and (2) assuming that the girl, if she wasn't Kai, was Taemin's girlfriend. Taemin introduced Soomin to Ravi, and the apper was finally in the know — this is the precious Soomin that his two friends love to tell him about! They spent the late evening eating street food, having a little bit of fun, and talking while at a cafe. Soomin and Wonshik exchanged Line accounts and promised that they would talk more, particularly about their mutual friends.

Right now, they're quite casual with each other, like friends, and like to keep each other updated with their own activities. They really don't meet out unlike him/her with Taemin and/or Jongin, since fans might see them and think that he's her girlfriend (that's still awkward...), but they spend a lot of time talking on the phone anyway. Outside of SM or her circle of friends in Taekwondo, he's the only friend she has. Oddly enough, both of them hasn't even realized how sweet they are towards each other, as they both assume that they're merely friends... but Taemin and Kai are having none of that. Not when Taemin prides himself on being the Cupid to the almighty RaDei ship and Kai is determined to get rid of the "only one with a relationship" status in their small circle of friendship.
