About that ikon vs. TVXQ/Shinhwa's fandom color issue

It's my very first blogpost in AFF. I usually don't express opinions on fan wars issues, but this one is really too much. It's making me really sad that a community in which I've been for more than 5 years now is having an issue about... colors. Yes, colors.

True thing, when I joined the Kpop community I found it super-cool that each group had their own fandom name; lightstick and color. Like, woah! An extension to the perfection of the groups; they had thought about EVERYTHING! Even a freaking fandom color!

Yeah this is cool, when there are only 15 to 20 groups in the industry.

Just in 2015, over 55 kpop groups debuted - at least 10 of them may have a fanbase good enough to deserve a fandom name and color. So, from 1998 up to 2015, do you know how many active kpop groups there are in the industry? At least 100. Do you imagine the mess if everyone decided to have their own fandom color?

Here we have two fandoms claiming that iKon's lightstick is using their fandoms colors (namely Orange and red), therefore they ask iKon to change it right away.

It is true that we can distinguish about 10 million colors - which are shades/mixes of the well-known red/orange/yellow/green/cyan/blue/violet; and all of these colors are used for the fandoms already:

Red - TVXQ
Orange- Shinhwa
Yellow- BoA BigBang FTISLAND T-Ara
Green- SS501
Cyan- SHINee
Blue - Suju
Violet - 4Minute

However, everything lays on a single word that is very very important: shade.

As much as I could understand the facts that yes TVXQ and Shinhwa are 11-18 years old, that yes they've been through a lot (so did their fans), and that yes they still exist and they are the sunbaes they need to be respected...

It is still selfish to claim a color with all of its shades.

May I remind you that SNSD shares their fandom color with aPink?
May I remind you that BEAST and Exo and even 2PM basically have the same fandom color?
May I remind you that CNBLUE also uses Blue for their fandom?
May I remind you that BigBang, T-ara and FTISLAND share the same fandom color?

Never this kind of detail has been an issue.

So yes, they are tons and tons of shades you can make, but if you have to give up on one of the primary colors, it's unfair. You can describe an object and call it pomegranate, blood thick or even pearl red, the main color is the same: it's RED. Same goes for blue, yellow etc.

So dear Cassies and SHCJ. You guys are supposed to be mature fans and therefore act in a mature way. Since you've known how many hardships there are in the kpop industry you should protect your sunbaes, show exemplarity. This is not what I'm seeing.
What I'm seeing is a bunch of crazy fans that are scared af that a new baby boygroup will kill TVXQ and Shinhwa''s popularity. Hello, we're talking about the two kpop legends that are still alive! Are you really being insecure right now? Come on, guys! If the fans are not confident then nobody else would be.

A color should not be the only thing that bonds a fandom to their group. You're talking about TVXQ and iKon being on the same stage someday.... unless it's Dream concert this won't ever happen, and by the way I've noticed many time that fandom having the same "shade" of color as another one just switch their lightsticks off so the group will know where their fans are.

So yes, I get it that it may be bothersome to point, but people, you need to be considerate - you are not alone anymore and you cannot keep a color and all of it's shades for yourselves. While it is possible to have every kind of pigmentation on paper/computer etc; when it comes to light, our eyes cannot distinguish that much color shades. So stop fighting over this and enjoy the music. There are bigger problems out there.

Peace.

I agree with you about not claiming a color, that's true, one cannot and should not. But I also think most of it stems from Ikonics bashing TVXQ and outright telling Cassies that TVXQ is dead. I know Cassies who didn't want in on the whole color thing but couldn't keep quiet when their idols suddenly were bashed by a rookie fandom. Ikonics are just as immature as Cassies/SHCJ - they just show it differently.
I think it has blown out of proportions. But I can see why they feel hurt with their fandom color no longer being their identity. As much as they've gone through, the colors were all they had in the beginning, I believe light sticks was introduced with Big Bang. So this means they've gotten closer to their fandom color than newer fandoms may have, it's completely understandable to be hurt over this.
I do hope the war ends quickly because it has become something it shouldn't. That said, I still understand Cassies and SHCJ. (And I'm neither a Cassie, a SHCJ or an ikonic)

lol everyone needs to chill about this . Colors? I'm srry but tbh there aren't that many colors....I think the ppl who are upset about this are the ppl who have bitter feelings towards iKon.
