⟪ ELABORATION ⟫

haeli has no qualms of being a wallpaper, a stand alone or being ignored. honestly, whenever there are activities around her she would prefer to be at the back of the rooms and watching her peers judgmentally. yes, haeli is the creep you see in school staring at people with her usual tranquil gaze. although she knows that judging a book by its cover is bad but she finds it fun to do so. even so, by judging them, she also notices the positive side of people and rather quickly than others. she is quite swift to spot on predicaments around her, often noticing small things others don't. it seems to be stemmed ever since she was a kid. she used to notice small thing for compliments and now it became a habit.

haeli, the philosopher, would help her friends in need with her unoriginal and basic words of wisdom which she got from the internet. and so if there is no wi-fi, she would probably pats them in the head awkwardly. she usually would be the first one to be there for them and help them whenever they needs it. she may not be the 'best' friend someone could have, but she really appreciate very their existance and care for her friends in her own way. it is the amount of effort she used that her friends acknowledge is what they love most about haeli.

regardless the rest, haeli absolutely hates to be tangled with anything. call it responsibilities or romantic relationships, she will try to avoid them at best by simply being nonchalant about it. possibly why she is also quite notorious as being an insolent by her acquaintances. instead of getting irritated, she laughs at them. her mother always mention that haeli's best integrity is her perseverance. she always say that everything she does is because she wants to and not because of other people's wishes. she knows what she wants and she will do it and will master it, namely parkour (freerunning). after 4 years of experience, she had multiple bruises and scars on her body mainly on her knees and elbows from failing but she'd rather call it scratches of honor. after all, she is one of the best freerunner in town.

haeli has a macabre sense of humor, usually saying things about people being hit by a bus or got squished by a sumo wrestler. “go run yourself into a bus.” she has been known to take interest in the dark, and imagining something that usually would frighten other people such as being captured by witches and being made into human soup while in hot tubs. haeli's friends are not usually bothered by her comments or behavior, as it is her nature. haeli is one of the person who hold passionate opinions because she does not like people who are wishy-washy and can’t make up their minds about anything. she is vocal about her opinions on others regardless of status or age. and is often brutally honest when criticizing others, especially her friends. she makes it clear when she is irritated or dislikes someone.

⟪ BACKGROUND ⟫

being a senior executive in a well established bank makes go haeli’s father spend time with his family very scarcely. although, his attribution is quite adamant, haeli thoroughly idolizes her father ever since she was a toddler. she thinks her father has achieved the greatest achievement in his life and career as she can have anything she wants leave it expensive or rare but only when she stay silent, obey and behave perfectly. everybody knows, her father is particularly emphatic over her and haeli was more or less a spoiled child. her mother is a librarian and so, she likes to read and talk less, in general. still, she loves her only daughter very much. go haeli loves both of her parents and acknowledge that they are good providers. therefore, they are quite busy with their own careers. that leaves haeli being alone most of the time. growing up in that situation, she becomes a self-resilient person.

it was then as well, she started to experience sleep paralysis and she gets it quite often lately. it was a hell of scary illusions. she could see, hear and feel things that wasn’t real. she can't stop it unless she doesn't sleep or sleep only when she’s extremely exhausted. and so, she started to wander around and spends her time aimlessly loitering the city every evening to make herself tired. its only a matter of time that she found and became a member parkour team when she was thirteen. she spent her time mostly training, she became attached with it. it might be because her teammates treat her at par. either way, it helped her. her sleeping schedule normalized and she had her beauty sleep peacefully.

when she was 15, they moved to seoul as her dad’s working location changed after being promoted. it was hard for her, leaving her friends and memories back there. in fact, trying to fit in her new school has taken a toll on herself because she was suddenly exposed to a new and strange social and cultural environment. her mother didn’t find a job after moving because her dad is able to provide for all of them accordingly. thus, she can’t go out to wear herself out or even have a little bit of fun. though her mother is usually calm, she is also can be utterly overprotective. haeli is only allowed to go out once a fortnightly. haeli ultimately became a natural recluse. what’s the point of having friend if she can’t even hangout with them.

eventually, her sleep paralysis came back. to have it again and to know that she can't do anything to avoid it stresses her out. she become hot-tempered and turned rebellious. she doesn't care anymore about the curfew her mother had set. she goes out in the evening and at night, do whatever she wants. freerunning, goes to game arcade or even just eat in the seven eleven. she does what she can't do when she was locked in her own house. in her school, she was known to take obssession in triumphing over any enemines or rivals she may find. ultimately being notorious as the 'bully'. it makes her more angry that the students calls her the bully. she hates that students exaggerate in everything they do. she never hit anybody or anyone. most of her fights are mouth fights and mouth fights are not enough to be considered as 'bullying'. then, she took an initiative. she calms herself by meditating and somehow it helps with her sleep paralysis as well. she then meditates whenever she had the time, in the morning, at school, in her room and before sleeping. even so, she still goes out at night. her mother doesn't bother that much anymore since she finally understands that haeli is now not a kid and know that she never went to those unwanted places at night.

⟪ LIFESTYLE ⟫

haeli mother finally found a job in a restaurant now that she knew she doesn't have to be home when there's no one to take care of. haeli's father is rarely home and haeli herself always hang out with her friends or just walking around and judge people in the city. every morning though, they would have a small family bonding time before all of them go make themselves busy with their own lives. her father gives her a small amount of money every week and haeli occasionally spend them buying foods and snacks for herself and sometimes for her friends. and every weekend she would save some money to buy some hair dyes to change her hair streaks to different colors. going to school is probably one of the hardest thing to do every week after homeworks. not that she would finish it on time but let's say she is still concerns about her own gpa. she sure don't want to be stuck with her parents after graduating. but there are times when she loves to go to school because that's the only place she can feel powerful. she loves how others are scared of her.

haeli prefers to parkour at night than in the afternoon, it's cooler at night and she won't have to whine about how sunburns irritates her so bad. her parkouring skills is getting worse since she don't have anybody to tell her what she did wrong and how to do it better but she is more than grateful for still being able to do it.

in the woods, she doesn't do much except keeping everyone save from harm and danger and she didn't volunteer for that. (the responsible) give her that job saying that 'you're the most athletic here, i mean, look at your body. i know you excercise or something to get those abs.' haeli knows that (the responsible) have a black belt in taekwondo which is much more convenient when it comes to fighting but she says that she has other thing to take care of. well, it's true, she's the naggy mom after all so the least haeli could do is to shut up and do what she gotta do.

“we actually started off as enemies. she was one of my fighting victims back when i was a sour queen. I admit that I almost lose to her but we stopped fighting when a group of stupid middle-aged men told us to ‘stay at home and clean the house’. we soon discovered that we have a lot of in common which includes despising people with ‘ladies can’t do herculean tasks’ dogma. (the charade) and i rarely talks but those silent moments are never the awkward ones. possibly because we have a lot of things that we can relate and literally mind-read each other (body language). I don’t know, we just simply like each other's presence. it was matter of time that she knows my sleep problem. my weakness is exposed to her and now I’m stuck with her bcs we sealed out friendship by (the charades) telling her own weakness so we usually threaten each other to expose it playfully (sorta) if we don’t do we ask to do so. but somehow, we just managed to be friends because they say ‘opposite attracts’.”

“i remember the first time we made an eye contact. it was a funny experience once I recall it. I was eating in the cafeteria that time and she was walking with a… person, a younger sister I guess (the quiet). so I supposed I stared too long at that little girl,  at how she walks so near behind her and how they never bumped on each other even once despite of how close they are cus once I moved my eyes, I saw (the responsible) smiling very sweetly but the way her eyes looked at me was just… she gave me shivers. I think she was telling me to stop staring. it took me a while to decipher that but I got the message. but if I ignore the way her eyes look at me, she really do look so pretty with it. it was so genuine that I can recognize her in the corridor just by looking at her smile.” [still doesn’t know that the so-called younger sister was the quiet. scene request please.]

“first thing first, how can she get a new boyfriend that fast? seriously? okay fine, I know she has the face but she must have a potion or something. I need to get one from her if she does have it. I’m still a girl okay. i… sometimes… want to be loved by some guy too. BUT! (the flirt) never fail to fascinate me in her own way. she could be clingy. and whiny. and love to touch me which I hate a lot. but it’s not too bad bcs (the responsible) was there when I almost burst out bcs she keeps touched my head specifically my hair. so yeah. she’s a socialable person to begin with. so we girls usually get news from her about what’s happening around the school. yeah, she’s beneficial at some point.”

“we’re not entirely close but I could say that we have a lot of in common. not really I guess but the more I think of it, I could be like her at some point in my life if I never tried to speak my mind. we’re not the same and we live different environment so I don’t blame her for being like this. but I wish she knows and perhaps notices? that deep in my heart, I really want to protect her like a little sister I never had and for her to be able to speak her mind. she can’t be kissing everyone’s asses, right? yeah, thought so. I know she’s not comfortable with me, I mean, I might be not smart like her but I can see how she flinches around me, but she needs to know that I’m not dangerous or whatsoever. I’m not a bully like they say I was. I’m just a girl with extra muscles. so yeah. stop flinching please!”

“she is a nice girl. greeting me every morning though there was one time I ignored her. I thought she was saying hi to (the whoever was beside me), sorry dude. she is the type of girl to tell everything that happened to her life like we’ve been friends for years. it gets kinda annoying at times, I mean, nobody wants to know what’s your great-grandmother of your father’s last words. but y’know, it’s nice to know that at least someone is concern about my well-being. it’s not illegal for a monk to have a conversation with someone, right? but she did drew a line when she tried to ‘get to know’ more about my love life. no girl. some things are better to leave it a secret. not that I have any though so. but it’s not entirely her fault to be naturally curious.”

[ok just to clear up the confusions, I’m just gonna explain only some of their relationships with the boys bcs I think only these guys would probably want to talk to her despite her dingy and gray aura. so I guess, if the others were to talk to her maybe it would consist of one word responses and awkward air.]

“this jungkook guy. well, first thing first, if I could ever be close to him, I would like to punch him in the face for being too good-looking and for not actually act like his face. I don’t even know how and when did I fell for him. I thought it would be only a two weeks infatuation but I think it has been longer than that. I guess it’s all about the small things. like, does anyone notices his weird but cute humor. and and the way he single-handedly collect woods and make a fire. what a great dad he would be to my chi- wait what? no! oh god haeli no! he took all the credits of creating the fire. I taught him how to start a fire. he’s hell too cocky to even start with. damn it jungkook, why are you putting me in this difficult situation.”

“possibly, the most normal human being in this forest after me. yeah, he’s chill. a nice person to hang out with. he can’t talk so… or I just never there when he talks. oh well, as long as he won’t bother me he’s alright. but I keep getting complains from the girls how he never works. lazy much? yeah me too but we’re in the forest we gotta move to survive. maybe I’ll talk to him to y’know, be a man and help around. who am I kidding? I’m not gonna ruin my relationship with the only normal guy here. whatever I’ll just make it up as I go.” [she’s a feminist so for her to be told ‘be like a lady’ is an insult. so she won’t say like that to whoever.]

“he’s… I don’t know. awkward? yeah. I hate awkward people. the reason I barely talk to anybody is bcs I hate the awkward feelings. bcs I am awkward. it’s annoying but this guy, his level of awkward-ness is just weird. it amuses me instead. I can’t describe but our conversation is probably like ‘hey, nice… hair?’ and I’m just sitting there laughing, telling him to go away. good guy, he helps pretty much everything around here. and he cooks too. probably a better father than jungkook but I just couldn’t feel the chemistry. okay, I’m becoming to sound like (the flirt). guys! the world is going to end!”

⟪ THE INTERVIEW ⟫

⟪ CHOSEN PLOTLINE ⟫ the rebel

⟪ WHY ARE YOU JOINING THIS OUTING? ⟫

“um? because we’re going to the beach?” haeli said matter-of-factly. the interviewer looked at her with confusion. “right?” haeli asked. the poor interviewer felt threaten by her stare and nodded quickly as if her life was going to end if she said no. haeli tightens her ponytail. “(the charades) invited me so I said yes cus it’s been a while since I ever tasted the salt water like in jeju and to even go on a vacation.” she shrugged and tilt her head slightly to the right.

⟪ HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN THESE GIRLS? ⟫

“you really think I would remember? dude, I can barely recall what shampoo I’m using.” haeli rolls her eyes. but it’s all started when (the charades) keeps eating with her in the cafeteria after the fight and so she eventually brings along the other girls and now she is stuck with them. ”I don’t even know why I’m still associating with these weirdos.” she shakes her head and shrugs.

⟪ DO YOU HAVE CERTAIN DISLIKE ON ANY OF THE GIRLS? IF YES, WHY? ⟫

““yes. I hate all of them.” she said with all seriousness. “with no reasons.” she leans back against her chair and crosses her arms. “but I like them all too. with no reasons.” she said. what she was trying to say was that everyone has their own good and bad sides so she if she say she hate them because of their negative traits then she must like them too because of their good traits. it’s a nice balance don’t you think.

⟪ WHO ARE YOU CLOSEST TO? HOW DID YOU TWO GET CLOSE? ⟫

“I’m not close to anybody. next question.” haeli will never answer such question. but deep inside her heart she knew that (the charades) is the closest one to her. it’s funny how haeli notices her habits, what she hates and what she likes and not what’s her parent’s favourite food.

⟪ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN SURVIVE IN THE WOODS? ⟫

 “I don’t know. I can survive in the city. at night.” she said confidently. “so I think I can in the woods.” how hard could it be. if she were lost then she have to find food, water and shelter, then she’s perfectly fine. she just have to follow what most people in the movies do. though sometimes the plots could be ridiculous but the film industry must have at least do some research, right? hopefully.

⟪ IF ONE NIGHT YOU'RE TORN TO SPEND TIME BETWEEN YOUR FRIENDS AND (LOVE INTEREST) WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE? ⟫

 “friends. who in the world would want to be in a relationship with an insensitive, judgmental little piece of like me?” she said nonchalantly. but it’s a lie if she never had a thought of having a boyfriend. she might be thick-skinned but she’s a teenage girl. she does want to spend a little time with her love interest. she has spent most of her time with her friends so spending a little time with her love interest is not illegal, no?

⟪ HOW THEY MET ⟫

 the girls are still fighting. it was better this morning, they were just giving sarcastic remarks but now they are crossing the line. they have to stop shouting unless they want to be eaten by those scary beast or the least eaten by haeli herself. haeli walks away from the scene calmly, taking a deep breath and letting it go with her anger. to be honest, cannibalism is not a ridiculous matter anymore after two years in the woods. she know that at some point, if they never get out of this woods, she’s really going to eat one of them just to get proper meat. she is sick of fruits and all those icky green stuff.

haeli was not sure where to go at first. it was night. there are not other safe place other than their camp but she was too full with her thoughts that she absent-mindedly walk to nowhere at all. well, until she stopped before a beautiful, glorious lake. she was flabbergasted! the lake water was never a new thing to her, she washes her laundries and take baths here but the view of it at night was so different. in a good way. if only she still has her phone charged, she would capture a lot of pictures and selfies despite her lack of selfie experience. then an idea came to her mind, if she cannot take a picture of it then she will have to at least be in the view. haeli took of her purple converse. she slowly dipped her toe into the water. it was cold. And she knew that the old haeli will bath in it and die because of hypothermia.

just as she was sitting on the bank, taking in the view, the back of something appeared out of the surface of water not “holy !” she gasped loudly, getting her legs out of the water. it was a ghost. haeli saw a ghost for the first time in her life! her heartbeat stopped for a second. it was the lake ghost. dear god! they actually exist. haeli took her converse, ready to run away.

“a girl?” it said. haeli paused for a little while. she was going to die, the ghost noticed her. she was going to be haunted for the rest of her life. she started to run.

“no! wait! stop!” but haeli did not stop. she sure learned now to not to stop and to not look back after two years of living in the woods. but it catches fast behind her and soon that thing grabbed her arms. haeli screamed loudly, scared for her life and hoping for the other girls to hear her. she tried to get the arm off her but the ghost put its other arm around her waist and covers .

“stop shouting! the animals gonna hear you,” a male voice. it’s a male ghost. wasn’t male ghost stronger? oh man. haeli tried to remember her self-defense… no, she never been into one. haeli closed her eyes as tight as she could and elbowed the ghost. the ghost produced a small 'oof' how was that even possible, she did not care at all.the ghost let go of her and almost immediately haeli grabbed a stick on the ground. still, closing her eyes, she gets to a self defense pose, or so she thought it was. no. she most certainly did not want to take a look at its hideous face.

“no! don’t hit me. i meant no harm!” she imagined the ghost raising its arms on the air like how criminals do when they are caught by the police. the voice sounded sincere but she won’t let her guard down. that would be the last thing she would do.

“i’m jungkook. my friends and i are lost in this woods. are you lost too?” he asked haeli opens her eyes to a good-looking guy, still holding the so-called self defense pose. “what?”

⟪ RELATIONSHIP ⟫

“jungkook. (the responsible) told you to wash the dishes,” haeli said without looking so she will not fall harder for him. But he did not answer. Oh dude no. he ain’t gonna ignore me like that.

She walks to him from the opposite side of the tree and found him sleeping. ‘he looks so cute god damn it!’ Haeli squatted infront of him, gently holding out her hands to his face. with her evil smile on she harshly flicked his forehead. no he definitely not gonna let me fall for that. Jungkook woke up with an angry face on. “what the hell was that for!?” 

haeli’s love story with jungkook is completely contradicting to those disney princesses’ ones. the first time haeli met jungkook is the first time her legs ever give in because of a boy. she knows from that jungkook is probably the very first crush haeli ever had. it maybe because she has not seen one for a while but even before they got lost, haeli never give two hoots about boys or even to be in love. those weird feeling is what makes her keep denying her undying love feelings towards jungkook. she always a two-weeks-infatuation but now it’s been longer than that. the more the feelings she had for him, the harder she denies them. she would be rude to him. hit him relentlessly or just simply bully him.

⟪ HOW WILL THEY END UP ⟫

“stop doing that! darn it!” haeli said, furrowing her eyebrows.

“do what?! i’m sure you’re the one who needs to stop all of this.” jungkook throws his hands in the air, frustrated. what did he do to deserve her bad attitude. she is not like that with the others. in fact, she barely even interact with them… (some flashbacks of their moments)

“you stupid idiot!” haeli walks to him, grabs the collar of his shirt. she kisses him. hard. haeli have been wanting to do that for a long time. but now she regrets doing it. things are going to be more awkward, she just make everyone’s life harder. she just created a fine line between her first love and herself. what had she done. she should have just treat him the same as others. her kiss would be much more meaningful than this.

blushing, haeli slowly back up. “holy . i- i- i’m sorry,” and runs away as fast she could.

wide-eyed jungkook calls to her “no! wait! stop!” it was all like a déjà vu to jungkook. seeing her running away and shouting at her to stop running. it’s all up to him now. will he chase her back or just let the time heals her.

⟪ TRIVIA ⟫

one: haeli will always find the time to talk to him at least once a day

two: the girls, seeing the weird behavior of haeli each time jungkook appears, knows that haeli likes him but they keep it a secret. they know haeli will deny it.

three: the girls call them ‘monkey’. it’s the combination of haeli’s (monk) and jungkook’s (monkey) nicknames.

four: haeli gets jealous for no reason if one of the girls were alone with him.
