@SUBURBIA -> PRINCESSJOO

CHARACTER NAME : im joohye
Other names :
{ junghee } is the name that the old man who's always in her aunt's shop calls her, since he can never seem to properly remember her name.
{ doll } is a petname from her father that she doesn't really like. ironically, she is quite a bit like a doll: very pretty with lots of clothes that can play whatever role the person playing with her wants her to.

APPEARANCE : joohye is of average height with a thin face and frame. her eyes are warm, sparkly, and all-around pleasant to look at, since it seems like she's always smiling from them. her nose is thin, but so har her lips -- which frustrates her to no end. her smile is quite small, dainty, even, and her face is one of those faces that makes her look like a young teenager despite the fact that she's pushing adulthood. her hair is long and sleek, and it's so obvious how much time she spends on making sure that not a strand is out of place. her skin, too, is pale and flawless, if only because of her religious skincare routine. and, if you must ask how long it takes her to do her makeup in the morning: too long.

style : it's a damn sin how extensive this girl's wardrobe is. from frilly skirts to lacy dresses with peter pan or heart shaped collars, high waisted shorts to crop tops with cute ruffles and bows -- summer is oviously joohye's favorite season for fashion. her color palette is always bright and fun, usually featuring pink or purple and something sparkly, like that opal heart shaped necklace her parents got her for her 18th birthday. she has quite a large collection of sunglasses, and she's always losing a pair here or there, but her obsession is clearly with the mirrored avaitor style, like, god, who even cares about what kind of sunglasses you wear? joohye does, of course, and don't get started on her shoes: she could have a rack all for herself.

Personality :

esfp: the performer
        social, ambitious, intuitive
           untrusting, emotional, skeptic

Joohye not only lives to be around people, but also to be the center of attention. She won a solid three superlatives in high school: most likely to be an actress, most outgoing, and never shuts up. Literally everyone around her knows of her hopes and dreams to see her own face on a ten-foot movie screen, if only because that’s almost all she talks about -- since all of her life experiences are gained vicariously through the characters she’s played in the school plays. So, she knows the struggle of a Jewish girl in an arranged marriage, of a young woman with a lover at war, and of a young girl pretending to be her twin brother after she thinks he died. But… She doesn’t quite know much about her own life.

And that’s because she’s grown up with doctors for parents. A very wealthy couple who had a daughter without realizing that they would actually have to put time into raising her, she was placed in a pre-pre-school, then shoved into hagwons until it was late enough for her to walk home and find a box of take-out on the table and her parents in their respective offices. What’s a young girl to do? Create imaginary friends, of course! Since her childhood years, those imaginary friends have “died”, so to speak, but her creativity and ability to pretend to be multiple people at once has never faded. It’s much easier than actually trying to figure herself out, isn’t it?

Long story short, her life has been lived alone, and her life has been full of made-up characters and scenarios. This is all enough to make everything feel surreal, and her only purpose in life has become to continue with her self-inflicted facade. She really doesn’t need anyone else when she has so many characters to choose from, really, and she trusts her instincts when they tell her, 99% of the time: “Pretend to be whatever they want you to be. That’ll make them happy, and then you’ll be happy, too.” but if she's so good at playing other people, why is she still so lonely?

#factoftheday
{ acting } is joohye's only passion. literally. even she knows that she doesn't have any other hobbies, since she's pretty much watching movies or musicals if she isn't performing. she's starting to get into fashion, though.
{ her parents } aren't close to her, to each other, whatever. relationships aren't a big deal in her family.
{ dancing } is her weakness, which is why she would prefer screen to stage acting. she can sing fairly well, but that tends to hold her back, too.
{ her grades } were never amazing, and she wishes that she tried harder. she also wishes that she had an identity beyong "theater kid". and that she had more freinds than acquaintances. and that she could have a deep conversation with her parents.
{ silence } is something that she really hates. it makes her anxious, so she talks to fill it with something, even if it's useless babbling.

summertime : her parents finally realized that they've been sheltering her, thank god. and they're doing something about it! ...sort of. their daughter is being sent away yet again, and this time it's to live with her father's eccentric little sister, dear aunt soojin, who may or may not have a few screws loose. the lady owns a tiny antique store in the suburbs and has made friends with nearly the entire elderly population. joohye's job is to help out, mainly with the dusting and the cash register, but that may also include some trips to antique shows and auctions. joohye's still 100% sure that she'd rather be in acting classes back in the city, but she's trying her best to keep an open mind to learning something while she's into the foreign situation. if anything, those old trinkets are nice to look at, and sometimes aunt soojin tells her their stories.

relations

im soojin ; the crazy aunt
Soojin owns the antique shop that will graciously employ joohye this summer, and has equally as kindly set aside a nice fouton in her tiny living room for her niece to sleep on. this is the one aunt in the family that no one talks to because she's so weird, but joohye's father thinks they'll be good for each other. soojin has an honest interest in joohye's life, and hugs her way too much.

Han ilsung ; the ahjussi
mr. han, as everyone calls him, tends to hang around the antique shop to look through whatever's new, but never buys anything. he routinely calls joohye junghee, as he can't seem to remember her name, but the stories he rambles are pretty cool if anyone ever pays attention. evidently, he was quite the cassanova in high school. go figure. aunt soojin is a very close friend of his.

Han minjae ; mr. han's grandson
is he hot? yes. is he also that nerd that sits in the back of the library reading about cells or something? yes. but, hey, not everyone can be a pre-medicine major. if only he wasn't so damn socially awkward, joohye would have made a move yesterday. they're not really love interests -- he's just some cute guy that joohye stalks often, and his grandpa so knows about said stalking. he's very close to his grandpa, and comes to the antique shop on occasion.

final comments : i hope this shade of pink isn't too pale but god look at it man i love pastels. anyway i'm not sure what i was doing here since it turned out a lot less angsty than i expected, so please feel free to tell me to change it!
SUGGESTIONS/REq's : if she's chosen -- i feel like joohye could really turn into a history nerd, especially in terms of women's history. she doesn't even have to become any less shallow, as long as she finds some source of love and care in her life. preferably her aunt?
song rec : totally feeling pop etc's "please don't forget me" right now
