My Personal Opinon

*There is a great amount of criticism on my part that can be cruel and will come off as mean. Read and understand that this is my personal opinion. MINE.*

In every group, there is always a member that cannot sing, that cannot dance and that is overated.

Personally for singing, as long as they can hold up a tune and with great background music, I have no issues with them. Heck your biases can sound even better all because they are you bias. I enjoy EXO's Sehun one-liners, but only because he is one of my bias. But really as long as the beat and music are awesome, the what would be called terrible singing can actually become a great tune. The many groups in K-Pop always seems to have the members mesh together really well in a song regardless of their lack in talent in singing. Twice is often called a group that doesn't have the best singing talent out there, but does that stop them from producing decent songs that are quite popular. Hell no! They have great music that somehows manages to compliment their average voices. That's why I don't like those videos where they have music removed. The song is a song because of the voices AND the background music. Not one or the other. I like to think that even the most average voices when placed together can create a nice overall sound all together. I am a pathetic singer, but did that affect the performance of a school choir with other average singers? No. In fact, we actually sounded alright. Great even because we won many awards (locally of course). However, for solos, definitely there should a large amount of vocal talent because it's one voice. One voice that we will listen only to throughout the whole song and I am not complaining. Girl's Generation, Taeyeon; Super Junior's Kyhyun, Yesung; SHINee's Jonghyun; IU; Ailee and many others. There are also subpar talents to those I've just mentioned like SHINee's Taemin; Super Junior M's Henry and Zhoumi. THese people are not really known for their vocal talents, but through their vocal experiances, they have improved to a decent calibre and along with decent music, BOOM, they have a great song. Music is partial to one's own preference, so I'm not judging anyone's taste in music or perhaps witih the topic, who's voice is better. I can melt like goo to Taeyeon's and Park Bom's voice despite the differences in style. I can listen all day to Sehun's one-liners and cry over D.O's honey-like voice or Chen's perfect voice.

Most important issue I want to address is the dancing and the overatedness of a member.

Firstly for dancing, as someone who loves dancing, I can't help but notice the lack of dancing talent in some K-Pop groups or perhaps terrible choreography (though this is more of a rare case). Putting it simply, some people just can't dance. Their moves are disjointed and awkward, horribly rigid or exaggerative. Members I will not heisitate to throw under the bus are Oh My Girl's Yooah, Twice's Tzuyu and Nayeon and on some occasions, EXO's Sehun. There are plenty of terrible dancers in every group, no doubt about that. But reason being about the above members that I specifically pointed out are because despite being terrible dancers, they are generally the centre of the choreography, mainly because they are the face of the group or as I would bitterly call them, the overated members in the group which I would discuss later. Terrible dancers in each group are generally of decent vocal and/ or rapping talent, so I would tend to look at them for these exact talents, vocal or rapping rather than dancing. They are well covered by members who can dance and are placed in a way where we can see them, but not see them full frontal where their terrible dancing skills are on show. Great examples are Got7, T-ARA, Seventeen, Infinite and on some occasions EXO (sometimes Kai is well...too much, I suppose). On a side note, I would like to mention that EXO is a special case in a way that they have managed all, but I think are still lacking in small aspects.

Got7 to me is the epitome of a great dancing group. Their choreography is absolutely amazing and with great complexity. Everyone of them is an excellant dancer and then there is Junior and Yugyeon who are even more amazing. One member that I would like to point out is Youngjae. Youngjae is not the best dancer out there, but is he flaunting his dancing skills? No, he leaves it to Junior or Yugyeom and makes sure he focuses on his vocal which he is in charge of. When he is doing his part, he does it with the level of his talent and when his part is over, he moves to the sidelines like a champ and Yugyeom takes the centre. Perfect cover and sychronisation for the lesser talented dancers. Other groups show this well as I have mentioned before, T-ARA has practically honed in on simple yet complex dance moves that seem to do well for non-talented dancers and with actual dancers, it is evne more emphasised. So thumbs up to them. Seventeen has lots of people, 13 and they make up with it with a storytelling type of dance that each members can bring their own charm to it. Absoutely a great performance. Infinite is similar to Got7, so nothing new to add here, but the fact that dancers are very talented. Dongwoo and Hoya can sing, rap and dance.

So that's good examples, terrible examples are those that I have thrown under the bus which I shall drag them up and prepare myself for an onslaught of abuse from their fans. Disclaimer I would like put out is that, these groups are on my favourite K-Pop group list, so I'm not just a baseless basher.

Let's start with Oh My Girl's Yooa. Yooa is considered to be beautful with doll-like features that never appealed to me. Because of that, she is the 'face' of the group. Being a recently debuted band, 'faces' are placed in the centre if not near the centre. However, her overly exaggerated moves that try to be y and appealing seems to have worked against her, making her look even more rigid. Her recent performances in Liar Liar have solidified my reasoning, especially during her parts in the song where her body moves in ways that tries to be y. (Highlight the next part because this part is cruel and of my personal heartless opinon, skip if you don't want to read it) On this point, I like to think that she has a degree of superficiality that tries to showcase as much of herself in front of camera and if that doesn't happen, she will try her best to grab the camera's attention back to her. I've noticed in their other videos that she, along with other members tries to act as sickenly appealing as they can for the camera. But that's the reason why they are in this entertainment business, but they just seem to push it to the point it's very annoying. I don't see other groups be this camera hungry.

On the next group, Twice. Tzuyu and Nayeon are the 'faces' of the group and like the above reasoning they are placed in the centre. Added to that Nayeon is one fo the main vocals so it is natural that she has to be in the centre. While these two do not incite my cruel words to them, again they are uneccesarily undeserving to be in the centre just because they are pretty. Tzuyu dance like Yooa, but a lot less extreme. She tries to dance, but no. Nayeon claims to copy choreography fast and that implies that she dances well? So if she were to never claim that, I would have never dragged her down like this. But she cannot copy a dance will, she is awfully rigid as with other terrible dancers. But Tzuyu and Nayeon is whom I would like to elaborate more as overated members.

Sehun, my dear Sehun. Absolutely gorgeous. 5 time winner of the ultimate bias of my heart. As you can see, I saw Sehun with rose-coloured glasses although there is nothing to dispute about him apart from a less then average voice that can get y when he speaks and his one-liners can be awesome. E-X-O. Okay, let's remove my heart from this, I'm getting off track. Sehun is a pretty good dancer, because have you seen Baby Don't Cry? Great precision. The most disappointing performance would be Love Me Right. I feel like he couldn't keep up with the dance at all. He would be a tad slower than everyone else.  Maybe it's because every performance, he would always be wearing the heaviest clothes? But the choreography style for Love Me Right is just not his style. His style of dancing is lazy, but with the right music style and beat, he looks absolutely amazing. There is so many that I recommend, but a popular one would be his solo stages and as mentioned before, Baby Don't Cry.

The next part I would like to elaborate is overated members. The most obvious is Tzuyu and Nayeon. They are mostly exaggerated because they are considered absolutely, undisputably beautiful which not true at all. I like to highlight that they are beautiful, but NOT undeniably the MOST beautiful. In fact if they were undeniably beautiful, why would I have these thoughts that they are not the most beautiful. There faces never appealed to me. One Tzuyu is a typical Chinese/Taiwanese face that I see all the time and needlessly hyped up over a face that I see a commonplace among the prettier Chinese/ Taiwanese population. So no appeal to me there. Nayeon, in the most blunt terms, reminds me of a chipmunk with her high cheeks and large front teeth. I don't understand why she's considerd the prettiest when really all of Twice are considered pretty enough to not even have a 'face' of the group. My personal favourite is Chaeyeon and Jungyeon and I am honestly disappointed at their lack of attention that's why I am disgruntled with the attention that Tzuyu and Nayeon have. Hell, everytime Jungyeon sings one of the important parts of a song, Jihyo has to come through and belt out the same words over her and that shifts the camera focus off from Jungyeon. I am one mad Jungyeon fan.

There are plenty of overated members out there like Miss A Suzy, AOA Seolhyun, Nine Muses Kyungri, Secret Hyosung and Girl's Day Hyeri. There are plenty of other members that barely receive any attention and I don't like overated members in general because they are sometimes underserving of the fame. But that's life, life is unfair and some of the lesser deserving people will end up having it all. But my poor bae Xiumin lacks the necessary attention in songs. I know he is the ethereal fairy, but sometimes fairies go unnoticed. I think Xiumin is the ultimate underated member ever. He sings so well, dances so well, looks so well, is so well in everything. There is no single lacking thing about him.

This post is getting all over the place, but I think I have said what I needed to say, so peace out.
