Why Your Favorite Story is Not Recommended

This might get wordy at parts so hopefully this thing ends up somewhat coherent.

The main reason stories are not recommended is because they are ist. Although the main characters are boys (and there is a glaring lack of girls in these stories), ism still manages to seep its way into stories through heteronormativity. Heteronormativty is basically treating non-heteroual relationships like heteroual ones. For example, when people want permanent tops and bottoms in their ships. In real life, gay guys switch. There are no permanent positions. The role of the one who penetrates and the one who is penetrated is a heteroual thing (and even in hetero relationships it's not always so clean cut).

The bottoms are typically coded as a stereotypical representation of a female. They are passive, obedient, small, delicate, pretty, thin and a They fit the ist demands of what a female should be. They are the secretaries, nurses, daycare teachers, etc. of the universe. They are in stereotypical female jobs. They also do not have power in the story. They are never the one with lots of money and/or a prestigious job. They are never treated like equals. Their character development typically revolves around pleasing/pursuing a man who treats them like .

The bottom is the epitome of what a ist society wants from a female.

The tops are stereotypical masculinity. They are aggressive, demanding, tall, muscular, possessive and ually promiscuous. They hold prestigious jobs and get whatever they want. They treat their partners in the story like objects that belong to them. Honestly, it is not uncommon for the top to be a perfect example of what an abusive partner looks like.

What I'm trying to say is that the top is coded as male and the bottom is coded as female. The top's characterization is that of a ist male. The ist male is then ist towards the bottom (the coded female). Hopefully this makes sense.

If a story follows this ist, heteronormative dynamic then I will not recommend it.

I know some of you will be like this is mpreg! Pregnancy is something for heteroual relationships! The idea of mpreg does have its heteronormative influences, but I've always seen the genre as a way to explore the fluidity of and gender. The grounds of mpreg allows for the writer to play with what and gender are, but a lot of people just take the easy route and do some ist bull.

The world is not a binary. There are more genders than male and female. And there are more es than male and female. There are people out there with different es and gender identities then the ones society chooses to present and enforce. Mpreg is a genre where people could easily explore these dynamics and differences if they wanted to. I would love to see a story where someone create their own genders and es for their au. I would also like to see someone write a story with an inter or transgender character.

TL;DR --> Even if your favorite story doesn't romanticize ual assault nor abusive relationships, it still won't be recommended if it follows the ist gender roles.  This is the reason for why most stories aren't recommended. However, somtimes if a story is well-written and the traditional tone isn't overwhelming (the relationship isn't unhealthy) then I will recommend the story.

Little things that will make me unsubscribe/never recommend a story:

  • boys don't cry
  • just boys being boys
  • excessive gender coding of infant
  • etc. (i will add more when they come to mind)
