Fanfic Author Tag - Concealed Identity [Stolen from -Tigress-]

Point of this blog is to pick a story you've written and answer the questions below.

Of course it's Concealed Identity for me.

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
~ I was inspiried when I saw "Warrior Baek Dong Soo" four years ago thus "Concealed Identity" was created. But through my years of education and experiences with the latest historical drama I've been inspired to write differently yet kind of similarily to the rest of that I've seen. Let's say I'm inspiried by Korean Historical Dramas to write this story.

2: What scene did you first put down?
~ Oh gosh....The first scene I had in the first version of this story was the running and chasing scene of the five main characters in the first part. But after through many reviews, thoughts, and revision the whole scene was taken out for the better of the story. At first the story was going to be written with the usage of creating ANIME characters, thus the running and chasing scene through town was set as the comedy aspect of it. However, that wasn't going to work with the actors I've chosen for the story.

3: What's your favorite line of narration?
I have a lot but the opening was probably my strongest narration xD

On a sunless morning the trends of events that would wake civil citizens began. The crowing of roosters, blacksmiths already at work, and the neighing of horses all aided in waking up sleeping neighbors. Soon men, women, and children set out to occupy the spacious dirt roads and attend to their daily schedules. When the sun finally rose behind the mountain’s horizon and the skies under Jongno-Gu, Seoul became clearer and brighter along with the sound of returned chirping birds, it marked the first day of spring.

With the doubling and tripling of citizens traveling on foot and in wagons, chattering between adults, children playing amongst children, and the striding of domestic animals too begin to increase in size and sound. However, the center of attention in Jongno-Gu was not affected. That is of which King Heo Pyeonghwa’s palace, Changdeokgung, known to be the “Palace of Prospering Virtue” for its harmonization with nature. Each building and room within the palace walls, which stood ten feet off the ground, was often changed to be hugged by the state of cozy valleys. But most of all, it was known for the king's back garden. The only garden that can be found to obtain beautiful and various pavilion, ponds, plants, and trees.

As usual, with no clues as to what his people are doing, the King has summoned his subjects for a gathering for the sake of a brighter future for his heir, twenty five years of age Crown Prince, Heo Minho.

4: What's your favorite line of dialogue?
I've created tons of dialogue for the characters but those are yet to be posted and added. However, so far my favorite of what's been published is when Queen Yoomi is playing a Korean instrument and in her company is her only child and his maid.

“Lady Ji, can you guess why I play the komungo even when his majesty enjoyed the sound of a kayagum more?”

“Forgive me your highness.” The lady said, simply a shortcut to excuse her short assumption of the Queen’s question.

The young Queen smiled with satisfaction. It would be too boring if anyone can read her, thus she liked it when people, especially commoners, are oblivious to her interests. “The wood used to make this instrument is refer to as the Royal Princess Tree. A royal princess is always seen as powerless in her own palace until she becomes queen, however, the sound of this instrument is powerful and gainsay the belief of an unimportant princess. A royal princess can be as strong as the sound that this instrument sound, yet procure her beauty.” Yoomi said before looking over to the maid and her child, she saw how the child smiled at her, impressed by her knowledge. “Junseung,” the queen called softly to the boy, “what do you think? One day you will marry a princess and may treat her like a rare pottery. But would you believe that she may fall and not break, entirely?”

I also liked the 'conversation' between Yeong and his father.

His father walked in with his hands clasped behind him, and when he was close enough to Yeong his eyes traced down to see what the youth has been up to. “The strength of mankind?” The elder raised an eyebrow. “May I?” The man held out one of his palm. Yeong could guess that his father wanted to see his work up close and so was asking for permission, thus the boy took hold of the paper with both hands and stood up to present it. When the older took it, he read the writings silently to himself, before detaching his eyes from the piece. “What made you choose a scholar as the strongest among mankind, Yeong?” His father’s question was one filled with generous curiosity.

Yeong smiled a little before answering. “A scholar must hold a brush, a lighter object compared to any other weapon. The brush’s purpose is to imprint boundless characters onto sheets, that will result in becoming great teachings or useful regulations.” His father leaked a growing smile, hence giving him more courage to continue, “Father, you’ve always said that a scholar is no different from a warrior who wields a sword, a weapon that requires much strength to control each swing. It is true, that and swings made by brushes and weapons may leave unwanted prints and scars. But in reality, both are seen differently.”

“How so?” The eldest posed a question to challenge the youth’s mind.

“The strongest of mankind must be a scholar. Because he is a man who makes the rules with erudition and great intelligence. A man who carries a sword is no less than a threat if he tries to make any laws by his blade. That is why you’ve always taught me, father, that the reason why the King isn’t always at war with a sword is because it won’t solve everything. That’s why, his majesty holds meetings among scholars. Right, father?”

Yeong thought the older’s growing smile carried a hint of proudness in it, but when the older spoke, his smile and words did not match up. “Not every man who carries a sword is a threat my son.” The man took another long look at Yeong’s writing. “A sword also resembles preservation, conservation, and a sanctuary. Haven’t I always told you? It is not the position that makes a man bad or strong. Remember this, to fully understand the truth behind a person’s thoughts and actions, you must look at the holder. Not the brush or sword in hand. Because often, some are masters at both. But most importantly, some do not reveal at first what they are capable of, so you must read them correctly, my son.”

Yeong stood in silence as his father handed him the sword, a weapon he didn’t want to touch. “Dear father, I would rather not—”

“Take it my son.” Baekhyun said while holding out a sword to Yeong. “If you start now, you will get used to it. I do not want you to experience what I had to go through. I was taught the ways of the sword at a late age. I can barely wield a sword properly now.” Baekhyun explained. Despite not wanting to see his father hold onto the sword, Yeong reached for it with a heavy heart. “Swing it at me, my son.” Baekhyun said before Yeong could grab the sword, the moment the sword handle was in Yeong’s hand, the older removed his hand right after. Shockingly the blade fell toward the earth first, pulling Yeong’s hand with it. The boy’s eyes grew and looked up to his father.

The older smiled. “It’s heavy isn’t it?”

“W-well….Yes….” Yeong answered, surprised by the weight of the weapon.

“You will get used to it soon my son, but I want you to always keep it in mind, the moment of how heavy the sword first felt. Because when you swing that weight at another person’s body, it’s going to hurt them. That’s the burden you must carry, just as I have always told you about that of a brush.”

Yeong heaved a heavy exhalation as he looked down and toward the sword. The sword was indeed very heavy for such an item that appeared light. The way of the sword was much more difficult than what Yeong had assume.

5: What part was hardest to write?
The part after Wootae and Daniel head off into the forest. I wasn't sure what will happen to them afterwards. Finall figured it out when I wrote their scene as a 'short story' for my English class (LOL)

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
I put much more effort into Concealed Identity and I tried to keep its dictions wide and expanded. I'm hoping to turn Concealed Identity into a novel one day. However, I do not have the same idea for my other more popular stories. Concealed Identity itself is a lot more different than the rest of my other work as it focuses on all the characters. No side characters are really left out without a background. Every one of them is important. All 60+ of them.

7: Where did the title come from?
~ Myself. I personally thought of a much different story line thus "Concealed Identity" fit in with all the six characters. But with all the changes, the title so far works for one of the main character. Either way I've set aside an alternative title for it, "Dangerous Bonds".

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
~ Yes a lot, as I said some scenes were taken from my knowledge and education. So as someone who've studied two anthropology classes, I've incorporated some into the story. My teachers, existed quotes, and much more inspire my story's plot and the characters as well.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
~ There were way too many. At first the story was planned to be written in a Anime/Manga style since I loved to draw Anime. But then it became a OCs, images of idols and actors I weren't familiar with, then finally the actors now. But the story itself has been changed multiple ways over the course of four years.

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
~ I chose the main actors based off of their roles in their original drama. Since some of the characteristics of my characters fitted their in the drama and vice versa. I could have chosen idols but I just couldn't picture it better than the actors themselves.

11: What do you like best about this fic?
~  The differences of each main character coming together as one. Sometimes I get carried away and believe they do exist and that they are going through the troubles they're having. I loved how much differently I could make each character and that readers were able to distinguish them, themselves. I also loved the different aspect of each character, how they grew up, how they are raised to believe a certain thing, and how their knowledge collids with each other. I liked the idea of bringing them together as friends and write about how they maintain that friendship as they're all so different.

12: What do you like least about this fic?
~ I'm not very satsified with the lead female characters. They haven't appeared yet but they're not all different from one another. That's my problem as I have too many characters, but I am trying to make all of their lives different. It's just difficult to write the word 'orphan' over and over again xD One thing I don't very like is the complication aspect of the story. It's a very complicated story to work with since each character are linked together one way or another, and it's hard as some are friends with some enemies and such so everything is a mess xD It's also hard to remember their ages, especially the side characters. So I'd always have to remind myself that I should write according to their ages.

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
The music doesn't affect my writing majority of the time. I listen to music whatever I do (even when I do dishes at work!). But my story has been inspired by certain music, especially slow instrumentals. And at times I do listen to songs and just shut my eyes, trying to envision any scene with the help of the song or sound. It helps since some scenes were created through the mood of the song/music.

14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
Probably relationships? I want people to see that not every actions taken are always intended by the other person. That the way he was raised, the experiences he must have had, and the mood of his day must have forced him to take an action he wasn't prepare to. In the story some characters can control themselves from regretful actions, despite everything, but others let their emotions get the best of them. But if their mood was different that day, they probably would have acted differently.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
That I do a fine job with creating different characters...? And that I too can write and teach myself some things I never really realized or ponder on about before? xD

Ah yes. And it can be seen in the way that you write them all! I understand about struggling with your female leads, I struggle anytime I write female leads, but I am sure that you will be able to pull it off. You've done a fantastic job overall.
