face claim + backup Byeon Jeongha + Yoon Sunyoung

appearance + style
Haneul dyes her hair to 'chocolate brown' and keeps them medium length. They are usually straight and loose, as she was said that this hairstyle suits her best. She has brown eyes as well and gets cute wrinkles around them when she smiles - and she smiles a lot. She is not sure about her nose tho, sometimes she feels like it's a bit too wide, but it's not something that she has to change about herself. She is 165 cm and weighs 49 kg. Haneul is confident about herself and you can see it clearly in the ways she walks - always straight and graceful.

She dresses in a quite feminine way. Her wardrobe is full of dresses and skirts. She doesn't like too cute patterns tho, so her clothes are usually rather monochrome. She doesn't like wearing visible jewellery, most of the time her accessories are only different headwears and some earrings. Haneul takes care of her skin a lot, so she doesn't need to put too much make-up, it's usually just eyeliner and pink lipbalm.

A storm is inside
— your past defines you

background
Her parents actually met in New York, they both studied there and fell in love during that time. Then they decided not to go back to Korea after they were done with university and shortly after that they got married. Haneul was born just a year after their wedding.
She was growing up happily for most of them time, but during her middle school years she had to deal with bullies. As an Asian, she was subject to some stupid jokes, especially because of her appearance and name. Kids often requested her to sing songs about sky, saying things like she is destined to do so. Unfortunately, Haneul is not a talented singer and her tries were ridiculed even more. After some time she gave up trying and started learning how to ignore this or stand up to bullies. She also managed to stay open and happy, so she got few close friends who kept her sane and healthy during hard times.
Before she started high school, her father got a job offer from Korea and after long dicussions at home, Song family decided to move out to Seoul. Haneul was really curious, as she's never been in Seoul earlier - those few times when she visited Korea, she was only in Busan where her mother's family lives. She fell in love with the city quickly, exploring it was quite an adventure for those few weeks before she started school. She joined her class in second term, which made her struggle a bit, as a school was definitely tougher than in the States. She was lucky though, this time she didn't have troubles with bullies. School was running rather smoothly, beside few incidents she would rather not remember, as she is quite ashamed of them. Since then, she lives happily.
current lifestyle
Haneul now is a grad student of English literature. She's quite happy with her studies, it gives her satisfaction in life. She spends her days mostly in classes, tutoring younger students or working as interpreter when she gets a job, usually for some tourists or businessmen. She still lives with her parents, so she doesn't need to pay for rent or food, which makes her rather happy. It's nice to spend some money from time to time, isn't it?

traits
+ open-minded, friendly, self-confident
◆ spontaneous, persistent, sassy
- careless, weird, possesive
personality
Because of her place of birth, her attitude is a bit different than typical Korean would have. She is an open-minded person who is not afraid of speaking up. She is quite tolerant and doesn't hold grudges too long. She likes people's company and she likes to meet new people. It's typical for her to introduce herself to someone whom she meets at the cafe or in a train. It causes sometimes awkward situations, but Haneul is lucky to have enough charm to get her out of troubles.
She is self-confident, in her looks as well. She doesn't really care what other think or say behind her back. And people do speak about her, because she gives them reasons - she is quite spontaneous and does weird things without thinking about consequences. Sometimes it's just bravado, very often it's plain carelessness. She behaves like she would if she was still in America and Korean standards didn't matter to her. Her natural self-defence mechanism is sass and sometimes she oversteps the line between teasing and bothering someone, but she apologizes immidately when she sees she did wrong. It's not often that she's mean on purpose.
Haneul is ambitious person. She set up few clear goals for herself long ago and ever since she strives for success. Her persistence is applause- worthy, she is not the one to give up easily. Being patient is okay, it's passiveness that is not, she always says to her friends. Talking about friends - Haneul is quite possesive over them. She is a bit selfish and gets jealous when she knows they are having other friends she doesn't know. She had few arguments about this and now she is working hard on being better person. But she still doesn't like sharing her personal items, they belong to her for a reason.

trivia
Haneul loves rain. And storms. She has this habit of lying on the grass during storms and observing lightnings. People call her totally crazy because of that, but does she care? Not really. Naturally, she likes Bi Rain too.
— Likes: fresh air after the storm, strawberries, frappuccino, caramel sauce, Central Park in New York, bagels, tteobokki.
— Dislikes: prawns (for some reason, when she sees them, she thinks they are looking at her and she can't force herself to eat them), traffic, bananas, people who think that they have good accent in English and they don't, greasy stains at books.
— She is addicted to her phone. It's her pocket library, music player, GPS (she is bad at navigating, she needs it to come home from unknown places). Without it, she feels just not right.
— Haneul really can't sing. Her friends often go to karaoke and she hangs out with them, but after few tries they realised it's better not to let her come close to microphone.
— Since meeting with Howon (or 'hot guy' as she refers to him in her mind), she suddenly got interested in dance. Let's guess why. Surprisingly, she can keep up with the rhythm. She is yet to discover if she has some talent in this area.

relationships

PARENTS Song Jaehyo + Lee Minyoung | 1965 + 1966 | engineer + English teacher
personality:
intelligent, hard-working, patient + caring, affectionate, supporting
interactions:
Haneul always says she wants to be like her parents. They are great example for her and she looks up to them a lot. They asked about her opinion when her father got job offer in Seoul, which made Haneul really touched. It showed her that they consider her an important person too.

BEST FRIEND Lee Soyeon | 1992 | physics grad student
personality:
confident, witty, intelligent
interactions:
Soyeon is Haneul's best friend since high school. As a first place student she was told to take care of new addition to class and they grew fond of each other. Soyeon is one of a few people who can freely insult weird habits that Haneul has and she uses this right with pleasure. She is planning to get PhD in physics when she's done with Masters.

FRIEND Cha Hakyeon | 1990 | architect intern
personality:
silent, patient, perceptive
interactions:
Hakyeon is son of her parents' friend. They have met when they were still children and both living in New York. Hakyeon was her first crush when she was eleven years old and he started to look little more like teenager than child. Luckily, she grew out of that fast. He was there for her when she tried to deal with bullying. Not that he could help her a lot, but at least he gave her support. When she moved out, they kept in touch. Few months ago Hakyeon came to Seoul due to family issues and found a job here, so he decided to stay, at least for now.

STUDENT Kim Taehyung | 1995 | English lit student
personality:
weird, dorky, lazy
interactions:
Taehyungie is the kid Haneul is tutoring. She is almost always refering to him as 'kid', saving other nicknames for special occasions. He is quite similar to her, so she understands him. He's like a little brother to her and she's definitely overprotective when it comes to him. He tries different hobbies every week. He was cooking, singing, painting. Maybe it's time for dancing now?

and then love strikes
— share your umbrella with me

full name Lee Howon
date of birthday 28/03/1991
birthplace + hometown Busan, South Korea
ethnicity + nationality Korean

occupation Dance teacher.

face claim + backup Lee Jonghyun

background + lifestyle
Since he was kid, Howon loved dancing and spent all his time to master choreographies and develop new skills. It took him lots of effort, even to the point of dropping from school. When he was barely 16, he came to Seoul to audition to few agencies. He didn't get in as a trainee, but he got noticed for his dance skills. He became backup dancer and worked with few groups, just to get to his dance school when he was 21. Quickly he became one of the best teachers there. He is acknowledged for his talents and his choreos are widely praised. His schedule for work is rather flexible. He spends mornings on his own development and during afternoons and evenings, he teaches his classes. He lives with his best friend and colleague, Jang Dongwoo, who works at school as well.

personality
Hoya is so passionate about dance and so hard-working. He sacrificed everything for dancing. There were moments when he regretted this decision, but now he's happy with his choice. He may seem too focused on dancing, but it's not true. He is quite a person, to be honest. He has specific sense of humour that may be seen as lame (okay, he is lame quite often, but he genuinely tries!) and his retorts are rather sassy. Howon is really good-natured person, even if at the beginning he is rather grumpy and awkward. He needs time to open up to someone, but when he does, he is really someone you can rely on. He voluntarily spends time to help his students when they struggle with movements and is the last one to postpone anything. He can't stand being a burden to anyone; he is independent and hates asking for help.

trivia
— When he hurt his ankle and couldn't dance for two months, he was unbearable. He hung out at studio everyday, going around on crutches and pissing everyone off with his comments (they were quite helpful tho).
— He can sing, it wasn't just enough for major labels and he didn't want to spend too much time chasing the dream that he could easily put off. His friends always take him to karaoke and force him to sing.
— Don't ask him to cook for you unless you want to get ramen that tastes... Well, weird is the least you can call that.

the meeting
It was thursday and Taehyung just cancelled his tutoring session, so Haneul had some time for herself. She was walking from university to buy something to eat in her favourite tteobokki stall and then go home to sleep a lot as she had spent last few days on minimal amount of rest. She really wanted to put her head on her soft pillow, wrap herself in the blanket and just sleep for thousands of hours. In her brain it sounded like promise of heaven. Speaking of heaven - she glanced at the sky when she felt the first drop of water on her cheek. The sky was already dark and it seemed like it could be a really nice storm. And Haneul just couldn't go home during the storm. There wasn't a good storm since last autumn and she deserved some nice lightnings in the air. She hurried to the lawn and sat down on the grass, waiting for real rain to begin.
Howon dismissed his last class for today. He was heading back to Busan first thing next morning and he still needed to pack his baggage. He should hurry, but instead of taking a bus, he decided to walk through park. It was rather stupid move, considering the fact that sky was full of heavy clouds, but who says that Howon was the bright guy? He didn't think it could rain - and it started pouring the minute he entered the park. Luckily, there was a shelter nearby and he hid there. Of course, before he got there, his hoodie was soaking wet. He didn't want to get sick when he could at least change his clothes (bless sports bags and carrying additional clothes in them). Not thinking too much, he took off his hoodie. His t-shirt raised along with the jumper, revealing his toned muscles.
Accidentally, Haneul chose the same shelter to finally hid herself. She had wet hair, wet dress, wet legs and wet shoes. There were lots of thunders, but not a single lightning and she was pretty disappointed. What was the point of storm if there was no lightnings? Or maybe she shouldn't be disappointed, because she saw something actually better than bolts. Okay, she stared at him and that was probably rude, but she couldn't care less. It was him who took off his hoodie in a public space, not her fault that accidentally she was there to look at it. And for sure it wasn't her fault that she whistled quite loudly. She quickly covered and bowed to him. She needed to apologize to him, it was inappropriate to behave like that.
That whistle was... weird. Howon looked around and he saw a girl who immidately bowed to him and looked like she was trying to apologize to him from afar. He found it funny; he saw different reactions from girls, but she was the first one to whistle. It astonished him, but it flattered him as well, he was only a man, he had to take it as a compliement. He smiled to her at showed her to hide under the shelter, she looked miserable with wet... well, everything.
Haneul was surprised that he took it so lightly for a few seconds. She hid under the roof and bowed to him once again, apologizing for being so tacky. He said he didn't mind and she wasn't the one to care about such things anyway. They haven't really talked - she was still feeling a little guilty and he was awkward to begin with. Then the sudden lightning somewhere close and Haneul jumped in shock. He steadied her when she faltered, and she thanked him. They started talking, just to occupy themselves. He mentioned being dancer (her only thought was 'it explains everything') and she talked about English lit. But mostly they talked about their favourite tteobokki stall. And then the rain stopped and he smiled at her and said 'See you' and they went in two different directions, thinking about the other one only a bit.

the search
Haneul couldn't forget the guy. How could she forget the man who almost stripped in front of her? It was impossible. She wanted to find him, she even did some research about dance schools in Seoul, but in the end she thought it was too much. She didn't want to be a stalker. Okay, technically it wasn't stalking as she didn't even know his name, but still. The first lighting when she met him, if they were destined to meet again, they would definitely. She strongly believed it. And no, it wasn't her fault that Taehyungie decided to go to dance school, not at all...

the ending Surprise me! *u*

the end

comments okay, hello Vale! I'm sorry it took me so long ;; and it's rather rushed, but it's my first app written in english, so it was rather hard. but i think i managed? i want to say that i'm super happy about applying to your applyfic. ha, i'm super happy that you decided to write it! i'm keeping my fingers crossed also for others applicants *u*

suggestions + scene requests
—  Haneul asking Taehyung to describe all dance teachers. He goes a bit crazy with that and well... XD
— When they meet, maybe Howon may try to teach her dance? At the beginning she's clumsy, but he can lead her and it may turn out to be rather sparkling scene ^^
— Maybe some showing up at the same spots in different times? And definitely eating tteobokki together. I believe in you *u*
